Title: BASS PRO, I LOVE IT AND HATE IT! Post by: Bigscrb15 on April 28, 2005, 10:49:44 PM I love bass pro! I cant walk into that store with any money or it will all be gone. I will buy all sorts of stuff for my flats boat or new fishin rods or anything I can find. I spend a good amount at that store every year and I usually go there knowing what I want. The problem is, they are just like every other big box store in the world(lowes, walmart, home depot, etc.) They dont know anything!!!! After researching new gps units I decide to take the 45 minutes drive up there tonight and look at them in person. After hearing his shpiel on all the diferent units, I decided on a Magellan explorist 500. He tells me they dont have the rail mount for these but they have them for the garmin he was trying to sell me, ok ill get the garmin. I walk over to gps accessories and they are out of stock on the garmin rail mount, but I look to my left and there is one for the magellan, now back to the magellan. Then I asked about topo maps. They had two kinds of topo maps available for it(regular and 3d) They were both $99. However they were out of stock of the 3D one. The salesman told me you can only see the 3d part on ur pc, no big deal to get the regular one then. I tell him I want the regular one and the rail mount and the magellan, total comes to about $560 . This was $60 than I wanted to spend but its ok. So I get home and hook up the unit to my pc and install all the software and the topo maps and try to upload to the gps and it tells me to upgrade my firmware, well my gps unit jut came out last month, there are no upgrades. After looking on google I find out that the topo 4.2 i got is not compatible with my unit. I have to have the 3D version! I was hoping to have this for the holey lands ride this weekend with my fancy topo maps and all, now I am just going to have a $560 breadcrumb trail until I can get back to basspro.

I used to work at a Kmart so I can speak from experience. Out of all places you would think a Bass Pro or a Home Depot would have a more knowledgeable staff. It would be possible if the employees stayed more than a few months. I know at Kmart it was hard keeping track of who worked there because people were coming and going so fast... I wouldnt want to spend my money training them either, lol.
