Offensive' car ornaments could net $60 fine
By Linda Kleindienst | Sun-Sentinel.com

TALLAHASSEE - Often seen dangling from the rear fender of trucks hauling down the road, "truck-nutz" can elicit honks, laughs or just stares.

But they could soon net the driver a $60 fine.

Saying that many find the replicas of male genitalia to be offensive or obscene, Sen. Carey Baker, R-Eustis, is on a mission to get them banned from the road.

But that's offended some of his fellow senators, who say it would impede freedom of expression -- and that law enforcement officers already have plenty to do.

TruckNutz on the Web
State Legislature: All you need to know from Tallahassee
"It's shocking we would be telling people that have metallic testicles on the bottom of their bumpers, 'Guess what? We've now determined it's obscene.' There's gotta be better things for us to be debating," said Senate Democratic Leader Steve Geller of Cooper City.

Among those who have had the auto ornaments is Sen. Jim King, R-Jacksonville. Decorated in the garnet and gold colors of his alma mater, Florida State University, they hung on the back of his Suburban until his wife, Linda, demanded they be removed. They now grace the wall of a warehouse.

Baker made clear his proposal would not impact the decal that shows a "little boy doing bad things to other vehicles. That's not my issue. My bill refers to a reproduction of reproductive glands. So, if it doesn't show the glands, it isn't covered. And the little boy decals don't show the glands."

The provision was tucked into a transportation package that bans drag racing and allow drivers to use HOV lanes whenever they want, and no matter how many passengers they have, if they are driving hybrid, low-emission or energy-efficient vehicles.

I think they are kinda rude , especially when your kids ask you what is that hanging from the truck, and then we wonder whats wrong with our kids when their out of control, it all starts in the home... People need to express themselves in a more Moral way.

My dog has giant balls so my daughter figured it out on her own. I think they are pretty stupid, but banning them is absurd IMO. The government has way more important things to deal with.

I stole this from another forum where this is being discussed.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Yes this even applies to tacky people who want to hang truck-nutz displays. It’s called the 1st Amendment its part of a thing called the U.S. constitution.

Perhaps the people who are offended by these displays should use the opportunity to educate their children about why it is we allow such freedom of expression in our country. And why it is so important that we protect that right even when it means we are sometimes exposed to things which make us uncomfortable or we don’t agree with.

Explain to them about the 1st amendment and how together with the other amendments in our Bill of rights they can learn the story of our democracy and how we came to be a great nation. You may want to speak these words in the past tense because the times they are a changing and we are looking everyday more and more like the old Soviet Union where the state controlled what you could say and read. "

I don't have them but did consider getting them. There are more things to worry about in Tallahassee. For the people who thinks its offensive, you better not open your email today because there will definately be something offensive there. Now for the kids, don't let them ever get on the computer or go to public school because thats where most of them learn about the worst stuff possible. These truck nuts are not near as offensive then the stuff learned at other places.

I do not agree with them. I have a couple kids and try to regulate what they get exposed to. I am the one who decides. Besides I think if you have to show some FAKE ones, means you are lite on the real ones.

GROW SOME FIRST BEFORE YOU HANG THE FAKE ONES. <nanaparty> <nanaparty> <nanaparty> <nanaparty>

You got a point. It will all depend on how the law is written, not as they are speaking it. They will put the words in different language to cover those and more.

Whats funny is when I drive Hubby's truck and I have guys coming up asking whats hangin back there. I usually tell them some guy got outta hand and I ran him over and they laugh and walk off. And they have different size ones they aren't just Bulls. When we went to get the ones we have from the Chrome Shop they had Bull, Dog, Squirrel, human and I think they were Goats. I have seen more offensive things wrote on windshields than the balls could ever state. Our F350 has alot of Chrome and it just adds to it. My kids know what they are and they are 7 and 6, they never asked what they were b/c we have animals and they tend to be smart enough to notice things. I have heard my 7yr old come home from 2nd grade and tell me things his friends have said and it's way worse than anything the balls represent. TV, Radio, Magazines, Internet and lack of being able to discipline our kids is the reason the kids are the way they are today. You can blame it on whatever you want but parents know what I'm talking about. Parents have more rules on how we can discipline our kids than the kids have to follow now days. Bring back discipline and you'll see a change in how things are in the future.

LOL I don't have any and as for compensation..... If hubby's were that big and shiny I would hang his on the back of the truck too :)  All it's saying is my truck has balls,  I know alot of the people around here say there trucks have the balls to go through the mud but don't have anything hangin to show it. Atleast I can smile and say yep mine are big, shiny and when I hit bumps it don't hurt when they get racked a few times :)
