Title: Troubles with Polaris sportsman need help Post by: Thunderdually on August 11, 2008, 09:37:24 PM I bought two new 2006 Polaris sportsman 450 9 months ago and have had nothing but trouble with one of them. Two months after I bought them one of them started giving me trouble when I tried to climb a hill. I took it to the dealer two different times and each time the dealer said they couldn't find any thing wrong with it. Finally it got so bad that it wouldn't climb a hill in low and 4 wheel drive. After taking it back the third time they found out it had two bad clutches and replaced them under warranty. They thought that was the problem. Well it still won't climb a hill, It is now out of warranty and even though the problem still exists they won't honor their warranty. And the dealer doesn't know what is wrong with it.
So my question is has any one here had this sort of problem and if so what was done to repair it. The symptoms are.... It acts like it isn't getting gas but the dealer says it get plenty of gas. also the RPMs drop off and rev up again when trying to climb a hill. And before any one tells me it's a piece of sh*t and shouldn't have bought it... I already Know That. You said it loses power? ..You mean the engine slows down or the engine revs, but the bike slows down? Does it only lose power when going up a hill? Not on flat ground...? It is only 1 of the 2 you bought correct? Does/did this one get used more or less than the other one? Do you cross water often, or DEEP water at all? It's like the engine slows then picks up It's like it's cycling. Yes it only loses power on a hill. And yes it's only one of them. It's funny my son rides his hard runs it through mud and water and it runs great. On the other hand I ride my fairly slow and don't ride in mud (unless there is no other way to get where I am going LOL) or run it through water. I haven't had it in any water. My son and I have ridden about the same miles but I just poke along and look at the sights. maybe a fuel problem when you climb the hill. does it do it in reverse up the hill? how bout if you hold the brakes and give it gas on the flat ground? Title: Re: Troubles with Polaris sportsman need help Post by: Thunderdually on August 12, 2008, 04:15:21 PM merl try contacting polaris corporation direct. ride now sucks!!!! Hey Kevin It's not at RideNow, I haven't been back to them since I bought them. It's at St Pete powersports, Great bunch of guys down there. I have been talking to Polaris direct but they say they won't cover it under warranty. And it's because of RideNow.. The guys at St Pete Powersports found that both clutches where bad right after I started having trouble. They replaced both clutches but Polaris refused to pay for it because the clutches that where in my Quad was out of production for 8 months before my quad was built. So either RideNow sold me a used machine as New or they changed the clutches on it. It's just one big mess.. Out of the nine months I have had it, it has been in the shop a total of three months. And your right RideNow sucks!!!!! I'll try that next time I get a chance to take it out. It's still at the dealers Title: Re: Troubles with Polaris sportsman need help Post by: z400250 on August 12, 2008, 04:43:35 PM merl try contacting polaris corporation direct. ride now sucks!!!! They arn't gonna pitch the the parts that they have on there shelves unless they have been recalled (which take alottt of problems to get something recalled) so they use them up and then switch to there new production. Maybe you need to ride it a little like your son does or let him drive it once in awhile to keep it in check. My son and I have ridden about the same miles but I just poke along and look at the sights. I am not seeing the machine in person, but from what you are telling me, I don't think it's a clutch problem. Any chance you have gotten some contamination in the fuel? If you are riding easy most of the time, then the only time you would be heavier on the gas was when going "up hill", so that may be the only time the contamination shows up or causes problems. I would try draining the float bowl on the carb, and adding some SeaFoam additive (or something similar) if you don't want to drain the tank as well. Hope this helps.....Good Luck! |
