Title: Homework and kids... Post by: cheropride on September 09, 2008, 06:25:49 PM Anyone w/kids, do you all have the same problem I've got... I can't believe the amount of homework my kid gets... He is only in 4th grade, and it is a trip... It's pretty bad when I have to do searches on the internet to help him w/his homework... Last week I had to look up stomata... I was like what the heck is a stomata... Not only is this a spelling word (which is pretty easy in comparison), but a vocabulary word... Good Lord, by next year I am going to have to hire someone just to help him w/his homework...
I tell you what, I did not have this much homework when I was kid.... He brings home a book, a 164 pages.... I am like, Anthony, that's awefully long for you to be reading for a book report. He's like no mama, this is a 3.6 book (which means a 3rd grade level), well okay I am done... wow... Title: Re: Homework and kids... Post by: Able on September 09, 2008, 06:43:31 PM Mine are all home schooled which is even harder. My 11 year old is doing the virtual school. She has to upload, scan, download, convert files, etc. She's now more computer proficient than most adults.

She has to upload, scan, download, convert files, etc. She's now more computer proficient than most adults. It's not hard for them to be better at computers then we are. They are raised with them not like us. Here is a little computer poem for us older people. A computer was something on TV From a science-fiction show of note A window was something you hated to clean And ram was the cousin of a goat Meg was the name of my girlfriend And gig was a job for the nights Now they all mean different things And that really mega bytes. An application was for employment A program was a TV show A cursor used profanity A keyboard was a piano. Memory was something that you lost with age A CD was a bank account And if you had a 3-in. floppy You hoped nobody found out. Compress was something you did to the garbage Not something you did to a file And if you unzipped anything in public You'd be in jail for a while. Log on was adding wood to the fire Hard drive was a long trip on the road A mouse pad was where a mouse lived And a backup happened to your commode. Cut you did with a pocket knife Paste you did with glue A web was a spider's home And a virus was the flu. I guess I'll stick to my pad and paper And the memory in my head I hear nobody dies in a "computer crash" But when it happens most wish they were dead. Title: Re: Homework and kids... Post by: cheropride on September 09, 2008, 08:03:39 PM Yea, it's simple, we had no computers... Well atleast not me... Well that may show my age... But still, they get alot of homework... ???
Title: Re: Homework and kids... Post by: Kaw3604x4 Princess on September 09, 2008, 08:10:39 PM I am with you on this one. Our oldest daughter is in the advanced academics, 4th grade. She had two hours worth of homework tonight, plus there are two different projects going on right now. She is reading on a 6th grade level, but the reading is not the problem, it is just the sheer amount of homework (of course it has been this way with her since 1st grade). Our other daughter is in 1st grade and was just moved from the advanced class to mainstream, and I am thankful for it!

Post by: Able on September 09, 2008, 08:18:23 PM It's definitely a lot of work, but they'll all be better off for it.
I agree about the socialization of home schooled kids. we have ours in sports, church, awanas, karate, and about every other activity we can schedule in. They went to private school for a while, but so far the home school is working out better in many ways. it's nice to be able to take trips or vacations any time without messing up their school. |
