Title: z400 tapping

my friend has a 03 z400 and over the weekend it started to have a tapping noise but it still runs great and burns no oil or water . can someone tell me if this is normal with the 400

it could be the valves need to be adjusted, but im not an xpert so im not sure

deffantally check the vaulves, I heard the z400 motor has a crutial clearance and if they get to far out it will damage the vaulves!  It is usally need soon after the initial break in, once everything is seteled in, after they are adjusted it will last longer till the next adjustment from what I have been told.

It could be eaither the valve adjustment, or the cam chain. I have one in the shop right now, that had a bad chain in it, happened all of a sudden. Ran fine all day, then last ride out, It started tapping. So it is very possible, for the chain to just go out.

If it is the chain you can go in and modify the stock adjuster to give it more travel instead of replacing the chain..Its alot cheaper and works great.

i gotta z and i had tapping and it was the valves
