MIKE is trying to organize a rodman dam clean up ride and i say we all sign up here to show our support and let mike know how many of us are willing to help so he can plan the event.

Like my wife said If I am not on call then count us in for 3 for the clean-up. This would show our daughter that we need to keep our riding areas clean so everyone can enjoy it along with us

If it's a weekend that I can make it...I'm in and will probably get several others in as well.  
a good thing to get for this ride would be those little trash pickers...the long poles with the claw at the end..or a froggin pole (long pole with stabber at end of it)  spare your back and legs, let the poles do the work while you ride.  ;D

Get a date and if I am free, we have at least 2 quads in. My Brute Force can haul the trailer.

I would be up for it also, just need to know when. I would need to make arrangements in my schedule. I could bring my dump truck for the trash. Is there a dump close ? Is it open on the weekends ? Will the rangers provide a dumpster ? Just some questions that we could find the answers to nbefore we go.

I have e-mailed Marla Pence thanking her for the help and cooperation this past weekend and asked her to help me set up a clean up day on Saturday feb 19th. (pres day weekend). I will fill you in when I hear back.

I think that is a great idea to schedule it as soon as posible to show that we care about the forest, this will give us great PR. I also think that the date is good too because the kids are off from school on monday and this will give us a 3 day weekend. Last but not least I can't wait for April 21st It's to far away.

because he's addicted. I've heard that his wife goes outside sometimes and finds Grizz just sitting on his quad in the back yard with a big smile on his face.  :D

What if we do the clean ups the day before the group rides ? I showed up on Friday and so did a few others . Make a special ATVFLORIDA sticker that says something like " Atv Florida.com Caretakers of the woods " That you can only get by participating . No $ for the stickers at all , you have to earn them . We could possibly get the forest service donate the funds for the stickers , it would be in their best interest . Or simply elevate the member status of those who help .Without having to look at all the smileys .

 My name  is Mike Lumsden and we met on Friday 1/21 at a riding spot off of 88 and 314. I am one of the moderators on atvflorida.com. I wanted to e-mail you and let you know how much of a good time everyone had this past weekend. A few of us have been talking about spending a day in the forest cleaning up. There's a lot of us with utility quads that can pull garbage and other larger items out of the woods.Someone started a post on the website and there's already several people that want to help keep our forest clean.Possibly the county could bring out a dumpster for us to fill. We were thinking Saturday feb 19th would be a good day. Can you let me know how to set something like this up?

I also wanted to thank you for your support and guidance this past weekend. I think that for as many people that were there it went pretty smoothly. As you and I had said on Friday there are always a few bad apples in a group but 99% of us are families that just want to have a relaxing weekend in the woods.I would like to hear feedback from you on how you think things went.

Thanks for writing, Mike.  You're right.  All that I have spoken with from
this side felt your event went quite well, for the most part.  I have to
tell you how pleased I was to see the group waiting at a travelway and 316
to flag down a forest service vehicle to tell them how to legally get to
where they were trying to go.

We did find one area near where you were parked Friday on 88 near 316 that
was a seedling area.  It was clearly marked as restricted from motorized
vehicle use, and next to the signs you could see where they rode into it.  
If you can communicate to your members that those are the sort of things
that will end up closing this forest, I'd appreciate it.  I'm not pointing
my finger at your group, but logic would tell me perhaps some of your Friday
riders had a part in it!

As far as the Rodman cleanup, please contact the Lake George Ranger District
at 17147 E. Hwy 40, Silver Springs, FL 34488, telephone 352/625-2520 and
inquire about the ability to provide a dumpster at the Rodman area.  If they
can't do it, perhaps they can direct you to the appropriate organization, or
make other arrangements for a trash pickup.  Please also advise the folks at
the Greenways of any activities you may plan at the dam area. I don't have
their contact information in hand, but will forward that to you as soon as I
get it.

Wow!  What a ride!!!!!

I can comment about the seedling area.

I know it well and used to have fun in that little track there, if you hit it right(back in the days) you could actually get some air.  I don't remember when, but in the last year or two, it was posted as a seedling area.  I have stayed away from it, but I have seen many times some of the local kids from my neighborhood run around in it.

I doubt anyone from this site was playing in it because it is so well marked and we were being watched so carefully.

There is another area just like this that is an old sinkhole about 20 feet deep and about 1 mile from the campgrounds on 88 that was posted about a year ago as a seedling area.  I would suggest to the forestry service that if some place is to be marked as a seedling area,,,,plant some seedlings, because I have walked that area a few times and found no sign of anything growing in the soft sugar-sand.

