Title: Re: Real for Fake??? Post by: gery350 on April 21, 2008, 03:05:13 PM fake. i believe the highest vacuum you can achieve is two atmospheres which is about 30 in.
it would take alot more then that to implode that tank. gery Title: Re: Real for Fake??? Post by: big-daddy on April 21, 2008, 03:28:52 PM Doesn't matter if its real or fake. I like it either way. Title: Re: Real for Fake??? Post by: quadracer1992 on April 21, 2008, 07:38:17 PM First off it IS REAL. What happened was the tank was filled with steam, but before all the steam left the tank, it was sealed off. Air pressure inside the tank was higher than the outside pressure when the steam was inside it, since gases will spread out and push out on the tank. But as the gas(steam) cooled, it condensed, and the pressure rapidly decreased inside the tank, and there was more pressure outside the tank than inside, so it imploded. In other words, a vaccum was created inside the tank and it wanted to pull in air but it was sealed, so crunch! We did this in chemistry but with a soda can.

Post by: digginfool on April 22, 2008, 07:29:50 AM I would have to say real. We had it happen to one of our vacuum trucks. The operator got the hose stuck to the ground and the vacuum break malfunctioned. It didn't take long to collapse the tank, and I'm not talking a small tank; about 3,000 gallon steel tank. To be fair, it turned out our tank had some corrosion and erosion issues but it collapsed just the same, in much the same manner.
