There will be a race at the Ocala Speedway on May 17th. We will be running the car track- 3/8 mile.

Race times are:
Gates OPen @ 10 am
Practice @ 12pm
Racing Starts @ 2 pm

There will be quads, motorcycles, and possibly some micro sprints racing. There WILL be a knobby class. There will be no stock cars racing that night, and I will prep the track to make sure it's nice and smooth.

For anyone who has never been to the Ocala Speedway, it is, in my opinion, the nicest facility in Florida. Also, this track has a nice asphalt figure 8 section in its infield. In the upcoming months there will be a supermoto / TT race which will utilize the big track and the aspahlt infield with some TT sized jumps.

Damn! Where have I been? Those classes suck SOOOO bad to go to in person. They are never anything useful either. Plus, I always get stuck sitting next to the guy who wants to continously tell me how smart and important he is, how great his business is, blah, blah, blah. LOL
I've got to find me some online classes for sure.

Our date of Saturday, May 17th is now confirmed.

Race Times are:

Gates Open @ 10 am
Practice @ 12pm
Racing @ 2pm
 

Several people have asked me what to expect with this track, so here goes:

* The surface is white gumbo clay.
* It holds moisture very well and has hardly no dust. We ran the entire AMA and AHRMA Winter Nationals on it for two days without watering it.
* The track will blue groove very quickly with lots of traffic.
* The track is 3/8 mile long. It is bigger than Eastbay, but has less banking. It is a big fast track, but it is no more dangerous than any other track. We had 300+ riders there for the AMA and AHRMA nationals during Bike Week with no major accidents or injuries.
* The track is WIDE. The cars routineley run 3 and 4 wide through the turns.
* Camping is allowed at the track. Camping will be in the grass parking area outside the track. There is no charge to camp.
* There are nice, paved pits.
* There is a full concession stand.
* There are nice, clean restrooms.
* There will be no alcohol sold the day we race, nor will there be ANY alcohol allowed in the pits.

I forgot to mention it earlier, but due to the size of the track we will be running reduced laps.

For this race we will run two 6 lap heat races and a 8 lap main.

All classes will get two rounds of practice, possibly more, time permitting.

Brady, have you worked it out with the track owners for us to stay the night on Friday?  They are having a race there on Friday and it would be nice to attend.  If so please advise us on the price for Friday night entrance.  I assume it will be their normal admission but maybe you have gone to bat for us  :tsktsk.gif on a special admission  ???

Camping in the grass parking area is not a problem.

I haven't asked about multi-day discounts or anything like that. I will see what I can work out.

 Looks like you are taking up for the 2 strokes. Everyone knows they will never finish if you left it alone. Guess I will come out and give the inter. class a try.

How hard is this track on tires?

it wasnt too bad when we ran the bikes at the AMA race

What would be the report on us trikers brady? Would they just blend us into one of the quad classes? 

I just scored some duro tri tracs so other then that I should be good to go next to a kill switch.

Well if you show up and Billy shows up, you just need one more for a class. What about Walter on the 350X or Sykolincoln?

If not, we'll run you guys somewhere with the quads.

 If I'm able to I'm gonna run the knobbie class with my 500, I got some tamers I'm gonna put on. Any chance there will be a radar gun there? Really interested to see what some of the speeds (mine, in particular ;)) will be on this track.

Yea I'm on a limbo right now but it's looking good so far.. I think Alan (syko) won't be attending this season I heard last.. I don't know about Walter, Billy if you hear anything keep us posted.

If anything I'll bring my scorpions which are like tamers so I'll run the knobbie class or if my duros pass for a knobbie since they are big I'll run those  ;)

Will it be the same price for the pits and the stands or will it be more to go in the pits?

Is this oval bigger than sand mountains oval?

Sand Mountain was a 1/3 mile track so yes this track is bigger by 1/24th of a mile

So this track is approx 220 feet longer

It's $10.00 per person for everyone who comes through the gate. Children under 5 are free.

There will not be any additional "pit fees".

The stands are in the pits.

Oh I am glad you posted the admission price.  The other day I went to Ocala's website and it showed 12 and under were free.  My bad.....

I just checked the work schedule.. they got my down 9-2 and that's in Ocala, I can bring my bike and such with me during the day but I won't be able to practice, warm up or anything, heck I can't even register early!! Brady what do I have for options, am I going to have to sit this one out?

we (the quads) plan on going 80+ mph if that helps. :o

the only way that i can see anything going 80 mph, is being wide open in 1 and 2
and not slowing down going into 3.

