Title: Racing @ Hendry Co. Speedway
Post by: 450R_Matt on March 04, 2004, 05:00:49 PM
Honda's showed the way around the 3/8th mile track sat. night. The #5 took the feature win!!! That racer can realy get around the track when mechanical probles dont accure. But that can happen on any givin night. Especiely on 1/17/04. Dont know what happen to Mr. banchee. Mabe will see him next race.

I was there too. the hondas just seem to handle better through the corners. There were 2 banshees and they were fast in a straightaway but on 2 wheels around the corners and then slide outsideways. wicked donuts at the end by #5! hey fast 250r its a 3/8 mile track and the yamaha should be spelled bancheez

Your right the #5 honda looked great in the corners from where i was LOL Not to often you see a quad rip donuts with the front tires off the ground. Looked like that cowboy was on a 8 sec ride.

Hey blues I have a set of tires but if your bike is not lowered and i don't mean tied down w/straps you wont be to safe. Everyone spins out sooner or later and at 50+ miles per hour you don't want to highside. If you are seriously wanting to try it come out and check us out we race 2nd and 4th sat. every month.

The Joe Lynch bike was NOT driven by
Bansheeking84 ( Joe Lynch ) it was Tim the
owner of the bike. I  built that bike..
I wasn't at the race or the out come would have
been different. I won't be there this weekend I am
busy buildin bikes. But don't worry I'll get the bike
back together and Tim will be out there racin again soon.

400ex this is a 3/8 mile circle track We average about 10 quads every race. The cars race out there every week we race 2nd and 4th week of the mo. Real fast 50+ mph . As it stands there is just one class and there is a 400ex racing with us.  Were racing this sat. night come and check it out.

3/13/04   Another action packed night of circle track racing!!! Great bike turn out.  5 ,  250R's , 3 Banshee's , 1 400ex , 1 Predator. The track was rough but that didn't slow anybody down. The heat race was plenty of action. 4 of the fastest bikes had to start in the 2nd row. The #7a Banshee got the hole shot but by turn 3 the #17 banshee took the lead and never looked back. The #5 and the #18 honda's came from the back to take the 2nd and 3rd position. That set up the start for the main.  The #17 banshee got the hole shot in the main followed by the #25 and the #18. But it was the Honda #18 quad that took the lead at lap 10 and went on to win.  :)2nd went to the #17 banshee and the #25 Honda finished 3rd.

Hay tecatemike, 2fast4u and a few others ran @ Thundercross a few years ago. Its probly the insurance co. that won't alow because of the high risk. They still have moto-x but no flat track.

Title: Re: racing @ Hendry Co. Speedway
Post by: 2fast4u on March 15, 2004, 07:29:37 PM
we raced @ thundercross back in 2000. it was a fun track hard on tires and hard to hang on it was almost a TT track with jumps in it. but a few injuries and the track became unreceptive to us. then they asked us to pay for an ambulance to park @ the track when we were there.that was more than our class total payout and we shelved our lowering kits for a few years. I think the track has had several new owners since then but it is a very busy track and now they only run every other week.i don't think there would be much chance of me driving past hendry to race on a bumpy busy track another hour away. Post by: 17_UP_FRONT on March 16, 2004, 07:15:59 AM
PUSHING A HONDA IS COMMON. RIDDING A BANSHEE IS KIND OF CHEEZ SMOOTH HANDLING & HARD TO GET AROUND. AND I DON’T MIND TAKING MONEY FROM A UNFORTUNATE HONDA OWNER IT HELPS PAY FOR THE TIRES A BASHEE CAN EAT UP BECAUSE THAT’S THE ONLY THINGS YOU NEED TO KEEP A BANSHEE GOING. NOT HEAD GASKETS BASE GASKETS SUSPENSION PARTS EVERY RACE OR RIDE. KIND OF GOES BACK TO THAT PUSHING STATEMENT. TRUTH HURT? [smiley=Nuke.gif] [smiley=BigSmile.gif]

DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO THE #17 BANSHEE.
Victory lane has lost another banshee. It was a good quad but on a cool dark night of 3/13/04 no one could help him. It seems he choked on a Honda 250r. Others tried and still there was no saving the 1st place finish. [smiley=Cry.gif]

