Title: polaris tranny problems!! Post by: cr1 on November 26, 2007, 03:12:00 PM 02 sportsman 400 - has anyone replaced the chain in the tranny ? major project ? does the tranny have to be removed from the frame or can the work be done still in frame?

Post by: cr1 on November 26, 2007, 04:01:22 PM the repair manual talks about the chain streching and having to be replaced.when mine is in gear and you begin to give it gas you can hear a kinda snapping sound from that side of the tranny and to me it sounds like the chain jumping teeth on the sprocket. i am not positve thats what it is until i tear into it

Post by: SCRAMBLER on December 12, 2007, 04:20:21 PM I have a 2000 scrambler and I had to take apart my transmission due to the chain breaking and wrapping around the front sprocket and knocking a baseball size hole in the side case of the transmission case,mine didn't have a chain inside the tranny just all gears.

Title: Re: polaris tranny problems!! Post by: PREDOCROSS on December 13, 2007, 06:04:44 AM The transmission has to be removed from the chassis to be split open. The chain allows the tranny to go into reverse. Don't attempt unless you are mechanically inclined and have a shop manual. If you are mechanically inclined its fairly simple, just a pain in the Polaris ;). I did it on one of my Trailblazers. Be sure your transmission is aligned correctly when you put it back in the chassis. Good Luck.