The race quads are easily capable of 80 mph on this track. They would routinely hit mid 60's mph, and occasionaly high 60's mph on the front straightaway at Thunderbowl, which was 1/4 mile track, whereas this is a 3/8 mile with big 'ol long straightaways. Should be interesting.

well the quads have some advantages over the bikes.  2 big tires in rear & more power!  we put down up to 22" of rubber in the rear and there will be at least 2 bikes in the 80+ hp range and MANY others in the 55-65 hp range. on my machine all i have to do is run out 5th gear and i will be going over 80. hit 6th and go all the way to 95+mph.  i agree with brady. we "should" be able to go at least 80mph if the track is hooking good. 8)

Hi guys, I'm back from Green Bay and Philly. I raced at Neeses, SC last Saturday and took a 2nd in the Open Vintage class. BUT then there were only 3 in the class. The third place finisher told me after the race that he got a 3rd place trophy and that I finished next to last. LOL In the 2 months that I have been gone, Neeses was the only racing that I could do as none of the tracks up north were open yet. I had planned to ride Atwater, Wisconsin where I had that bad crash last spring (that 4 letter word, WORK) kept me from it. Gotta support the racing habit somehow.

I am planning to race at Rochester, NH on the half mile in mid June during Laconia Bike Week. There are 2 more races following Rochester at local tracks in the next 2 days after Rochester to make it a 3 race series. flattrack ben and I rode Rochester last June and had a great time. It is a wide cushion track with wide turns and lots of room. I have seen the pros running 4 abreast in the turns there.

Will see you all tomorrow. Its going to be hot in my leathers but I dress for the slide not the ride.

    I will be bringing a small group of fans to watch the races. One of them will be taking alot of pictures and video taping the heats & final races. My objective is that if they turn out well, I would be willing to burn DVD copies and for a small donation to the SDTA diesel fuel fund, I would mail out copies to anyone interested. Hoping whoever would want one would make a $5 or $10 donation to the SDTADFF. To help out the cause. Could you possibly have riders write their e mail address down when they sign up, get me a copy of the e mail list and I would blast out an e mail offering the DVD of the Ocala races. If I remember right, we had 67 riders at the last race. If 1/2 of them were interested.....$5 bucks x 30 riders .....$150 bucks........not alot but would buy at least 10 or 15 gallons of diesel.

Made it back safe and sound. Thanks for an excellent weekend of racing Dave, Brady, and everyone else that helped out. Brett, good to see you again man. 500 performed as expected for me until I had some sort of a piston failure and lost compression in the main (wasn't overtly lean, so I'm not sure what happened yet). But thanks again to everyone, hope everybody had safe and good rides home like I did.

A great night of racing thanks for the wonderful opportunity guys.  In the vet 30 class there was a bad accident in the 1st heat.  Two quads got together in the last turn and each of them hit the wall BAD.  I have it on video (most of it) and will work on posting it.  I have done pics on the forum but not videos.  Fortunately for the 2 neither of them went to the hospital, one actually tried racing the next heat.  Almost all of the quads were running in the mid 60's with only 2 quads actually hitting 70 mph.  I am glad the speeds were down today, I could not even imagine hitting 80-90!

Once again thanks for making this happen!

You are still one up on me Brady. My fan base of 4 were all no shows. So at least you have "hecklers". Took a few pics, not many and will post them here. Hope the riders in the quad class that found the wall are ok. Was another great day of racing and for that I THANK YOU. My wife is finding out what racing/traveling is all about now. Had a right front tire explode on the dualley on the way home.  By the time I was able to pull over we were engulfed in heavy smoke. Scared the hell out of us but other than that, all else is ok. Called AAA and while they were on the road John & Royal passed by and didn t reconize the vehicle right way and backed up almost a half mile on interstate to see if we were ok...........thats the kind of people SDTA has in its group. People that care. Finally got home around midnight. My wife looked at me and said.......you must really love racing.....(you know the answer)......DAM RIGHT!!!!!!

