Alarm Bells Ring- Key Obama Job Goes to Animal Rights Supporter
Harvard Law Professor to Head Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs

The new head of a federal office with review authority over all agency rules has an extensive record supporting animal rights and even calling for the banning of hunting. This raises the possibility of pro- hunting, fishing, and trapping rules being deep sixed before they ever get a chance to move forward.

The new head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) will be law professor Cass Sunstein. Picked by President Obama from his perch at Harvard, Sunstein’s long time positions on animal rights immediately ring alarm bells for sportsmen.

Sunstein has been an unyielding advocate for the animal rights movement. He has written extensively on the subject and shown a strong dislike towards hunting, going so far as to say that “we might ban hunting altogether, at least if it’s sole purpose is human recreation.” He also has suggested that it makes sense to begin “allowing suits on behalf of animals.” As the editor of a well known 2004 book on animal rights, Animal Rights: Current Debates and New Directions; he compiled legal arguments made by numerous leaders of the movement. You can read some of Sunstein’s thoughts on animal rights by Clicking Here.

The concern over Sunstein’s views stems from the authority he will have as the head of the OIRA. While few people have ever heard of it, the OIRA has significant power over regulations coming from federal agencies.

A part of the federal budget office, the OIRA has been given extensive authority to perform data based cost/benefit analyses of all new federal regulations. Though not allowed to issue opinions on the merits of any proposed regulations, the OIRA can block rules if it considers the supporting data not strong.

It requires little imagination to envision an ardent opponent of hunting finding numerous technical reasons to put the kibosh on pro-hunting regulations for years to come.

The USSA will continue monitoring these developments.

Unfortunately, these types of idiots are already becoming the norm with the chief idiot now in office.

This is another example of why hunters, boaters, fishermen, etc. should be giving greater support to the ATV community. There's safety in numbers. Instead of banning ATVers in WMAs, etc. just restrict ATVing to non-hunting seasons and rotate areas like golf courses do with their tee boxes/greens(they move them around to allow regrowth of the area).

This stuff irritates me to no end. As much as it makes me feel sick saying this, I hope he does a good job. Not because I like him or think he is the chosen one. Lord knows I didn't vote for him. But as much as I hate it he is the president of MY COUNTRY, and I want what is best for it. Whether he is in office for 2 days or 2 terms, we will just have to roll up our sleeves and fight them tooth and nail when they try to push anti gun BS on us. I really wish things would have gone different on election day, but we have to work with what we got. If he can say or do something to help turn the economy around and make OUR NATION stronger, more power to him. I don't expect it, but if it helps OUR COUNTRY, then good. I still don't have to like him or what he is, or go along with the sheeple and believe everything that spews out of his mouth.

This is in NO way meant to be a pro Obama post, but a pro America post.

Something funny, Spellcheck does not even reconize Obama, it tries to change it too.

The entire FactCheck post is well worth a read. Here is its summary of Obama's actual position.

"Regarding a Constitutional right to guns, Obama says:
... Barack Obama believes the Second Amendment creates an individual right, and he respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms. He will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns.

On the issue of urban policy, Obama says he favors "commonsense measures" to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and children, and that he would bring back the expired "assault weapon" ban and make it permanent:"
==============================================================
Any time a politician uses the phase "commonsense measures" with regards to the second amendment   its a load a horse sh!t as far as I'm concerned. This is not someone who looking for your best interest as a gun owner , simple. :K

High lighted in bold above is the reason why everybody's buyin' black rifles and ammo like the end is near.

If you read further down the article to the comments from others, you'll see accusations that the FactCheck folks may or may not have their rebuttal facts correct. So, WTF really knows, yet?

Here's some comment.

First, lets talk about Mr. Rose and the source of his comments. It was posted on the huffington post web page. If anyone doesn't know, the Huffington Post is a left-wing publication that prides itself on bashing anything related to the republican party, conservatism and their respective supporters.

Concerning Mr. Rose, he's about as bleeding heart as they come. I'm quite familiar with his BLOGS (which is all the link above is...his blog, ie. opinion). He hates Bush, Conservatives, the NRA and anything to do with the republican party. So, it's no wonder he'd post such a thing.

Second, lets talk about Obama's actual stance on firearms based not on campaign rhetoric but, actual positions taken. Not once has Obama come to the defense of firearms, the industry, their owners or the sportsmen/women of America. He's taken a stance along side the likes of Pelosi, Reid and Frank, all of whom are (for lack of a better term) anti-gun zealots.

If you like to do ANYTHING in the outdoors other than walk on a designated path and take pictures, you should be deeply concerned and involved over Obama. Concerned mind you, not hysterical. He and his administration are in no way friends of ours when it comes to our chosen outdoor activities.
