It simulates use. It drains and recharges the battery. You can leave it hooked up and on 24/7. I know for the 400ex a good swap is for the Hyabusa battery its a Yuasa same size just more cranking amps and stuff. My stock Yuasa batter is 5 years old and its finally getting to its end it will hold a charge for about a day then its got juice just enough to crank the quad over slowly and the engine running it recharges and is fine.
