Title: i murdered out my rims!!!!!!
Post by: predatorracer8 on January 31, 2008, 08:34:05 PM
i painted my douglass chrome rims black(fronts) and put new maxxis razr on them, i did this job my self i wet sanded the rome than put 2-3 coats primer sand the primer between coats then sprayed dupli-color spray paint, but its supposed to be really good paint and is intended for acar paint. this job cost me 15 bucks for the paint, primer and sandpaper and i got the tries fairly priced. just to show you, you dont have to spend a fortune on paint. and ya the paint wont last as long as powdercoat pro job but for the money i would rather take the time and do a touch up job every-once-in-a-while. i think they look sweet.

They look great, I like the black wheel look. If you are going to stick with the XC racing they wont look like that for long. I predict lots of touch ups ;D

Thank you,   im with xc for life, but yes i have low expectations for the life expectancy i just want them to atleast last the first race with no serious scrape but i could really care less if they get messed up just sand them and do it again, gives me something to do when i aint workin.

Not to rain on your parade but... usually on aluminum(and anodized aluminum)
you have to use a special primer that etches and bonds to the substrate. Then
you can paint and it will stick. Otherwise it usually just flakes right off. For
instance, when washing the wheels. Sanding aluminum has about zero effect.

I truly hope this doesn't happen to you, they look real good mon'! You did an
excellent job.
