Title: best option for my atv Post by: mikeE36 on February 01, 2008, 12:49:00 PM I own a 2003 honda 250ex. its burning a alot of white smoke. Took it to honda the guy said top end needs to be done. I'm not good at rebuilding motors. Can I just take a top end from another 250ex and put it on my four wheeler? Instead of taking apart the current top end and boring it out and putting new rings in? I only paid 1200 for this atv and it has alot of hours on it so I want to keep it as cheap as possible.
Thank you Title: Re: best option for my atv Post by: TRX450R_Racer on February 01, 2008, 01:32:25 PM Weather you buy new parts or get a used top end you have to do the exact same labor. It's not like the whole "top end" just unbolts from one motor to another. You have to remove the timing chain, head, jug/cylinder to do the job.
To do it cheap, you will need rings, a base gasket, valve cover gasket and head gasket. they cost about $60. If you live close to WPB PM me and I will do it cheap. even if it was pooring out smoke, chances are i would leave it alone but thats becasue i would treat a 250ex like a total beater. if its a nice bike than you may want it runing top noch, its up to you. just dont think that you HAVE to rebuild it because it smokes.
