Title: Share the world
Post by: FordForever on October 07, 2007, 02:05:30 PM
Just my thoughts on the system and the legalities of ATVs and ... our equestrian 'animal's. For the record I own and ride both ATVs and horses.

The world belongs to everyone and its here for everyone share and enjoy...But this doesn't seem to be true for our community. Horses, a wild animal, to which you can never claim to have full control of are free to ride and its a federal offense if you do not do everything in your power as a motorists to prevent the animal in control by the rider or not from killing someone. Which in many cases means slowing or even stopping to prevent 'spooking' the animal. This is legal and these animals are not considered any kind of risk at all. The rider is not required to be trained nor do they require an age limit. In the hands of a professional these animals are still unpredictable and dangerous.

It is agreed that in the wrong hands an ATV is often deadly due to ignorance but at any point in time the ATV can just be turned off. No spook, no instincts and the machine makes no decisions by its self. I was just written another ticket and as I sat there a group of horse riders rode by...the same group to which a few minutes earlier I had stopped and turn my engine off to let them pass by. They thanked me and I started up after they were clear. They had turned around and were heading home when they rode by they said nothing they didn't even look my direction.

The ticket does not bother me at all I consider it my riding fee what does bother me is the system. I work hard every day all day and my hobby is illegal. I get treated like a criminal and harassed. The police offer talks down to me and pulls up his belt line like hes doing the community a favor.

Idle hands ARE the devils handy work. Its a good thing the officer was around to ticket me, I am a wild nut and a danger to society.  ::)

I appreciate your ideology, but here's the problem...

You live in America which is a republic. That republic has a branch of government known as the legislative branch. That branch has been around for over 200 years. In that 200 years, they conveine each and every year to make laws. Originally, they met to make laws that were necessary to protect the freedoms of the civilians of this nation. However, as time went on, and all the IMPORTANT laws were made, they could not just sit idlely by and do nothing. I(If that were the case, there would be no need for that branch) So they had to work to come up with new laws. Those new laws were brought into being irregardless of wether or not they infringe on your personal freedoms. The sad part is that in this Representative government, the laws that effect you and your every day life are instituted by people who have never met you, yet they believe they know what's best for you. Your freedom shrinks every day that the legislative branch is in session. They're making new laws as we speak, and they'll be making new laws in the future on a continual basis.

The trick is, they convince the minions that they live in a "FREE" country while they continue to work aggressively to inhibit you freedom.

So, get use to the idea of not being able to ride your ATV where you want, nor go horseback riding freely.

"America, she ain't as free as she use to be!"

Thats very true and a great point...My post argued that I can ride the horse almost everywhere I would like to around here and the ATV has to sit in the garage. And I personally feel that I am more of a risk to myself and everyone around me being on a wild animal rather than the ATV.

You are only as free as your wallet can get you...
