Title: HID's for a 05 F350
Post by: snowmanzz13 on September 25, 2007, 06:49:14 PM
my friend is offering me a deal on some HID's for my truck, and i was wondering if anyone deals with them on this site, or who has bought them and do you like them and how much did you pay for the set up?

HIDs are ALOT better than regular headlights.  I have driven cars with them and wow, it does make a difference.  The only thing you need to make sure of is that you angle them down pretty good, cause if you dont the drivers on the opposite side of the road are blinded.

Cost really depends on who makes them and how bright they are (K).  I just looked up a McCulloch 3000K single beam setup, and they had it set at 399.99.  But McCulloch is a good quality brand so thats why they are up their in price.  Another identical setup I looked up was 199.99.  Really gotta go by model.

FYI if you do want HIDS, get a 8000-10000k setup.  Anything over 10k is purple and you dont wanna look like a fag (http://www.goldtalk.com/forum/images/smilies/gtsmilies/gay.gif)

My cousin had HID's in his F250 & they were melting the harness where they plugged in. Nothing like going down the highway at night & your lights shut off. IMHO, they are just for looks. Waste of money. Maybe if you drove the autobahn in Germany & went over 100mph all the time they would be useful.

I have never seen that happen before.  Are you sure he installed them correctly? lol

when this happened, he took it to FORD & the service writer asked if he had hid lights & he said yes. the service writer walked out & popped the hood & showed him why he should get rid of them. It wasnt warranty beleive me. the plugs on the harnesses were melting & he had to replace the bulbs & harness plugs. No more problems or HID's. If you change the bulbs, you must change the plugs. Regular lights dont burn so hot therefore the plugs are not made to withstand the heat. Just my .02c.  They do look cool, but I wouldnt want to be stuck at Holeylands with this issue or by morning you may require a blood transfusion from the skeeters sucking on ya.

its not about your type of car. its about your bulb type.

take ur bulb out and read the bulb model printed on the side. then just look for a HID kit with that bulb type.i think that its probably 9006 or 9007. but im not positive.check out ur car and find out.

EDIT:
look wat i found.

so now that we know its 9007. go on eBay or osmething and look for   9007 HID kit.
and look for whatever kelvin it is you want , and make sure its the one that has High AND low beam in one bulb , because ur car only uses one bulb for high and low. lol.

my explorer was 9007 , and i bought a regular 9007 HID kit , so all i had was a low beam, when i would try to engage high beams , they would just shut off , so keep that in mind and hope it helps.

all u need is the ballast, wiring harness, and the bulb.
if it says it brings all that then ur set.

its plug n play. you take off ur old bulb. plug it into the new endcap , that endcap runs a wire to the ballast , and then the ballast runs a wire to the hid bulb , which you put into your headlamp . easy installation.

greenmachine is right. They can cause problems, especially if you have plastic light housings. I have seen them burn through housings and also melt wiring. Stock vehicle are not designed for HID lights. High Quality Conversions are expensive. There is a reason they are $700+ option on new cars. It's like anything else, you get what you pay for.

People that are melting everything are just using high wattage bulbs. HID bulbs use less wattage and run cooler. My Mc cullough kit was $300 and bought it almost 3 years ago without one problem and I use them alll the time. I have the 5000k bulbs. Factory HID's are 4300k . The higher the kelvin rating the bluer they are and less light they will produce which is defeating the purpose of them.  The 8000k and up bulbs are more for looks and the blue light is also more blinding to oncoming traffic. The only reason you see the BMW's and such with the purple color is because of the reflectors on the projector light fixtures. Mine are on a 05 f250

its not going to. it usually wont. but youre still taking the risk.

but i have had HID's on every car of mine , and they were the cheap ones i got on eBay , and they bright up awesome  , better than my high beams , and i adjusted the aim of my light so that there is a cutoff , so it doesnt blind other people.

these are my 8000k HID's on my accord. theyre the bluish ones. they look light blue if you look into them , but they light up WHITE.my high beams are yellow/gold but thats my stock lighting with painted housing so dont mind that.

and these: are 10,000k. theyre alot bluer than the 8,000k's
here they were on my old explorer

they didnt light up too much,  but it was an improvement over stock.
and these were in a foggy lensed housing , so it really wasnt giving as much light as it could have.
the 8,000k's light up WAY more.
just like 6000k's will light up way more than 8000k's , and so on..