   Everybody,
  A huge thanks for everyone who came out and raced and all the family members who supported the racers. Also thanks to all the volunteers who helped us make it work...Rick, Liz, Jennifer, Brad, Darren, Shawn, Brady and anyone I forgot! I will post all the results from Ocala and the points-to-date as soon as possible. There were a total of 62 entries this time, 70 if we count the money class entries. The turnout gets better with each race.
  Sumter is next Saturday May 24. Registration opens at 10am, rider meeting at 11:45, practice at noon, racing at 2pm. Along with all the other activities going on at the fairgrounds, there will be a mini-concert after we finish racing and everyone is welcome to stay.

The old guys and some of the few people I can say that to. Great People. Have given me some great advice on my racing in my quest to improve. Got my sights zoomed in on the fast guys......Kurt, Shawn.....that Brantley guy.....the 59 & 18 and anyone else that kicks my butt in 08. Might have to build a smaller bike to do it.....bigger is not always better.........but is a blast trying wrestle the BEAST!!!!!. Made it to 4th gear at Ocala which was a thrill. Got in the loose stuff in coming out of turn 2 on the second lap.......was dirt track'n it feet up slid'n all the way out of the turn..........wasn 't going anywhere......everyone went underneath me,....BUT MAN!!!!!!.....what a THRILL!!!!

team wach iss had a GREAT time this weekend! we accomplished our small goals,finish the race and go home in one piece! ocala is a BIG track, wasn't sure how to ride that bugger but was going faster each time out. our 350's were down on power against the big bikes but having fun was the main goal. mission accomplished!
we'll defantly come back! were planning on sumterville. think we may have somthin for you guys with big motors on the small tracks!

oh,i got hurt bb. but it could of been much worse :( if not for my awesome dismount,i figured the fence would feel better than the wall ;)  thanks to rick and all the people who got to my side so fast and to all the peple that helped me load that bent up beast and gave me the advil so quick.i'm really hurting bad today,but by the look on peoples faces i guess i might of dodged a bigger bullet.i think i should paint a bullseye on my back :( but i have to say that was fun trading back and forth with  that banshee, until mr.8 tires are better than 4 piledrived me.oh well thats  flattrackin with crazys.oh i almost forgot,if anyone has a stock axle for a  05 450r or one that will fit pm me,thanks rob.

His name is Tyler and he had fun racing with you too, at least for the first 2 minutes of the race after that it wasnt even close.  He has a pipe and filter on his 400 and for that size track there was no way he could be competitive against your quad.  That thing was fast and so were you.  Great Job.  Do you run the TT Tracks also?

No we are going to wait until a TT Race is scheduled.  That was his first race on the 400 and also with tires and a sway bar.  He has only raced one other race and that was Eastbay and he was on his ltz250 with knobbies.

all i have to say is i love that track! it is definitely on my favorits list. its nice to be able to stretch out my big 2 stroke. i know that the radar gun clocked me @ 70mph but i am here to tell you guys we were going faster than that. by my calculations my bike will go 90mph with my gearing,rpm,tire size and transmission ratios. mathematically fact! i was hitting the rev limiter half way down the back straight but i was not winding it all the way out down the front. i think my corner speed in turn one & two was about 60mph. so if you look at it like that we were DEFINITLY haulin' ! 8)

After 1042 miles, $250.00 in gas, $120.00 in food, $129.00 hotel for 2 nights (Ramada), & $80.00 in entry fees I am 1 tired mofo.

Glad I got to come down and race with you guys this past Saturday. I think that I raced the track more than anything else. Never been on a track like that before but I will be a lot more prepared next time.

Got to meet Dave, CJ, and another guy on a blue banshee with the #24 but I don't remember his name. All stand up guys to talk to.

Great day of racing.Travis over heated in the first heat felt like it was down on power. Check it on Sunday morning found out he had a cracked piston. Won't be able to get parts till next week we will have to sit the next race out. Wish everyone luck and be safe.
Meghan was running strong until her spin out in turn 4 thank god she did not flip she sure does scare us as fast as she is getting.

how did it overheat?  it looked like it was running pretty damn good in the money class. sounded like it too! :-\

Yes yall are quick, but I will be better next time. It's hard going to a superspeedway from a shorttrack and racing with the same set up. ::) I wrenched on my bike between every race and even fell asleep 1 time changing the rear sprockets. I was give out. Maybe next time I will have some folks with me so I don't have to do it all by myself. ???

Bamaquad I will go with you next time. I hope to get my quad back together soon.
