Post by: FEARLESS on January 17, 2005, 12:33:24 PM
I HAVE AN 04 HONDA RANCHER ES...I RECENTLY WENT TO L-CROSS...WHILE I WAS THERE MY BIKE STALLED GOING ACROSS A WATER PASS. THE NEXT DAY COULD NOT GET IT STARTED. PULLED THED PLUG,REPLACED IT,CHANGED OIL,BUT EVER SINCE BIKE HAS LOST POWER AND NOW IS BLOWING WHITE SMOKE CONSTANTLEY. THINKING WATER IN THE OIL,I RAN A FULL CASE OF ATF AND STILL WHITE SMOKE...BIKE IDELS FINE BUT SEVERE LOSS OF POWER. OTHER MODS ARE K&N,DYNOJET KIT,HMF EXHAUST,SNORKLED, 4'' LIFT,26 589S...SO IF ANY ONE CAN GIVE ME SOME DIRECTION..IT MAY BE VALVE SEALS OR PISTON RINGS.WELL HONDA WONT BE TO HAPPY...REALLY DONT WANT TO PUT BACK TO STOCK FOR WARRENTY..ANY KNOWN REPAIR SHOPS IN BROWARD AREA? THANKS GUYS!

that don't sound good at all, you might want to pull the head off and take a look at the cylinder wall. don't let it get any worse. 8)

Try flushing the motor with deisel fuel. Turn the kill switch off. then turn the bike over for 10-15 secs. drain and repeat a few times then change the oil twice more, running it for a few moments, then change the oil and filter for the last time. There are a lot of nooks an crannies in the motor that need to be cleaned out, the deisel fuel is thin enough to draw out the water.

If it persists after that, you have probably done internal motor damage, i.e. piston rings or bent a valve. Was the motor hydrolocked and you tried to crank it? You can try a motor honey for a temp fix, to stop the smoke.

On a positive note - it may be time for a big bore kit.

My buddies Rancher started doing this same thing in the past week ..  It has a Valve noise also ..  Its quite notice-able ...

Except it only blows some sometimes after its warm ..

Sounds like your rings could of wore down or they might not be in line.
