Title: BIG SUGAR
Post by: rdm225 on June 25, 2008, 12:58:13 PM
Big sugar is selling the land back to fla. hopefully the tax payer wont have to bail out the state and federal goverment on this one. I say turn it in to an atv park and charge riders to ride there . problem solved

Its a rip off. The government has been supporting Big Sugar with restricting imports on sugar, subsidising sugar prices, tax breaks, not to mention the access to the water supply in the Lake, not to mention the pollution run off that we are paying for to clean up. NOW they are going to sell the land they bought for nothing decades ago.

:o   Now that Big Sugar has sold out on the land, they will lay off 1700 employees.  They can stop spending money in this area and more businesses will have to lay people off or shut down.  What an economic nightmare!!!  Big Sugar was not the cause of all the damage to the Glades.  There is LOTS of blame to go around.  I guess it is just easier for some to have one group to blame.

Price

1.75 billion dollars to purchase.

Probably twice that much to turn the land into it original form

More to train the employees that will be layed off. Not to mention how long it will be before they find another job.

Plus who knows how much more in other areas that the state will need.

Guestamate price + around 10 billion dollars

In one area of the state.

And america is complaining money spent on war.

Thats my take on it.

HA!  They will take it from the school budgets.  Hasnt bothered them to do it thusfar.  After all, the lottery is putting so much into the schools.   ::)
Leaf lickers and jailbirds are the important things in this state.  Who cares about education, health care and law enforcement??

Supposedly the sugar companies will stay in business for another 8 years first

I believe that some employees have been spoken to about contracts for 5-6 years, but contracts can always be broken or bought out.

The sell their property for 1.75 billion dollars, and still get to stay in business for another 6 years. I have not even mentioned the money that the state will lose in property taxes and other taxes that Big Sugar pays. So that makes the cost much higher.

This will go down as one of the best Brooklyn Bridge sales of all time, prime time fleecing of America.
US Sugar has raped and pillage for years and now they will get payed to walk away from it.

Why would they sell out? Bottom line: the walk away from all liabilities.

SFWM dose not have the 13 million to finish the Picayune project. They don't have enough money to buy 600 acer for a riding area but they have 1.75 billion for US sugar?

The same jack asses who could not keep a 11 mile dirt road maintained(Jaine's Scenic Drive) are going to manage 187,000 acer (-125,000 acer for some special intrest)

ACE? They other jack asses paying a contractor millions to sit and wait?

I'm sick just thinking about it. boho

I heard in 6 years the company will slowly phaze out all employees. millons of dollars in tax will be lost to the county. they polluted the land  now there letting the goverment clean it up what a crock of sh*t

[I am a little curiuos as to who IS to blame for the pollution run off if it is not only the Cane Growers????/quote]
