Title: 3rd gear downshifts to 2nd at high rpm
Post by: gery350 on April 11, 2005, 09:09:00 AM
help. my warrior downshifts from the 3rd to second at a high rpm(racing). under a  normal load runs fine so it doesnt bother me that much since i hardly ever race. according to the seller they had redone the bottom end. i'm guessing something didnt align right or was not adjusted properly. anyway i'm pretty sure its not a quick fix but was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what is causing this and how to repair. thanks.

Sounds like either your shifter shaft is bent or under higher rpms, vibration occurs and maybe a bolt/screw is backing out. Either way you have to split the case to repair it. I'd take it back to where you got the work done and see if they'll do it no charge.  -Mark

Sounds like you could have some worn, or bent shift forks. :-/

thanks for the input. i figured it was something internal. doesnt bother me since the bike rides fine as long as i dont hit it hard on 3rd.  thanks again guys.

I second the shift fork theory. It doesn't take much. A slightly bent shift fork and then the engagement dogs on the gears start to round. It will probably get worse with time.
