Post by: predatorracer8 on October 11, 2007, 02:37:34 PM
never been out there before . i was wondering if it was completely necessary to have a gps. or is it that big that you can just keep track in your head? and is anybody planning to go out there this weekend i probably will be out there.

Everyone that asks this is told the samething, GPS is a must if you can afford it.  Its easy to get lost because its so big.  I've never been there but everyone gives the same answer.

A lot of the trails near BS were not marked 6 months ago.(last time i was there)
There are a lot of trails off the power lines that you can keep making lefts or rights and get back to the general area you started.
The "official" trails are pretty well marked. If you get "off trail" everything looks the same.

I would defintely bring a GPS if it's your first time out there and you like to venture back into the wilderness (which I highly reccomend). It's a beautiful place.

However, if you're not familiar with the area, it's smart to bring a GPS so you can deep into the trails and get off all the heavily whooped out sections.

It's nice to have that piece of mind in your pocket that tells you how to get back to camp especially when you're riding near sundown and your low on fuel.

Make sure you stay off the numbered roads and ride on the side of the power lines that are closest to the forest or they'll give you a ticket.

Have fun.
