Yes they do, but not to bad.Title: Re: Hot cams and Reliability? Post by: TRX450R_Racer on October 14, 2008, 09:26:26 AM All a performance cam does it hold the valves open longer. No adverse affects.
Title: Re: Hot cams and Reliability? Post by: scrimmy on October 16, 2008, 09:02:36 PM on some dynos i have seen hotcams actually made the motor loose power in low and mid range and only picked up 1-2 hp in the very top of the rpm range. i had them in my yfz and hated them. they maybe different in the yz250f but my experience with them i would stay away from them IMO
Title: Re: Hot cams and Reliability? Post by: FoxHondaRider on October 16, 2008, 09:52:19 PM a bigger cam should be accompanied by a higher compression piston because you loose compression with a bigger cam. If you have both they work together and you can deffinately notice it. The only thing I have seen is my brothers hotcam put 2 valves through the piston 1 on each motor. idk what was up but obviously something like his timing chain was stretched for he had it advanced a tooth or something. If done correctly theres nothing to worry about you just have to adjust the valves a little more often.

Not true, the longer the valve is open the harder it is on the valve and springs. It's not that dramatic but does decrease some reliability, I wouldn't worry about it unless your running a high compression engine. |
