Title: what do you think about this truck? Post by: kfx400rob on September 15, 2008, 08:00:28 AM friend is considering buying this truck.

Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: TRX450R_Racer on September 15, 2008, 08:35:25 AM Those truck chew up ball joints. The upper comes as a complete control arm with the ball joint. The lowers are sold separately. Tell him to make sure the are all tight. Maybe as part of the deal he can get them to install new ones, so he starts off fresh. They are also notorious for going through coils. It has the L motor which is a 5.4L non flex fuel. Overall I would say it's a decent truck.
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: kfx400rob on September 15, 2008, 08:40:41 AM he also thinks it will be "kindof fast" ?
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: bocephus300 on September 15, 2008, 08:43:57 AM i own one now and love it! a 2002 fx4 supercrew f 150. its lifted with 35 also. i can vouge for 450r racer as they get older just start replacing the coils.. there is 8 individual coils.
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: KAW3604x4 on September 15, 2008, 10:37:38 AM My wife has an 03 supercrew FX4 completely stock and she loves her truck until it's time to fill it up. :o
I like driving it as well. ;D Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: MudPuppy on September 15, 2008, 12:48:30 PM It looks a little old but still nice...
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: backwoods boy on September 15, 2008, 01:49:26 PM my buddy has a 4.6 on 35's and its decent 11 mpg city but he floors it at every light and it still beat my friends 4runner w/ the 3-0 v6 on 31's but ya i love that truck all lifted ford trucks are nice in my opinion though
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: 1FasterBlaster on September 15, 2008, 01:55:53 PM Nice truck. As long as your OK with paying for fuel. I would also prefer a 4 door. Later on you'll end up wishing you had more room. I would definately try to talk the price down if he won't do some preventive maintenance to it first.
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: apkkfx400 on September 16, 2008, 10:38:22 AM They sure did list all the possible options. Almost enough options to justify the price!!
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: Fox17 on September 16, 2008, 11:47:48 AM Nice truck. As long as your OK with paying for fuel. I would also prefer a 4 door. Later on you'll end up wishing you had more room. I would definately try to talk the price down if he won't do some preventive maintenance to it first. but then you go to a 5 foot bed. wtf is the point of having a truck then? if you need room, buy a SUV. the only way to get room and real bed is a F250. Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: 1FasterBlaster on September 16, 2008, 11:57:36 AM It depends on what purpose you need it for. As long as I can fit my quad in the back, I'm happy. I like having the room inside. I did have a 99 Tahoe and I would trailer my quad.

Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: Chevy1500z71 on September 16, 2008, 07:37:15 PM the only reason hes buying the truck is becasue he is stuck on the fact that it has 37s and after driving a ranger and every one making fun of him ove rit he thinks hes going to regain his man points back with the bigest truck, doesnt mater if the truck does anything well, as long as its big i guess is what he sees in the truck. overall i think it will be an ok truck, but for 11k (i know ill take crap for this) you can get 10x more truck from a chevy... i mean, 5.4 vs an ls based engine, if i even have to explain the difference you just dont get it...
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: backwoods boy on September 16, 2008, 10:15:28 PM an ls engine is a 5.7 right so unless he got a 98 or older i dont think any 5.7 where availible 99 and on but yea im not here to debate brands your right 11k is high for that truck in my opinion look around you can get a 3/4 ton diesel that will get better mpg performance and resale value for around that or a newer gasser i found an 04 nbs F150 on 37's w/ 47k miles for 8k on craigslist no it wasnt one of the spammers it was located in orlando but yea thats just an example of patience and a good deal it may still be availible it was only like a week or two ago

Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: Fox17 on September 16, 2008, 11:16:52 PM if he wants big, he needs a crew cab diesel with the 8 foot bed on 40s. now, thats big. that lil f150 in the link aint too impressive. im not a fan of any fords that arent a 250 or up.
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: cybercop106 on September 18, 2008, 01:14:15 AM I got my 2001 4x4 Lariat Supercab for $6500 this last Summer. I'm not particularly a Ford fan but it was the best price. It has Flowmasters and oversized tires, but doesn't have 37's on it...... then again my wife also doesn't need a ladder to get into it either.... ;)

Post by: jrpro130 on September 24, 2008, 04:24:34 PM I'd get a 4.0 ranger...but I'm kinda partial.
It's a little faster than the 3.0, but not much. It looks kinda beat... Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: GENERAL-Z on September 24, 2008, 05:55:38 PM rangers are pathetic least he has some torque(not much but more)
Title: Re: what do you think about this truck? Post by: Chevy1500z71 on September 24, 2008, 06:10:47 PM the ranger was a pretty pathetic truck, getting to 60mph on the highway takes all day, you can mash the gas to the floor and you wont move an inch back into the seat. its a good fuel saver truck(not even at only 16mpg that a new fullsize chevy can get), or cheap work truck, its just not the kind of truck he was after.
he got the truck of about 9 or 10 i think and got 4k for the ranger... i wouldn't have went for it, but hes happy, and its his truck, not mine... |
