Title: Willys Flat Head Engine Help
Post by: HVYHLR53 on March 23, 2008, 07:18:17 PM
Does anyone know anything about the 4 cylinder Flat Head Engines. I just bought a Buggy and I need to buy a few parts for the engine, but not sure what type (F, L) flat head it is. Anyone know how to figure it out?

On the F engine the intake valves are in the head, but the exhaust valves are in the block. The valve configuration makes the F-Head engine taller than the L-Head because the L-Head has the intake and exhaust valves in the block

also you can look at the water thermostat neck and it will have a serial number somewhere stamped in the block.that number can tell you everything you need to know with just a google search.or check m38a1.com they might can help

Great, Thanks for the help. I am going to pull it apart tonight and make a grocery list. I did find a number on the block that ended with an "F", but don't see how any valves would fit in that little head.