Hay Mike, Where all great friends from Naples with exception to a few new guys. Look forward to getting another quad to join in. It may be a little exspensive at first but well worth it. Where all out to have fun and go home with out any broken bones. ;)    All most all have a faimly to support. If we can get enough quads mabe we can have A and B class or Main's. See on 3/27/04.

lets be careful there tecate mike . we encourage the idea of more riders as long as they understand that this is a event that requires skill and a level head . a loose cannon on the track can and has proven to be a hazard to themselves as well as to fellow racers. competion is an incredable rush but hospitalization is a bummer . we all want to drive home after the race ,not be driven somewhere else by somebody else.now that i have said that ,lets get to the track ,drop the flag and turn left to the fourth power. I don't want to send out the wrong message so let me say first there is no rush like circle track on these quads. I have watched two different guys hit the wall and get carried off the track and one that broke his collar bone entering the pits at thunder cross. I personally hit the wall coming out of turn 2  a month ago. I tumbled down the straightaway at 45 mph in practice. ive seen guys spin out and get hit head on and ive been hit head on.ive won races that i shouldn't have and ive lost races i should have won. I would not trade my flat track bike for a full mx sponsored  ride. It takes a speacial breed to enjoy this sport and we have some really clean tight racing at our track and i thank all involved. P.S. catch me if you can I'll be racing my a$$ of on the 27th! :P ;) ;D

Post by: no.9_no.9_no.9 on March 18, 2004, 07:43:04 PM
tecatemike ,you may have misunderstood or i may have said it wrong, all i am concerned about is safe ,fun ,competative racing, in the past we have had a few riders over ride their ability the first night out trying to show their friends that they are better than the others, but wind up kissing concrete. we want more riders,we need more riders, but we dont want to end up being uninvited as in the past at a previous track do to accidents and injuries such as one of my own upside down still on the seat inturn 2 flying through the air. lets ride smart safe and then wide open

Title: Re: racing @ Hendry Co. Speedway

i was just jokin around no9 actually im gettin to old to be hot doggin it ,when i say get more people im just lookin at florida as a whole there is no tt or short track series for quads i think it would be cool to spread the sport across the state
i always liked flat track and when i saw all you guys racing last saturday looked like it was competative and all in good fun i talked to a few of you after the race and you were all informative and a good group of guys  looks like i found some racin to be part of

i dont think it would be a bad idea to throw some pictures and maybe a short video on the site.It would show what we're all about at HCS,even if it did attract more riders to the track.Someone at the track always techs the bike and the rider before each race to decide whether or not they can race.Remember a rookie is a rookie because he does not know how to race.they can only get better with laps, and if that does not prove to be the case then they should be shoved off the track.  [smiley=Approve.gif]

right i mean im a rookie and i dont plan on trying to be competative with front runners until i get the hang of it all and some time in if i come in dead last it wont bother me a bit ill get there   i know wh at you guys are saying though not all people think like i do some guys are gonna go out there and try and take first place the first time they ride
but if we can get enough riders you could have classes no?

I couldn't remember if i put my air filter sock on before the race so i took my rear fenders off during the first heat the sock was there but i couldn't get the fenders back on before we hit turn 3 tough race had to fight off no.9 for 4th. ifound out the hard way they do give out a trophy for 3rd. 2nd on holeshot ran 25 clean off the track on the backstretch :o (sorry bout that billy) ;D i don't think 17 is real comfotable though. The only bike to ever beat him is a 250r. the first race he was in a 250r stole really stole his first win. Charlie abbott caused his scariest race moment with a superman just missing turn2 wall(head on with a 250r)and now 1 banshee in the top 5 yamaha ought to be proud of 17 he hauls ass glad he dont have a honda. :-/

OK, Here is the deal. I need some input. I will be racing this summer, at HCS. What kind of set-up am I looking for to compete? I don't want all the secrets, just the basics. I race harescrambles all over the state in the FTR series. I have a few of the racers from that series that are interested in trying this over the summer. I will probably be the trial person for this. I have a spare bike and can do what I wish with it. I have a banshee that has been ported, polished, decked and a number of other things as well. I think I have enough engine and enough pilot. I just need some instruction on what toys to add to the bike. Any info would be of great help. I am out of town for a couple more weeks and will ride in Chipley, FL this weekend for an FTR race. We only have one more after that down on the Indian Reservation, past Naples on May 8th. I would like to be ready for racing at HCS after that race is finished. Please give me a little insite for set-up.

Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,
What your gonna wanna do to get that Banshee ready to race is first take off the gas cap. Then slide a 250r up underneath it, go ahead and screw the gas cap back on and you'll be good to go.
Seriously though, lower it, stagger the tires, sway bar, nerfs and a kill switch should get ya ready

Racers if you want to no the rules there at hendrycospeedway.com  look in the message fourm under (not just any old quad)and if you dont get the track rules right there will be no racing that night. No more exceptions. If you want to be compettive listen to (xatvs)under his serious remarks.

8)Here’s a little story of a night not long ago, 4/10/04 if you really didn’t know. With the luck of the pills the Hondas got there thrills :-X the start of the night was a really good battle  [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]with the HONDA line up all up front. But not to long do they keep clear sight because now a real bike earns a front spot [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]. Off the start of the main BANSHEE let them know [smiley=Cool.gif] its going to take work to get through the door. First one tries to bump me off just to put himself back in fifth spot [smiley=Shocked.gif] then my tail tried to shorten the track just to join the rest of the pack [smiley=Wacko.gif]. When the yellow came out because of a seized lung once again we form a line as 1 ???. Down low I know but up high they try out the corner of my eye I know at any time they could also show that it’s not over till its over & it’s not just a show. But with only two laps to go one thing I know is we all ride like there the last 2 laps we will ever go :P. Long night as it was. And as if you really didn’t already know BANSHEE was the one who went to VICTORY LANE ;D and left the rest looking for (MORE) as rumor has it ???. So if a BANSHEE gas cap will make you’re “R” faster than I HIGHLY recommend it to all R’s. [smiley=Approve.gif] But what they don’t really know would really surprise them ???.
One thing for sure great racing to all Saturday night! [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]

Well put 17.  I will be adding another Banshee to the chase in a short time. I may not be in the front with you but I should do pretty well once I get tooned in to the track. It will be different racing without the tree's and 3 foot deep whoops to contend with. Smooth surface, what's that all about. It should be fun. After all is said and done it is nice to win but if not to be able to race again. A bad day of racing is still way better than a good day working!

As 17 stated we are all best of friends and I wouldn't talk any trash about them if they weren't. We hold quite alot of respect for each other. We all have to count on each other to race clean & safe. We have a great place to race and I wouldn't want anything close to what happened at 8 seconds to ruin our awesome good time. We may sound like bad guys fighting all the time to people who read this thread. In all reality I would do anything to keep everyone at our track racing every lap. I hit the wall and #18 lent me a wheel #9 helped me change it and #17's Buddy helped out with fixing some other stuff that got banged up when I flipped. I finished 2nd that night. So don't let the trash get to deep in your mind. It's all about having a really good time going fast and turning left!
P.S. banshee's still suck pond water, but then I drive a steam powered 295R. :-/

Got my first ride on a 450R :oHonda finally stepped up and made a fun bike with gobbs of horsepower and traction. Yes traction. With just an LRD complete pipe and K&N filter it went from a 118 main to a 195. Really woke this bike up! I put on a set of American racers no lowering kit or sway bar and won both races in the 4 stroke class. It pulls better off the corner than any bike I have ridden on that track. I beat a set of highly modified well set up 4 strokes includig predator 400EX and Raptor. Thanks to 1fast250R for lending his tires and also todd for letting me test out his brand new 450R. I would like to ride the YFZ 450 to see if it hooks up as well. I hear they have a fast motor but can they put it down to the track? I'm quite pleased with Honda's latest creation.

Looks like a few of my buddies and me will try to make the race on the 8th. Just to watch though. We will finish our race at 5 PM and if we are not to tired we will come and watch. If anyone has a few sets of tires for 400ex might be able to convince some of them to race. we will all have our gear and bikes in tow. Will probably be to tired though. Our race is 2 hours long and 50 to 60 miles of woods. 1 lap is around 12 miles and should take from 18 to 22 minuted to complete. Should run about 5 laps. I also need tires for my KFX if anyone has a set. I seem to be having a problem finding the offset rear tires.

