Title: Re: Has anybody ever talked or emailed BRC? Post by: Gato on October 01, 2008, 12:14:01 PM I had written to the BRC this is what I got back just to share with all and if I here from the others I will post it up also
Peter, Thanks for emailing. I've cc'd Jack Terrell and Russ Ehnes. Russ and Jack work for the National Off Highway Vehicle Conservation Council. Jack has been involved in Florida OHV issues for decades. I understand the predicament that Florida OHV users are in. Give my limited experience with Florida issues, I'm left to wonder if Florida OHV users wouldn't be well advised to organize politically. Here is why: The regulatory hurdles in Florida favor our adversaries. Legal action is rarely effective and, again, favor our adversaries. To secure riding areas in Florida, the assistance of local government(s) is often critical. Let me state outright that my experience in organizing OHV users as not been very good. BRC is not funded by the OHV manufacturers. We depend on memberships and donations from individual OHV users. Therefore, I can tell you from experience it is difficult to get them to join any OHV advocacy group. Having said that, BRC itself if proof positive that it can be done. I'm interested to hear Jack and Russ chime in on this. I may not have the necessary perspective to adequately say what is needed. And there may be one or more existing OHV groups in the Sunshine State that could build the political clout necessary to get some real movement on OHV issues. In any event, BRC stands ready to assist in any way we can. Thanks for emailing. I look forward to continued discussion on how to improve the outlook for OHV users in Florida. Post by: lswjth2 on October 01, 2008, 01:09:30 PM Gato, I have spoken with Greg over at BRC before. I had called asking for recommendation in filing a class action lawsuit against the state of Florida and SFWMD. Nice person to deal with, they did not seem very inclined to go this way, rather to become better organized and politically involved, obviously we already know about this. I did sign up and become a member and i copy Greg on all the e-mails and meetings, etc that i'm involved with. Here's his e-mail address if you want to add him to your mailing list....Rick
