Title: Designing a speaker box... Post by: FoxHondaRider on February 22, 2009, 09:55:29 PM It will be for a 12" Kicker CVR sub. I am building separate boxes for each. It will be a sealed box. These are my main concern questions, if anyone knows some info that would be great, thanks.
-What is the recommended volume? -Is it okay to have many angles in the box or will it not work as good if it were flat edges? -Can the subwoofers face eachother or will the force that each create distort one another? -Is it better to have the speakers facing the rear seats or the rear end of the car? Title: Re: Designing a speaker box... Post by: Mars on February 23, 2009, 08:12:39 AM There are several books out on speaker design. Radio shack even has one. It just depends how technical you want to get and how much room you have to work with.

I already have a box but it would have sit infront of the race stut and would take up so much more space. I want to separate them 1 on each side how trunks have a pocket where the rear lights are I figured I would utilize that space. I am having trouble making them flow with the trunk and have atleast 1 cubic foot of volume. I wish I had 10's rather than 12's. Title: Re: Designing a speaker box... Ported boxes need about twice the space and they have a harder hit but loose sound quality. Sealed boxes have tighter bass and the best sound quality and require less space. I wouldnt fold the back seats down. I dont do the whole pounding bass and rattling thing this is for the full spectrum of sound that the other speakers cannot hit that low. Title: Re: Designing a speaker box... Post by: novadave on February 24, 2009, 02:35:08 PM Kicker cvr12 need 1 cu. ft. min and 4.6 cu. ft. max for each sub. I always put them in 1.5 each. In my experience they seem to like sealed boxes better then ported but they will work in a ported the box is just going to be bigger. Kicker speakers aren't really known for being for sound quality. If you fire them backwards it will be louder, but in return is gunna make the rear of your car rattle more. The shape of the box shouldn't make much of a difference just as long as you get the air spce correct. As far as the woofers facing each other just don't get them to close give them a couple inches for movement. You are always going to get some cancellation when the speakers aren't mounted on the same plain , but it is only at a certain frequecy.
Title: Re: Designing a speaker box... Post by: FoxHondaRider on February 24, 2009, 10:13:05 PM I moved to a wedge shaped box that would fit 1 speaker behind the stut facing the rear end of the car angles up some. Then I said screw that if I ever need to put something in the back and need the seats folded down to put it I cant because the speaker box will be in the way. Now i'm just going to slap together some boxes and all it a day. They will be in the trunk corners facing the front of the seats. If I dont like the way it sounds or I think its too much i'll change the location or just use 1 sub. After all its not a show car its for function. If I wanted it a show car I would get custom boxes and everything but I just want a good sounding stereo and parts that are more fuction than show. After all any sub has to be better than none right?