That's the way the 2 stroke class ended up. My new found horsepower was of no use. It was a little slick in the practice and heat but it shaped up in the main. Don't forget the #45 400EX Jeremy has won all races except the ones I beat him with that 450R. He does a great job on that bike he will be even faster next time on his YFZ450!

Well guys looks like the shee is out of commision for awhile. Found out today that the right side crank bearing has exploded. The only notification I got was a little rattle at idle. opened the basket side and ball bearings fell out. I thought it was running very well. The carbs needed a little re jetting and that made a big differance. Updates to follow. The KFX isn't running either so I guess I will not make the next race. I have to leave town for a week on Monday and will be back on Friday so I will make the race as a spectator but not to race.

yes z-racer the american racer tire is the only tire you can run at hendry.the a.r. is pretty much the best tire for the track in all around conditions.you can vary in the hardness or softness of the tire, but thats it.the best place to get the tire, that I know of is nacs racing.maybe someone else can help me out on that though. :-/

Title: Re: racing @ Hendry Co. Speedway
Post by: 450R_Matt on May 26, 2004, 06:59:21 PM
The American Racer is the tire rule for the quads. This is the best tire for the track like the #25 said..There has been a couple of quads that have shown up with others like Hoosier but there is no exception. This is the one of the few rules we have. Bring the hp but have American racers. Also a little tip... Run a stagger set on the rear. Go fast! Turn left!

Thanks Guys,

I should have both bikes ready for the next race?????????? We shall see! Is too much HP going to hurt me on this track?? I am debating on going to the t-rex power valve 525 with the 10mm stroker.Do you think it will be too much for the track??

Title: Re: racing @ Hendry Co. Speedway
Post by: 450R_Matt on May 27, 2004, 09:11:04 PM
Z-Racer... The turns are getting alot of rubber on them after a few races each night. It makes for a 1 line race gruve. Tim on the #1 Banshee has had some truble latley getting the power to the ground. To much gas in the corner will make you spin out if you have a lot of HP.. Come out and see what happens. All the guys are cool and they will give you some inside on how to get around at HCS.   ;)

Title: Re: racing @ Hendry Co. Speedway

Don't forget we race every 2nd and 4th sat. nite. The next race is on June 12th. I think too much HP's is bad espeacially when you are trying to dial in your setup. Spend money on a sway bar, tires and +2 axle and A-arms would help also. You might also think about a shorter swingarm. The best tip anyone can give you is concentrate on the corners not the straights. Oh and never forget you can't catch the #5 ;D

Thanks for the input! I will try to remember not to catch # 5. I don't think I will catch anyone for a few weeks anyway. Need seat time.

If anybody is interested I have a full FT set-up for sale for a Honda. 4 Tires, on .190 rims, rear tires will need to be replaced soon. Fronts are like new. New Dura Blue SwayBar and lowering kit. Will run you about $800 new, will take $500. I also have a set of front works triple rates, if you are between 175-210lbs, they will really stiffen up your front end and resist corner roll. Those for $200. email me if interested xatvs@yahoo.com.

[smiley=Clap.gif]We are finally going to get a race in this time. June 26th is the next event. The June 12th rainout has been moved to the first available date which is July 31st. Racing will continue every 2nd and 4th week of each month with 2 weeks in a row at the end of July. I hope the track is good but i'm sure alot of water is going to make for a different race surface. Heard that it was bumpy last week. 50 lap Bomber race this weekend should be alot of cars from thundercross.(I better bring the camper that could take all night) I'm going to have to loose that pesky #25. I can't ride behind him because I can't see around that big ole head he's getting. At least the #17 gets up on 2 wheels so I can see past him. Whatever Happened to #18? I heard he took off all the race gear and retired to a slower vehicle. A Bomber car? Do those guys even have to wear helmets? I think it will be a good race so if you have big horsepower, big tires, A big wallet or just a big ass JUST BRING IT!!    JUST    BRING    IT!!

