Title: New Laws Goin Into Effect.(Traffic Laws)
Post by: Bigscrb15 on June 12, 2005, 10:22:22 PM
This was on the news tonight. These are STATE laws so it affects all of Florida.

1. Stereo that a cop can hear from 25feet away = $70 ticket
2. You can get a seatbelt violation now with no toher violation(they used to only be able to give you a ticket for seatbelts if they pulled you for something else and you didnt have it on.)
3. Penalties for running redlights up from $60 and 3points to $125 and  4 points
4. New law mandates turn signals to switch lanes.

I would like to see them enforce that in South Florida. Using a turn signal forfeits your right to change lanes down here. And red lights mean "It used to be green so hurry and go."

Most of the new laws are good ones, if the police would only enforce them. The noise law in not new just strickter, have you ever heard of someone being stoped for it? Running a red light has alwas been aginest the law, very few stopped, turn signel to change lanes another one. If they would just enforce the traffic laws already on the books would not need new laws.

Also, down south here... as of July 1, the diamond lane, HOV lane, hours are changing, and it will be a NON-SMOKING lane. Anyone caught smoking while using this lane is subject to a $50 ticket!!

I've recently heard, not too sure how accurate and dependable of a source, that you can now go to school to have points reduced/removed as many times as you want-as long as it is not within 12 month period.  Anybody heard of this?

I'm glad they are going to start enforcing the turn signals.... I just wish they would have passed that law that would make slow people get OUT OF THE FAST LANE!! I hate being stuck behind two racing turtles... who somehow do not see the LINE of cars behind them... it is so annoying.

For the record, I actually got a ticket for having the music cranked up to loud in the truck. And that was what.. 1990? Back then I think it was just a county law in Broward. I still think that I only got it because I was crankin' up the Hank Jr in a snobby part of town......... ;D

I remember what Bocephus sounded and felt like on 2 Rockford Pro Series 18". It was worth the hearing loss :)

I agree with two, three, and four. But the 25ft away noise law is ridiculous. It is legal to drive if you are deaf so what if you have a hearing problem and are required to have the volume turned up? You would have to get a document from a doctor stating you have a hearing disability and go to court and then after you waste time and money the ticket would be thrown out of court.

CABLEGUY1, I for one am in very strong favor of the loud sterp 25 ft. law. I have what is called tenanitus which is a hearing provlem where you hear a rigging in  the ears all the time. whenever a car pulls up close to me with the loud thump--thump I have to plug my ears. They will weak me up at night when they pass my house. It makes me want to pull my shotgun out and ask them if theyu can hear this. It is very bad for some. Out on the open road is fine but have some consideration when in a housing aera or in bumper to bumper traffic.

 just my .02,
              Jim,

Well I knew it would happen eventually.... CableGuy and I disagree on something other than the fact that the red DS is better than the yellow. I hope they enforce the 25 foot rule for stereos. I like music and exercise the right to listen to what ever I want and hope everyone else does the same. But when I am at a red light and can't hear my kids talk or my radio because some idiot  thought it a good idea to invest a few grand in a stereo for his $400 car it drives me nuts. I shouldn't have to hear someone else's music even if it's the same kind I listen to. How can you hear sirens or a kid scream if you have the bass/music so loud you can't hear the person next to you? Not only is it a common decency thing, it's a safety issue.

Pure LMFAO...

Im Miami if you activate a turn signal your either a
1. turist
2. nuts
3. letting everyone know that you must have paid extra to have them put on your car
4. that they are working.

I think your friend just met a good cop then, lol. I may be wrong, but to my knowledge the bill to make it a law was turned down a couple weeks ago by the state. They said they felt that it would encourage speeding.... I guess they like road rage then, lol.

LOL....yea RIGHT!  People in Florida hardly ever use their turn signals at intersections and now they have to use them to change lanes????  I am still waiting for the police to enforce to current turn signal laws!

