Title: Quadscramble Jan. 12th
Post by: Chillinthemost on December 09, 2007, 07:33:24 PM
Looks like our race date is still on but we'll be back out at the Myakka property on sugarbowl road. I've raced there a bunch of times but it is always a fun piece of property with a little of everything.

It can be a little frustrating. Most have no idea how much it takes to make these races happen though. Land is hard to come by, it takes at least 500 acres to hold a race. Then you must try to convince the property owner why he would want to let 500 to 1000 strangers tear the hell out of his land. Then you sometimes have to fight with the county or city for a permit for the event. Only after you get those issues behind you do you get to cut 8 miles of trail by hand, line up food venders, ambulance, porta pots, and on and on. Then clean the whole mess up after everyone leaves.

You really have to appreciate what goes into make these events work. It well worth the $45 entry fee.

This will be my first race...and I just bought my quad used.  He's not sent me the title yet.  Will I be able to register with the FTR and race? I don't know exactly what all I need to register etc?
Thanks in advance,
Pat

its a quadscramble which is like a harescramble but most of the time there are no mx parts in the track its 2 hours long you do as many laps as you can, you need to be a member of FTR which you can go to floridatrailriders.org and give them a call or you can become a member at the event it is in myakka city which is south of the skyway bridge. if you go bring cash  because its 50 dollars to become a member with FTR an about 50 to enter the race plus 10 for parking and a transmiter is 20 its kinda expensive the first time out but other times is not that bad . come out its really really really fun and be prepared to have a huge addiction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to it...all I need is my kill switch to get here from Rocky Mt., get it put on, and find some red number plates.  If I have to, I'll make the plates!

No title needed.
 1. Money
 2. reliable bike
 3. kill switch
 4. spark arrester
 5. helmet and boots.
 6. proper number plates

   thats all you need

  highly recommend
 1. nerfs
 2. swinger skid
 3. chest protector
 4. camel pack

Get this first race behind you and then we'll talk about other mods. You can win the C class on a stock bike if you are good.
Also if you need anything or have any problems at the race look me up. I carry a lot of tools.  I drive a grey F-350 with a 24ft. white enclosed trailer  12B  Matt.  See you there.

If you can't get number plates, I have red plastic plates in my trailer that work just fine.

Pat

my local cycle gear carries white number plates with red vinyl decal sheets for the background, you can try them if you have one nearby, or you can always use red plastic throw-away plates and cut to size.  i went to michaels arts and crafts and was able by sheets of white and black vinyl letters/numbers.  I may have whatever numbers you need, but I don't think I have red background

Chillin, you da man...I'll be parked next to Chillin at the race if he still loves me :-* :D

We may be in Pt Charlotte this weekend.  I am buying Tony Pitts XC bike tomorrow, so I'd like to get some ride time this weekend/see how it runs.  Let me know if you go somewhere.  Can't wait for this race, especially with the cooler weather...

Hope the boys are healing...you sure are proud of that there procedure, I hope you don't try to show it to me.  My wife wants me to do the same thing, so DO NOT talk to her about it or I won't love you anymore

Ouch!! on the "procedure!!"

Hey guys and gals
here is the flyer for this QS event.
http://floridatrailriders.org/flyer/08_season/SADRA_QS_011208.pdf (http://floridatrailriders.org/flyer/08_season/SADRA_QS_011208.pdf)

It is going to be fun. Be prepared to be tired if this is your first ride since the last QS at Hard Rock.
If you want a warm up this weekend before here is a HS race to do just that!
http://floridatrailriders.org/flyer/08_season/SWFTR_010608.pdf (http://floridatrailriders.org/flyer/08_season/SWFTR_010608.pdf)
Then! there is ANOTHER HS race the following weekend in Brooksville!
http://floridatrailriders.org/flyer/08_season/Suncoast_012008.pdf (http://floridatrailriders.org/flyer/08_season/Suncoast_012008.pdf)

Check the FTR HOME PAGE for races/ages/dates The QS and the HS are different classes and the HS has NO YOUTH OR PEE-WEE.
Don't stop - git' it - git' it!

Matt, you got no balls anymore???  Man, I might actually be able to catch up to you now??!! ;D ;D ;D

In all seriousness that doesn't sound like fun.  Hope you're all healed up and ready to do some racing.

As far as the water crossing they aren't bad.  They aren't deep enough to drown out a bike, the one that could, has a cool crossing.

the deeper the better i like a challenge, what would be sweet if there was a pretty shallow rock river and you hd to ride up stream for a bit of the course now that would be tizight O0

From the FTR Website

Myakka City, here we come!! This race is going to be fun!!

Well, there hasn't been a lot of time, but there sure has been a lot of work done to give you guys and gals a little something new out there. It wasn't easy, but we have managed to find some cool new stuff for you all to enjoy. There are some areas that could have used a little rain to hold down the dust, but then we would have lost some prime real estate.

