Title: Swivel Wheel or trailer behind 5th wheel Post by: stacktester on July 14, 2009, 10:41:53 PM Was wondering if anybody has ever double towed a trailer behind their 5th wheel. I was looking into the swivelwheels because supposedly if you bolt it to the frame it's a weight distribution platform. My camper is a toy hauler but has a small garage that has a side load door. If anybody double tows let me know if you've had any LEO trouble.

I was almost satisfied with the answer and then I type in swivelwheel just for the heck of it. This is the definition. There's still a gray area. Is this so they can be the judge if it's a trailer or not? I was already planning on bolting it to my frame and bumper so yes permanent fits my need.
Florida statute limits the overall length of a 'motor home' to 45 feet exclusive of bumpers and safety devices. F.S. 316.515 (15) Florida statute limits the length of a 'private motor coach' to 50 feet, exclusive of safety devices. 316.515 (9) In combination, the vehicles' overall length cannot exceed 65 feet and only one trailer can be towed. 316.515(3) Florida statute limits the length of a' travel trailer' to no more than 40 feet. 320.01 (1)(b)1 Swivel wheel type attachment are permissible provided the devices are permanently attached and do not meet the definition of a trailer. Maximum lengths for the type of vehicle being operated must be considered prior to operating a vehicle with a swivel wheel device attached. If the swivel wheel device is attached in a trailer configuration, Florida statutes allow only one trailer to be towed. 316.515(3[/font]) Title: Re: Swivel Wheel or trailer behind 5th wheel Post by: Mudneck on July 15, 2009, 08:19:30 PM http://www.cruiserlift.com/swivelwheel.html
I have thought about making one but the key is to find somone who will sell the wheels by themselves. That is where the value is. I canbuild one of those platforms in a few hours. The wheel is the secret. If you find out where I will order 6-12 of them too.I have had no luck. He sells the axles I guess you could call it. You still have to go to Northern Tools to get the hubs and tires. There's a place here locally called Fat Cat trailers I'm gonna check with because I try to stay away from Chinese junk and I just can't trust my stuff riding on chinese steel that is most likely defective from the get go. I talked to the guy on the phone and I think he sends the plans with the wheel assembly. It's all 2" steel tubing from what I gather. I'm looking at doing the double wheel one for my golf cart and quads. Now that I told you where to get this stuff you'll just build me one while you're at it right? lol Title: Re: Swivel Wheel or trailer behind 5th wheel Post by: Mudneck on July 16, 2009, 08:42:19 AM Its an easy build with that assembly. I have an account set up with the Expediter, wholesale trailer parts. Unfortunately mostly all there stuff as well as Northern is from China ???
I would still rather have the single wheel. I really dont like the two wheel set up.That set up is still going to look like a double trailer to a cop. I think the single wheel will confuse them into thinking its just an extension of the trailer instead of a double tow rig. I'll build one for my toy hauler when I find the single swilvel & put my Rhino on it to test it out ::) Thanks Title: Re: Swivel Wheel or trailer behind 5th wheel Post by: stacktester on July 16, 2009, 08:55:09 AM If I'm not mistaken swivelwheel will sell only the wheel assembly. They have a brake on it now as well to keep it from spinning. I got a friend who lives in Houston who is selling a swivel and thought about getting it from him. Just a long way to drive.