New law #1 -
I don't mind loud music....I married a drummer LOL....But when the dishes rattle in the cabinets that's a bit much.
Monday I was driven by the beach on the way home and a $50 car pulled up behind me with his stereo blasting and my whole Jeep shook  :o  Don't understand how they can stand it?  I used to sit next to a PA and do sound for bands but that is too much.

As far a turn signals go .....there will be alot of them left on b/c no one seems to know how to turn them off   :(

I thought it was the law to use turn signals [to switch lanes].  The law I would like to see passed is to do away with prison parole because of overcrowding.  Seems simple to me, violate the rights of a felon by leaving them in prison or violate the rights of every law-abiding citizen by letting them out.

Allright Cain we only slightly disagree. I also find the base pumping, license plate rattling, seat vibrating crap annoying and agree that it should be mandated. That stuff you can hear from the end of your block or fifty yards away. I don't think some people realize how close 25 ft actually is. For example, if a bicycle cop is writing a parking ticket and some doctor in his convertable BMW is listening to classical music three spaces over and the cop can barely hear it should he get a ticket? How about a recently divorced early fifties man going through a mid life crisis sitting first in line at a red light on his fully loaded Honda Goldwing with his radio playing a Jimmy Buffet song with a motorcycle cop being fourth in line but can hear music from the Goldwing whether it be ever so slightly. Should he get a ticket? Think about it, my neighbor has an above ground pool that is 24 foot round. From one side of the pool to the other justifies a ticket? You can hear someone sneeze three lanes over if there window is down. I think it should be governed by a precise Db level not just if they can hear it. My younger brother as well as myself have menieres disease. For those of you that don't know what it is it's a imbalance of the inner ear that affects your hearing as well as your equalibrium and during flare ups it causes EXTREME dizzyness, vertigo, ringing, and throwing up. It leaves you with a certain degree of hearing loss. Mine isn't that bad and happens maybe once every couple years however my brother is almost completely deaf in his left ear and is slowly losing hearing in his right. In his case he has to turn up the radio slightly more than the average person. If you can hear it from three cars away should he get a ticket? I know I beat this to deaf "get it " but I'm just trying to make a point. Now I do think if your DS is lipstick red you should get a ticket just for it being an eyesore. Yellow with flames is alot more soothing to the eye. It also looks tougher. LOL.

I agree that 25 feet might be a little close. as you mentioned with windows open most radios will be heard. That was probably decided upon to make sure there is no claim of bias as to the music being targeted even though there is one main genre that is the problem. It's also probably a buffer zone. I don't see that law being enforced heavily. They probably said 25 feet so that if they actually do enforce it when they can hear someone's bass thumping a block away there isn't to much tobe said other than pay the fine. If everyone had some common sense of decency it wouldn't have been an issue in the first place. Any parent that allows their kids to have a radio capable of such extreme levels of volume need to be punished as well. Loud music is one thing but hearing it inside your house from a block away is another.
And as far as your big banana goes, what is yellow associated with? that's right fear or cowardace. they color coded that one so everyone knows it's the slow one for those that are faint of heart and don't want to go fast. The red on the other hand isassociated with being fast or hot. So hot your big banana can't touch it !  ;D

I thought it was the law to use turn signals [to switch lanes].

Nope.  Turn signals only had to be used when turning left or right.  Using them when changing lanes is just common courtesy which you don't see much of down here.  As far as someone mentioning the law about slow drivers in the left lane.  There is something in the books that says the left lane is considered the passing lane.  Also there are signs posted on most highways that say "slower traffic keep right".  If people obeyed this there would be a hell of alot less road rage and accidents out there.

You know I just tried to do a quick search of the new Florida Traffic Laws and can't find anything.  The State website nor DMV have anything about it.  Typical.  I guess they expect you to read the whole book again.  If anyone finds it please post it because I would like to know if these things are true.  Thanks...
