Title: Just One Reason We Need Lawyers Post by: AintSkeered on August 29, 2008, 11:22:54 AM A 65 y.o. retired truck drive has been indicted for manslaughter in the fatal shooting of an off-duty Border Patrol agent. Following a road rage incident, the Border agent followed the old man to a post office to continue their dispute and was shot when the old man feared for his safety. Yet, he's being indicted, instead of being hailed a hero. He will be acquitted, but, only after being bled any money he might have to defend himself.

Of course, he could always represent himself and save some $$. He shot a law-enforcement officer and hopes to legally-defend himself? He shouldn't even be charged in the first place! And, depending upon how much lawyer he can afford, he'll probably be economically-forced to plea to a lesser-offense or minimal penalty.
Title: Re: Just One Reason We Need Lawyers Post by: Anoriginal on August 29, 2008, 01:16:04 PM No joke and no offense taken. It's cool. ;)
You're right, he should have never been charged if what I am reading about the situation is right. Sad stuff. And you're right, the defense lawyer will cost him huge dollars. Hopefully someone will help him out and either pay for the lawyer or do it pro bono. Isn't that why it was proposed?
