I am down.

I could have taken a ton more pics but someone on the last ride barely stopped long enough for me to catch my breath! ;D ;D

Maybe my riding techniques need some work.  :'(

you just have to be faster ;D. i have one of those tank top bags. it makes it faster to get to the camera. i get your point wilburz.
as far as the starting point, i'd like to start somewhere besides scrub or rodman (less whoops) but we have some time to decide.

JJ

It would be nice to ride that first weekend of August or the end of July since school will be starting on the tenth of August.
Just might be alot easier for folks that have kids to go before the hectic school schedule gets cranked up.  I know it would be better for me.

4.5 hours Gery. Rodman and delancy is more for 4x4's. For sport quads you are better off going to big scrub. Regardless, even Rodman and delancy has better riding than anything down here.

Is this gonna be a family style ride or more of the marathon type? Got kids to plan for.

Title: Re: ocala ride in august
Post by: jjamesbar on June 17, 2005, 05:16:47 PM
if say up to 20 vehicles are down for the ride i'd recomend starting near idamans cabin and riding to blue sink for a swim (im guessing around 25 miles 1-way) and return. we could also take in that big pit on 588 as well. if more than 20 vehicles are down then maybe we should start at rodman and ride to eurika dam (around 30 miles 1-way) and back. rodman can handle more trucks and trailers than anywhere but around scrub. i'll go with the flow, i just want to ride.

once we decide where we will start we'll go from there. we always like to ride new trails. thanks for the offer.
i'd personally like some smooth trails with high banked turns on some open long leaf pine stands.  ;D

How about start out of Eurika Damm aera?

   Jim,

thats one option. we'll have to see how many are down for the ride. theres not alot of parking. the main road in has soft soulders. there is a flat area on the south side of the road that should handle a few trucks.

good point. you just might have picked the day.

jw,
as far as the pace goes it depends on how many show up. small groups tend to ride faster than large groups. my quad is a very slow ute, but on good trails i hold the throttle down as far as i can. we wait up for riders when the trail splits or turns off in another direction. it would be a good thing if the slower riders could ride atleast 20mph on the good trails. much slower than that will hold up the pack.

I liked that trail that ran from Eureka south, I beleive, through the woods along side of that river. There were some houses on the left, up on the hill, and a couple of boaters on the right. That trail has alot of nice shade and is a little technical. Do you know what I am talking about. That would be a good trail to include in the ride. Nice scenary too!

I'd be down if I'm not very broke by then,,,,buying a house and all might be a bit of a drain on the wallet.

I still wanna see eureka pits.

its one of my favorites. the 1st place where the people where camping was called piney island landing we swim there sometimes, the place with the houses up on the bluff is called sunday bluff. that trail makes you feel like your deep in the forest, and you are. i havent rode through there since before the hurricanes last year. there sure where lots of trees down across the trail.

I'd be more than happy to ride but if I go I lose my deposit on my hotel.  In addition I won't get my CE credits and I'll lose my license to practice.  So if you are willing to pay for my cost of living and student loans in excess of a NICE home mortgage then I'm all in!

matt,

since your place is only a few miles from eurika dam you may know this. how many trucks could you park at eurika? as many times as ive rode through there i never really paid much attention to it. im thinking of starting this ride from there.

I'm up for it.

I want to meet at least one person from this site. I'm starting to think you're all a bunch of BOTS.

When, where, and what kind of riding. :o

I ride a sport 450R so if it's not one of those long rides where I need to carry gas, I'm down for it.

Also, if its up at Big Scrub, are you guys planning on camping? Could be a good reason for a barbeque..bring some grills maybe and some frosty refreshments for after the ride.

Jeff - So far Aug 6th sounds goodell.....so what kind of ride is this going to be ?
Ride till you reach the stars.............

im thinking we start with some riding in the pit getting some pics of chillin and others flyin high over some jumps then take a short approx 55 mile loop trail ride. kind of like the ride we did from ida's cabin. i'll post the route soon. the ride from ida's was 77 miles bypassing the trail to his cabin will cut off 22 miles. now when we get back and we feel like it we'll head out again. we shouldnt need a fuel drop. if some are concerned about fuel i can drop some on the way down along hwy 19.
this still depends on the parking situation at eurika. matt will update that next week.

if anyone has other thoughts on the trail ride speak up.

jeff

Jeff, I think the parking will be fine. There is quite a bit of room on the south side of the pavement near the "off limits" area. There is also room at the bottom of that road where the trail leads to under the bridge. Also a lot of times there are people parked under that bridge.

Jeff, I think the parking will be fine. There is quite a bit of room on the south side of the pavement near the "off limits" area. There is also room at the bottom of that road where the trail leads to under the bridge. Also a lot of times there are people parked under that bridge.

Is this hard packed or pavement, is there sugar sand for parking?.....we will have to decide which mode to trailer...open or enclosed, and the dually is heavy so we need a place to park so we won't get bogged in..lol

I would like to join in if there is still room. I have a place in Gainesville so I will go up Friday and then drive down Saturday am. After the ride depending on how tired I am I'll just drive back to Lauderdale or go back to G-ville for the night. Can anyone give a good Mapquest of the meeting place for us new to the riding area and/or meeting place?

there is still room, see the eurika dam group ride I thread. use mapquest to find the city of salt springs. follow hwy 316 west until you see 160th street. the pit is 1/2 mile north of 316 on the west side of the road.
