Title: new to street bikes..
Post by: bigwake on March 31, 2008, 11:58:48 PM
ok so i got a 2002 gsxr600 fuel injected...as you all know, florida has horrible drivers on the road..i NEED people to hear me when i am in traffic..so my solution is loud exhaust..i don't have money to dump into a high end system so i want to throw some custom straight pipes (no baffles) on it..the motor is all stock..will it fry? thanx!

just cause you have loud pipes doesnt mean they will hear you comming, and yes if you run an open header you will be lean and you can fry it.

Also look into upgrading the horn. I know it's not much, but the stock ones are so quiet they're almost pointless. For under $100 you can upgrade to something people can actually hear.

open pipes are now illegal. or will be soon. i cant remember when that law starts. so now, all the harleys, busas, and all the other bikes with em are illegal. just get a decent slip-on for it. my CBR that i had was very loud when you would rev it up a little (like run at higher rpm). it had a muzzy full system but the head pipe isnt gonna give you more noise. so get a slip on for it. get a used one from ebay if $ is a major issue.

it was good. it was my dads and he just sold it. it was a fun bike to ride. it had loud pipes too. but anyway, it was alot more comfy than the CBR i had and it was fast for a 83. plenty fast to get you in trouble. my dad loved it. it looked cool too. we sold them to get enduros though.

Take the MSF course.  It'll help a lot more then loud pipes.

...uh..ya..i already took it..and it deffinately won't help anything..one guy in my class wrecked the bike really bad and he passed..i've heard more stories of people passing that were wrecking as well

Better to wreck on the class than on the street though (and on someone elses bike). Lessons learned hopefully.

ya deff! it was pretty funny too..the kid was a senior in high school and didn't have a clue about the basics..he just sat on the bike and would rev it up constantly, to the point that the instructors would tell him to cut it out..so we were doing fast braking..and he just skid and slid and rolled and it was soooo funny i was dying

ya.. i know it helps SOMETHING...but not the something that's out of my hand :banghead.gif ....like..OTHER DRIVERS..i can do all the safety riding i want and then someone doesn't hear me and i'm dead....

Honestly, and I mean no offense at all. If you are that skeptical about riding, then I wouldnt ride at all. Self confidence is key to riding, and if you arent sure that you can handle most situations, then you are hurting yourself from the start. The most important thing is safetly, and while other drivers will contribute to most of the situations you will find yourself in, its not worth it if you are prepared mentally. Anyone can ride, but it takes a rider to ride safe. Take it slow if anything, and stay off heavily congested roads until you are more confident.

...ugh...you guys don't get it..I AM SAFE WHEN I RIDE i'm saying the exhaust WOULD help SOME because it would be very very loud..like as loud as sirens on a fire truck..i'm not saying safety isn't needed..i'm saying i can be the safest person on the planet and then my quiet exhaust gets me run over by some pregnant dog on the phone..even though my entire body and bike are bubble wrapped

Im sorry dude but youre clueless I guess. The decibal levels of your exhaust will if any, play little part in what you encounter on the road.

No, Im the genius who runs a cbr 1100, and dont never worry about how loud my bike is., youre the one who opbviously is too scared to ride your bike, and trying to make excuses for yourself. If you want reality, here it is. Get a scooter, theyre pretty loud if you take off the baffle.

lol yea, I much prefer the interstate. I didnt want to start a shouting match with you bigwake, but it just seems to me that you have alot of reserve about riding in traffic. Its just that it is dangerous even for the most experienced riders, but if your not 100% confident on your bike, then you are hurting yourself. I wish you luck, and if anything, try and see if Cobra makes an application for your bike. You dont need to get a full pipe system just to raise the noise level.
I personally try to have the lowest sound possible, but thats just me.

ya..i figure i'm going to leave it stock because everyone knows how much money these bikes turn out to cost after mods and then return the same price as a stock bike..it has all the power i could use and more..i'll just expect no one sees or hears me

Title: Re: new to street bikes..

lol, if only we had our own lanes. Then again, theyd probably end up clogged with the
cruisers just putting along. JK, to all the cruisers.

Title: Re: new to street bikes..
Post by: bigwake on April 03, 2008, 12:31:26 AM
thats what i find ironic around my town..the cruisers are older guys and they gas the crap outta them every time they pull away like a drag race ..then the sportbikes slowly accelerate and then rip a wheelie and fly away..or the sportbikes just move slow and quietly

lol thats pretty much the same as my area. Sometimes Ill take my lunch across the street from the Harley place, and watch the guys leave. I have a custom, but hardly ever ride it. Its much more fun on the rocket.

ya i feel more comfortable on the ricer because it's super nimble and will move nicely..i actually got tapped yesterday in my neighborhood by some old lady at an intersection..it was a 3 way stop and i stopped and began to go and this lady came flying down the road and never stopped and skid into my rear tire and tapped me lightly and she jumped out of her car to come yell at me or something and i punched it and i saw her again going like 60 down my street that's a 20 zone..i honestly dont get people

It's not the loud noise that helps people know your their, it's your lights. Get HID's and possibly the strobe ones. You need to make sure they see you!!
Get riding gear with the plates in the jackets also with some nice gloves.

ya i want the led kit so they can see me from the side (like at a stop sign/intersection) because the headlight can't be seen from the side well..and i have all armor so hopefully it'll be good
