Title: Re: Possible New Riding Area in S FL Post by: gery350 on February 27, 2009, 01:17:15 PM yeah. right next to the squares, or all those other"considered" areas.
(above said sarcastically) i wont hold my breath. Title: Re: Possible New Riding Area in S FL Post by: Johnny Rotten on February 27, 2009, 03:09:25 PM I don't think it's the area next to the squares... Go to google earth and look at the area on US41 right on the Collier / Dade line... There's a 13,000 ft. runway there. This is the area they are talking about.
The two counties are considering whether to turn an old airport into an off-road vehicle park. The property is mostly in Collier County and was originally a 13,000-foot runway. Title: Re: Possible New Riding Area in S FL Post by: Anoriginal on February 27, 2009, 09:33:21 PM It's the old Jetport past the Oasis on 41 headed toward the L28.
Given the fact it's surrounded by federal property, I doubt it's going to happen. Title: Re: Possible New Riding Area in S FL Post by: foreman1 on February 28, 2009, 12:04:31 PM I'd hate to see the Jet Port turned into a atv park.
I'm sure the local indian clan just west of the entrance will love all the traffic this project will bring. There has to be a better location somewhere. The old Jet port is the last stand with regards to how the glades used to be w/o the strong arm of the park service . Both counties need to look else where. Title: Re: Possible New Riding Area in S FL Post by: zman03 on March 01, 2009, 12:28:06 PM Miami-Dade county is going to have this place done by 2012, this site was one of the ones considered in their feasability study. I have been involved with the process for along time now (4 years) Whats fishy to me is that there is nowhere private that a person can open and run as a business cause the agencies involved (water management,EPA,Dept. of environmental resource management,County parks and rec.,county commissioners)always seem to cry out the words compatible use??? yet if they choose to open a place like TNT or MIAMI Mx all of the sudden its ok SOUNDS LIKE A SCAM!!!!!!!!!! (MONOPOLY) I challenge anyone to try to start a place and you will see the curruption in county government!!!!!!!!! This is such a load of CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!! unless you grease the pockets of the people involved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's one area that should be left alone. Nothing good will come of making it an ORV park. Already that entire area is subject to too much scrutiny relative to ORV's of any kind. The Everglades and ORVs are becoming a volatile mix. Title: Re: Possible New Riding Area in S FL Post by: Mars on March 02, 2009, 11:18:25 AM Don't look so deep.
It's a useless piece of land now. Too wet to develop, not close enough to the casino. Contaminated enough that the leaf lickers won’t care what is done with it. This would be real sweet. Title: Re: Possible New Riding Area in S FL Post by: miker on March 09, 2009, 07:36:07 AM Put me down for $20 that nothing will happen.
Oh, and another $20 that nothing will happen with the 3500 acres near Seminole MX. Oh, and another $20 that nothing will happen with the 3500 acres near Seminole MX. Unfortunately, I agree. I will add that I expect they are welding a bunch of new SFWMD yellow gates to throw in various places all around town... How is the humps these days? |
