Title: Store bought Snorkels Post by: JOE3504x4 on October 28, 2008, 08:58:29 PM Does anyone have any opinions of or experience with store bought snorkels like the ones from bayou snorkels? I ride an 05 Suzuki king Quad 700 EFI and the CVT slips like crazy when i do any kind of water riding... Im not gonna do the intake just yet cuz it sits pretty high as it is... If anyone can help me out on this Id appreciate it...

Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: jrpro130 on October 30, 2008, 07:08:58 PM I did an 06 king quad...IMo they are very hard to snorkel. I've done quite a few snorkels including helping 4x4matt...the kindquad is hard to get RIGHT. Sure you can whip it together and it might be alright...but look over on some of the other forums and see how others did it.
It was just shy of 110 dollars to do it on the king quad I did. That was everything including the airbox. Without the airbox it would be like 50. So if you do the airbox, IMo spend the money and do the kit. I'm sure you could get some help and get her done. Try submarinesnorkels.com or do a search on yahoo for "kingquad 700 snorkel kit" and there are a few good ones. Monster, submarine, and such are good. I personally dont' use bayou. Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: crom A zone on October 30, 2008, 09:17:55 PM No problem Joe, Glad i could help you out. ;D
Ricky dont worry it was just the tranny and yes i double checked every seal, and yes i made it look profesinal. I evan muser stuff so things would line up. I must say king quad was fairly simple to do the tranny. Joe if it leaks any let me no i will stop the leaks if it does leak. Haha yea, try the airbox...lol. Theres a few good ways to do it over on highlifter...those guys used PVC all the way for the cvt intake/exh, and flex hose on airbox. The airbox is worse than my grizzly...it's HARD to get right if you haven't done it. Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: jrpro130 on November 02, 2008, 03:58:37 PM Well I tested the snorkel today and i got some work to do, I got leaks from every junction and the actual case is leaking... does anybody have any suggestions on what to seal the CVT with, id imagine it would have to be something i can remove fairly easily, it has a stock rubber gasket on it right now i wonder if i can just put some thick grease on it I dont know, its kinda something i wanna do right the first time cuz it is a pain to get the cover off... Sounds like matt did it lol. His leaked for a while until he finally sat down one day and did it right, keyword RIGHT. Just tighten everything up and don't rig anything up. The cvt will be sealed with black rvt gasket maker. It's not too bad to get the cover off, just gotta do it once and right :) The KQ i did leaked too, they are a PITA... Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: JOE3504x4 on November 02, 2008, 04:11:53 PM so did you ever get the KQ to not leak? I dont think Matt did a bad job i just think we were rushed
Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: jrpro130 on November 02, 2008, 04:43:51 PM so did you ever get the KQ to not leak? I dont think Matt did a bad job i just think we were rushed yes, it took just some tweaking and designing. I tested everything before it went on the bike. I covered the CVT with black RTV and the airbox with the same stuff. the only leak it had was from the airbox, and it was just an area I didn't put enough silicon before. He told me 2hrs to do it, thats rushing it! It took me about 2 full days of work (between letting it dry and other mods), plus I did the radiator at the same time. Just check all your connections, silicon where you need it, re-do where you need it. What did you use for everything? Flex hose and rubber connectors? If you used PVC to connect the spa hose to the pvc then your always goign to have a leak, you need spa hose -> rubber connector -> pvc and put silicon paste between all connections. Thats how my bike is and the only leak I ever had was a hole in the tube. Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: jrpro130 on November 02, 2008, 04:52:47 PM (http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a185/jrpro130/Snorkel%20and%20Rad/DSCF3827.jpg)
see how I have pvc (note the EXTRA silicon) to rubber connection, to spa hose. thats so it gets a good clamp and seat on the spa hose Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: JOE3504x4 on November 02, 2008, 09:20:22 PM looks great.... I picked up a couple tubes of this stuff called GOOP at Advanced and re sealed all the fittings inside and out, I think its pretty water tight. Im gonna run a hose up the snorkels and see if i have any more leaks in a couple of days.... The only big job is gonna be taking the casing off and sealing it. How big of a bead do i need to make around the seal?
Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: jrpro130 on November 02, 2008, 09:28:11 PM make a pretty thin bead around the cvt. Just make sure it's not too much because the excess will hang out and when you clean the bike or peel the rtv silicon it will take some of the stuff from the inside when you pull the outside. A little bit goes a long way
So how are your snorkels done? spa hose w/ pvc and rubber connectors? Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: JOE3504x4 on November 02, 2008, 09:34:00 PM Theres really no pvc anywhere but the actual snorkels. Everything is spa hose to rubber connectors. The only place i might put pvc is coming right out of the exhaust side. If this goop stuff doesnt make a good enough seal i might need a slight bend to take some pressure off the spa hose. Hopefully this works cuz im kinda sick of this project already :banghead.gif

