Title: friend cant get water out of his oil
Post by: mikeE36 on July 14, 2009, 05:46:09 PM
my friend sunk his quad at the last mud event and notice he got water in the oil and even after emptying it and putting new oil in it it still looks like sludge. What can he do to remove all the water. Its an air cooled quad so its not some cooling system problem.

Change oil and filter again. Then, a third time, if necessary.

Diesel works good as a first flush.. But then Fill with 2/3 oil and 1/3 Marvel mystery oil and run for 10 minutes then drain and refill with fresh oil and a new filter.

diesel fuel is not the answer.

you may need to flush as much as 10 courts or so through it. fill with cheapest oil you can find, run it or ride it for a moment, dump it and fill with more cheep oil and so on. when it comes out clean agian, throw a new filter in and good oil. this is the proper procedure.

are you guys serious?, theres no big secret to it guys, you have got to flush it with allot of cheep oil. filling it with any substance other then oil sounds retarded.

Diesel works twice as quick, flushes it and cleans it out. 10 quarts of oil what a waste.  :L

Many oil and filter changes, what kinda bike is it? Find a aftermarket oil filter fram makes a filter for atvs.I have got water in my oil
before (left the oil cap loose OOPPPS) I changed the oil apx 7 TIMES!!!!!! Much cheaper han a motor.Use store brand oil for this.
Good luck.

Diesel fuel procedure is:

Drain oil
Fill crankcase with diesel
Shake bike around to mix up diesel
Drain
Take off oil filter...drain
Fill with cheap oil and OLD filter
Run until its hot
Drain
Change filter
Dont forget drain plug
Put in new oil

If you do just regular oil...it will take you at least 5 times which is a little under 15quarts for my bike...no way I'm wasting that much oil...

I've done it both ways and diesel is way better for a flush.  I've done the marvel mystery oil, which I highly reccomend, but diesel is just as good.

It's 2.59gal for diesel, go get yourself some ;)

This is coming from the guy that for some reason has to fix everyones sunk bikes...it is quick and easy with diesel.

no, thats not what i meant. if im servicing a bike and the oil comes out milky, weather its the diff or the motor, ill normally have to flush it. we always have a case of the cheapest oil possible around for flushing.

if you get paid by the hour do that, if you get flat rate and want to get the job done...use diesel.  I use it in the diffs too, brutes are known for leaking water in diffs so for me it's pretty frequently I do that