Pee Wees will be getting a bit more of a "woods" race. In some areas, they're going to have to slow down to go faster! They have had some pretty wide open stuff lately, I think they will enjoy the change.

I also want to remind everyone that while we have made new trails, they do cross, merge and run parallel with old ones that run completely different from this track. REMEMBER THAT PRACTICE IS TO GET FAMILIAR WITH THE TRACK!!! Take this time to FOLLOOOW THE ARROWS, not the ground!!! The course is very well marked, there should be no problems.

Yes, the creek jump will be back with the bridge by-pass, at the other end of the creek, you can cross through the water, or a drier "rocky" alternative.

The "big bridge" isn't being used this time, instead we are going to have it open for pedestrians to access a nice, cool spectator area. To all of you that like to watch your riders come through, we've slowed them down a bit through this area, and it will not be without excitement!!

At a little over 6 miles, the course is a little shorter than usual, but it has a lot to offer!!

Also, Friday evening the Myakka church group will be hosting a spaghetti dinner, and food all day Saturday as well. Let's keep them coming back, and show them some support!!

Drive safe everyone, and we'll see you Saturday!!!

Okay, I have my quad back together and ready to race.  >:D I hope she stays together! LOL!

We are outta' here at 6pm tonight and should roll in around 9-11pm depending on dinner arrangements.
I hope you decide to come. I think you'll regret it come Sunday if you don't.

I took 2nd behind Shawn Platt. Lousy start on my part. Worked hard for that 2nd and had a blast!!

I must say that this was the funnest race for me this season. I have only been riding quads for less than a year, and I ride in the +30c class with some very good riders. I was in 3rd place on the start and finished 10th, my best finish this season. Usually I just worry I am not in somebody's way. I can't thank everyone enough who takes the time to put these scrambles together and allows us to express our competitive spirit at such a well organized event.

Thanks, Mike McCutcheon 44C see you at the next one.

Here is a link to all the vids I took. Not the greatest as it is the video feature on my little digital camera.
First is the youth starts then there is the 1:30 starts. The batteries went dead during the 1:30 starts so I don't know what classes I got. I reloaded, but I know a class got by me.

well my kids ran their first FTR race this past weekend... i like the fact that they have different classes that are more age appropriate and skill level.. there was alot of kids there...i tried to register on ther FTR forum so i could make some suggestions , especially since one of the members on there said the race(peewee)and start went perfect and the track was great.. ok, the start..my daughter(and others) couldnt hear the siren on the bull horn.. might i suggest an air horn from boaters world and a red flag since a couple of the kids jumped the start??.. i liked the tight trails but there was NO place to pass so it was "follow the leader".. im not suggesting a parking lot with cones as someone put it.. but mix it up..and since these kids only have a few inches of clearance, id stay away from the palmettos.. during the race, there was a kid stuck in the palmettos just after the start,(where they all got stuck)and my daughter was behind them.. the track worker was working his aZZ off keeping these kids moving, but a kid that was behind my daughter, yelled "OH WHAT NOW!!" so i know that some of them was getting flustraded.. there is alot of work that goes into these races and id like to see it grow..thats why im making these suggestions... thanks FTR for putting it on

I would suggest joining a local club and volunteer and help make the next Pee-Wee course.  ;)
All the clubs need help. It is ALL volunteer. Get involved to help make it a better series. The only people who get paid are the people at the sign up trailer and DG. Everyone else does the best they can for nothing.
That event wasn't even supposed to be there. Thanks to a few different clubs that pulled together, it went as scheduled.
To write on the FTR forums you have to be a current member.
Sorry your child had a rough time. Hopefully next race wil be better. Although I hear it is going to be at the same property. This would be a PERFECT time to step up and volunteer for the pee wees
Hosting club is CFQR and they NEED help.

FTR member #...8-57554j and 8-57553j ;).. there was workers(volunteers) from the local club that i belong to(a big reason to try this race) that was there to help and did help my daughter when she hit a tree and the handlebar hit her hard under the chest protector.. she has a good size bruise and a torn jersey but thanks to the EMS, track workers, and our local doctor, she is fine... i would LOVE to help out.. PM me and ill be more than happy to to provide you with e-mail,cell ph#, and hm# to contact me when to help at the next local race.. i knew there would be a few rocks thrown my way for even making suggestions, but since this was a FTR thread and i was unable to post in the FTR forum, thats why i post my thoughts here... like i said, there was a post on there that said everything was PERFECT.. no..no it wasnt PERFECT(from my observation) and here was my suggestions to make it better.. i hate it when someone complains but have no other, or better ideas.. but if you re-read my post, you will see what i did like and THANKED the hard work that everyone(FTR and local clubs) did.. mudnuri, i liked where the race was held and thank you for your concern for my child, but without ideas and suggestions from participants, things wont get better... im looking forward to wearing an orange vest at the next race...jetski

Aww Buddy, I'm not throwing rocks at you LOL!  I agree with you.
Without suggestions and new ideas we could never grow.
I'll send you some info as soon as I know the details for the next event.