Hopefully this works cuz im kinda sick of this project already :banghead.gif so all your connections are like mine? spa hose -> rubber -> pvc? NO SPA HOSE SHOULD CONNECT DIRECTLY TO PVC...it will leak. I don't understand why your having problems... I did PVC all the way out of the cvt intake on the KQ. Then for the exhaust I did about 12" of PVC coming out of the trans, then flex hose all the way up to PVC in the front. I tried to use a little spa hose as possible. If you take pics I'll tell you where your problems are Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: JOE3504x4 on November 03, 2008, 05:31:31 PM ok pics coming tomorrow
Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: crom A zone on November 03, 2008, 05:53:31 PM his problems coming coming from same place mine was. The cover for tranny put silcone around that and it dont leak and the rear of the tranny case. silcone in that and it wont leak. Yes ricky it is rubber to spa hose to pvc. once he seals up those 2 spots it will be 100% if i reacal correctly you did the snorkles on my bike and they leaked first time(as i letmy bike float away in holylands canle) and i went back through and when i was done with the tranny they do not leak till this day
Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: asmart82 on November 03, 2008, 06:05:25 PM If you didn't silicone the drain plug, I would highly recommend it. It took me about two months of head scratching before I figured that one out.

I did kevs 2 brutes, my bike, and the KQ and they are all leak free the first time except the KQ, but i figured it out now. you can't expect it to be leak free if you only spend 2hrs on it... i'm not saying you did a bad job, just don't understand why it's leaking. the cvt cover shouldn't be leaking that bad...if it leaks at all it's only a little bit since it's plastic against plastic, even w/o a gasket it won't leak much. did you guys check the drain plug, it comes out easy on the kq...jayson lost his 2x already just riding around just something to think about. Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: crom A zone on November 03, 2008, 06:38:56 PM i never looked at that i thought it was screw in like mine my bikes not riged its just not the way it should be but the beast still runs jus fine

Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: crom A zone on November 04, 2008, 08:42:52 AM looks like you got it all sealed. up silicone is easy to get off if u need to drain it. looks like the top ened up coming out good. good job joe finishing it up
Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: asmart82 on November 04, 2008, 08:54:14 AM if i silicone the drain plug how am i supposed to drain it if it does get some water in? You use the pliers that come with the tool pack, grab a hold of it and it pulls out pretty easy. I use the pliers to put it in and pull it out as my fingers don't fit up high enough to grab it. I also always carry extra silicone with me so if I do need to pull the plug, I can just resilicone it before putting it back on. RVT comes off pretty easy. Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: JOE3504x4 on November 04, 2008, 09:23:29 AM Right! ok Im thinkin ill try that last. once im sure everything is dried ill go ahead and pressure test the system before i put the bike back together. thats prolly gonna be wednesday night..
Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: jrpro130 on November 04, 2008, 06:54:14 PM Looks good but I can see where your problems are, right where it comes out of the CVT the stock boot where it connects to the other boot doesn't look sealed all the way. I put a 2.5" PVC there and sealed it all up with a NICE BIG home depot clamp. Thats the only way that i got it to not leak
Title: Re: Store bought Snorkels Post by: JOE3504x4 on November 04, 2008, 09:37:24 PM are you talking about the intake or the exhaust? I did put about 6lbs of silicone on both those connections cuz i was worried about them. those pics were taken before the silicone dried so it looks kinda sloppy. i figured id wait till everything dried up before i stated trimming
