Title: Brakes??????
Post by: Yamaha72 on May 17, 2005, 04:26:56 PM
I was changing my front sprocket not to long ago and I had to take the chain off. In order to do that I had to find and remove the master-link, well I found it but it was a pain to get off so I sprayed it with some WD-40 and accidently got some on my brake rotor. After I realised it was already to late.... They pads have quite some life left on them and don't want to spend the 35-40 $ for new ones. Does anybody know how to fix this problem. All the breaks do are nothing you can press down on the pedal and it doesn't do anything. Can anyone help me with my problem.?

If you got just a little WD-40 on it, it should wear off and cause no problems. With noraml brake use that is.  If you hosed it, just disassemble the affected parts(remove caliper and pads) and use a mild degreaser to clean and then reinstall it all. RIDE!

Use some kind of brake parts cleaner not degreaser. Degreaser will leaves a residue. Brake parts cleaner evaporates quickly and leaves no residue. No need for any dissassembly just spray it down really good.

yeah that is because you have hydraulic brakes and the pad material is different from the 1988-2002 blaster brakes.   [smiley=abduct2.gif] [smiley=abduct2.gif]

hydraulic brakes are the sh*t. i remember my 200s, i would change the shoes and it would last me one ride before going to crap. it was the old linkage type. i'm sure you old schoolers know what i'm talking about. you young kids dont know how good you got it.

take the f-ers off and sand them down. keep sanding until you feel confident that there is no pad left. they should work great after that. ;D
