Won't work, we already cut down our uses and prices are still rising. We now incorporate 10% ethanol to our gas and the price keeps rising. All the pricing goes through Opec and until we fix that our prices will never come down.
Thats what happens when you put 2 oil tycoons in office, especially on a second term. We have to ask ourselves why under both Bushes father and son gas price went out of control. :-\

cut back?

Three-step plan to drive oil and gas prices down quickly!
Call, email, write or fax your Representatives and Senators requesting three immediate actions;

 1) DRILL FOR OIL NOW!
Approve fast-track legislation to begin extracting oil and natural gas from the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and deep waters in the Gulf of Mexico, dramatically reducing foreign dependence.

2) REFINE MORE OIL NOW!
Approve fast-track legislation to build at least four new, strategically placed oil refineries throughout the U.S. as well as building new pipeline infrastructure to deliver finished product throughout the U.S.

3) STRONG US DOLLAR NOW!
Demand the federal government puts a freeze on new spending and reduces our $9.4 trillion national debt and deficits. This action will immediately strengthen the dollar and help reduce inflation.

Well the last term it was  flip flop Kerry running against him, a man who couldn't decide which way to speak.  Now after the next 4 years instead of everyone saying, thats what happens when you put an oil tycoon in office, people can say, thats what happens when you put a racist person in office after most of the criminals go free because of their race and the white man becomes the slaves..

You dont have to be a tree hugger to be against that.

Some of you guys need a serious education in the way our government works.  It's pathetic the way people fall for political rhetoric.  Go do yourself a favor and learn what each of the three branches of government do before you start spouting off.  At least you might have a chance of catching yourself before proving your ignorance.

Diggin is right,

Here are a few tidbits you may find insightful......

Part 1

 In just two years .  Remember the election in 2006?

 Thought you might like to read the following:

 A little over one year ago:

1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;

2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;

3) The unemployment rate was 4.5%.

Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we have seen:

1) Consumer confidence plummet;

2) The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3.50 a gallon;

3) Unemployment is up to 5% (a 10% increase);

4) American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate (stock and mutual fund losses);

5) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;

6) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.

America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!

Remember it's Congress that makes law not the President. He has to work with what's handed to him.

Quote of the Day........'My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world.  I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it.' -- Barack Obama

Part 2:

Taxes...Whether Democrat or a Republican you will find these statistics enlightening and amazing.

  www.taxfoundation.org/publications/show/151.html

Taxes under Clinton 1999                   Taxes under Bush 2008

Single making 30K - tax $8,400             Single making 30K - tax $4,500

Single making 50K - tax $14,000          Single making 50K - tax $12,500

Single making 75K - tax $23,250          Single making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 60K - tax $16,800       Married making 60K- tax $9,000

Married making 75K - tax $21,000       Married making 75K - tax $18,750

Married making 125K - tax $38,750     Married making 125K - tax $31,250

Both democratic candidates will return to the higher tax rates

It is amazing how many people that fall into the categories above think Bush is screwing them and Bill Clinton was the greatest President ever. If Obama or Hillary are elected, they both say they will repeal the Bush tax cuts and a good portion of the people that fall into the categories above can't wait for it to happen. This is like the movie The Sting with Paul Newman; you scam somebody out of some money and they don't even know what happened.

PART 3:

You think the war in Iraq is costing us too much?

      Read this:

Boy am I confused.  I have been hammered with the propaganda that it

IMHO this is what this is all about. Oils companies have tried for years to get approval to drill for oil in these locations with out success. So they figure if the price goes high enough we will let they drill in these areas

2) REFINE MORE OIL NOW!
Approve fast-track legislation to build at least four new, strategically placed oil refineries throughout the U.S. as well as building new pipeline infrastructure to deliver finished product throughout the U.S.

According to the St. Petersburg Times The United States has the biggest stockpile of emergency oil owned by a government in the world. Called the strategic petroleum reserve, It contains about 700-million barrels that are stored along the Gulf Coast in underground salt caverns.

This is suppose to be used in an emergency if we have interrupted supplies from other countries. Or in case of a war.

Every time we have a hurricane in the gulf the oil companies use this as an excuse to raise the price of gas because there aren't enough refineries to produce enough gas to replace the volume that was lost while the oil rigs couldn't produce oil.

If we don't already have enough refineries how the hell could our country produce gas from our oil reserves in an emergency.

3) STRONG US DOLLAR NOW!
Demand the federal government puts a freeze on new spending and reduces our $9.4 trillion national debt and deficits. This action will immediately strengthen the dollar and help reduce inflation.

I'll go along with this. Here's another idea, Why not raise prices of our products that are exported to other countries.  You know our farmers would love to see corn sell for $500.00 a bushel. $5.00 a piece for a potato or a tomato.

How about all the countries pay back the loans that the good old USA gave them.
How about Arab countries pay for the supplies that our government is giving them to build new schools and hospitals.

I like number 3! Our government needs to control the federal banking system, there out of control but then again so is our government in which the way they are spending our hard earn money.
Maybe next we will borrowing money from Cuba.  ;)

Snopes would never intentionally lie  about anything. They are rather well respected and have a team of researchers who track down every source, no matter how obscure.

As well as every Senator and Representative that voted for it (I don't remember the exact figures but I know it was a very high percentage), all of whom had the same information as Bush did.  That is, if you want to believe that all the people running our country are stupid enough to be fooled by some camel jock.  Here's a little tidbit for you.  There may be more to the run-up in fuel costs than any of you think and I stumbled across it while researching the Water4Gas thread.  It turns out that back in 2003, the DOE published a report that the only way a hydrogen economy could be cost effective would be if the equivalent cost of gasoline exceeded $4.50 per gallon.  Makes you want to say "hmmmmm..." when you consider companies like ExxonMobil, who have profited more money than any other company in history, has put nearly nothing towards capital expenditures in exploration.  In fact, they are paying large dividends and buying back shares; essentially, cashing out.  Think they might know something we don't?

It is ExxonMobil's legal responsibility to maximise shareholder profit.  ;)

They have no legal obligation other than to adhere to GAAP.  That being said, by not investing in the future (finding and developing more oil reserves), disbursing retained earnings and buying back shares, they are essentially cashing out.  They have effectively announced that they are ceasing as a business concern; they are going to play out what they have and close up shop.  Most other oil companies are investing normal amounts in exploration but have begun to accelerate investments in alternative fuel technologies.  That would indicate they are changing with the times, evolving into energy companies rather than oil companies.  The biggest of the lot, though, is not doing that.  You have to ask why.  Why would they chose a path that doesn't have a future?