Its seems that no one remembers what the back of that thing looks like. #5 thinks its hard to see around #25 and he's just a little kid with a big dream.   [smiley=Wink.gif] this is what the #18 looks like [smiley=Hug.gif] hehehe

Circus, Damn it was like trying out for a MX race out there. Was great to mix it up with the fellow quad riders again. Sure hope the 7a is OK that was a nasty spill he took. I had a front row seat as to what happen. Well the heat race finished with #17-#5-#25-#18-#7 and the feature finished a little different. It was #5-#17 #25-#18-#45-#24-#7-#33-#55. Maybe next race we can get it in before midnight...LOL  Great job #5 on the win.

Well at least the HONDA riders were glad to see me win. I don't think there is a Yamaha rider around that likes me after Sat. nite. I hope 7a heels quickly. If the sport wasn't dangerous it wouldn't be all that fun would it? Now the 17 is a different story. I'm not looking for him to recover from this nite any time real soon. It has always been alot of fun racing against 17. Some weeks you watch him drive off like you may never catch him again. when you do beat him you can certainly feel like you were on top of your game that nite. Lets see I have been racing the 17 for 7 or 8 years at HCS. Why havn't I crashed him yet? Oh Ya cause he can drive. Somehow I feel the Cowboy is about to get a new nickname.

Hey #5 how bout Mr. spin-a-roonie or looper. :P... Its all good. Hey, do you think it would be a good idea to have the quad race first in line so the track is a little smoother and safer?

Post by: 17_UP_FRONT on July 01, 2004, 12:10:30 PM
[smiley=ThumbsDown.gif]  IT’S A DIRT TRACK IF YOU WANT SAFE SIT AT HOME AND PLAY PS2 OR SOMETHING. BUT DON’T TAKE A SHOWER BECAUSE YOU COULD SLIP AND FALL. NOTHING IS GARNETED SAFE THAT I KNOW OF ESPECIALLY ANY KIND OF RACING. DON’T GET ME WRONG I DO FEEL SORROW FOR WHAT HAPPENED THE OTHER NIGHT BUT AGAIN AS WE ALL SHOULD KNOW AS WE PULL OUT ONTO THE TRACK ITS SOMETHING THAT COULD HAPPEN @ ANYTIME TO ANY OF US. MAYBE YOU SHOULD KEEP IT IN FIRST GEAR IT MIGHT MAKE YOU FEEL “SAFER”

Well Mr. 17 all over the track when you run a quad race after a 50 lap bomber race at 12am it's no so fun. Challenging yes. All I was asking was some thoughts on that. Mabe you should keep it in first gear if you can't keep it stright..Just my $.02 :P

The new track owner welcomed us out for the meet and greet race and to let us know what the new plans for the dirt trac will be. Looks like it will be high banks and wider back strech and a full 3/8's mile. I think it will be 2 fast and 2 big for a quad class.   ???

Hey Matt did the new owner say there is a plan in place to have quad classes?

David,

He didnt say for sure. They are reworking the size of the track and putting more banking in. They should be done with it some time in November or December. I will keep you informed.  Lots of people think we are crazy for racing the way it was and now it will just be faster. Like 6th gear wfo. :o :o

Title: Re: Racing @ Hendry Co. Speedway (Meet and Greet race)
Post by: HillKiller on September 14, 2005, 12:13:44 PM
I looked at the pic of the track on their website...it's real big. Those straits are real long so yeah I can see being in 6th gear alot. My initial thought is I'd be running some real tall gears so the motor would keep pulling. I don't think the speed scares me so much (unless I crashed) since we are already hitting near 60mph at Dade City. Keep posting any new news.
This may be a stupid question but what is wfo? :K

The new owner has told me that Quads will not be welcome for racing on the new track. It was fun wile it lasted.

That's O.K. Matt,

I have only raced a 3/8 mile sized track twice. (Greenville,S.C. and Swainsboro,Ga) Those tracks SUCK anyways. You are haulling WAY too much butt and people die when things go wrong (Chad Snipes Killed Jun 20, 1999). This was the reason I retired until March 18th of this year. It upset me so bad I couldn't race anymore.