Marla, if you are reading this, rest assured, I ride out there a lot and the tire-marks you found in the "seedling" area off of 88 was not from us.

If work allows I'm in. I can pull a trailer but mine is too big, if somebody has a 4x8 I can get it through the trails. What area will we concentrate on or will we split into groups and hit several areas?

I just spoke to the Lake George ranger station and they thought it was a great idea. The gentleman that I spoke with his going to run it past his supervisor and make sure that the weekend of 2/19 is ok. We need to start a sign up list so they have an idea of how many are coming.
Grizz can you do one like the  Rodman list?

Feb 19 is a good day for me as of right now, and I will be there if nothing changes.

Maybe the sport bikes like mine could tie a plastic bag in the bars and use a broom handle with a nail in the end to pick up trash. Or large items we can tow them out to a road for pick up.

I think this is a greal idea and real god for the sport and the site.

Small problem.
I really want to be there for this cleanup, Especially since I'm setting it all up with the Rangers and the Florida cross Greenways group.
The problem is I can't go on the weekend of Feb 19th. I was just reminded by the Mrs. that I have our sons Boy Scout camping trip that weekend. If everyone is dead set on that weekend then I will still set it up but I won't be able to make it.

I say move it to a Sat that Mike can make it. This is his baby and I think he should be able to see it to the end. Mike pick another day and I will be there, if not needed at work.

Sounds like a real good deed!!!  I would love to come plus I think that I could bring a friend or two with!  as long as it is on a weekend! and of coarse the sooner every one can set a date the better!

I need feed back from more than 2-3 people. Is it alright if we move it to the 26th? I'll be talking to the ranger station on Monday.

As of right now any date is good with me. Just depends on work. Lets get picking up and rideing. I am going to make me a pickup pole out of an old paint roller pole.  [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]

What is nice about President weekend is that we could clean up on Sat and then get to ride on sunday because monday there is no school and we would not have to leave until monday. I like Mike very much, and I am very sad that he can't make it, but I dont feel that because he can't make it we should postpone the whole cleanup for another and shorter weekend. So if anyone is with me I will be leaving friday night and staying until Monday afternoon. On the ride I will be pulling a small trailer behind me for the bulk garbage.

I may be able to make this ride...if it is on the Presidents weekend. Us South riders have a long journey to go to Ocala, so it would be nice to use the long weekend to make it a great weekend. otherwise it is a hardship. We want to clean up, but we want a long weekend to have fun with y'all. I'll pick up an extra can/bottle for you Mike.... ;D

Ok, then I guess I'll set it up for the 19th. I'll just have to try and make the next one.
Keep in mind that the 19th might not be good for the Lake George ranger station. I'll finid out for sure on Monday

I called Elite earlier and they said no cabins were open on those dates.  That is a four day weekend for us so we are going to go but we don't need a cabin.  If there is a clean up count on us being there.

We like the weekend of the 19th, since the weekend of the 26th, that Saturday we are going to the Monster Truck show in Jacksonville.  We can't ride that day and then make it to Jacksonville to see the show.

set a date,  if you talk to the ranger and we need to do more the just gather it up and leave bags somewhere, I will come up with my trailer empty, we can load it on and I will take it to the Marion County dump.  As a resident I do not have to pay.

im going to stick my neck out here and make a bold statement................

we had 200 plus riders at the group ride and we cant even get half that to help clean up ??? if we are to make an impression we need to come correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fair enough! but in 17 days we had 135 bikes registered for the rodman IV ride

Also, in that 17 days, you were still planning way in advance...I should be able to make it, but it still is tough for me to make that call with little planning...I can't just take that 5.5 hour ride and leave town so often... but I should be there to clean up AND ride a few days

I didn't hear back from the ranger station today and I was to busy to call them. Marla gave me the name of someone else to contact tomorrow so I'll post what I find out.

you are right! i just feel that we should have alot more people say they are willing to help if they can get off work or they have the funds or if they can get a sitter or something! atleast acknowledge that they are WILLING to help if circumstances allow, that is all im saying. I dont really have the money to go up again so soon but i will sacrifice something to try to keep a legal place to ride.
if we had 200 of us say we might be there and only 50 showed up , well that would be fine because atleast the 50 that are there have the peace of mind that if they cant make the next one someone else will step up for them

My wife and her girl scout troop adopted and  cleans up the road by our house for the broward county road authority so she has vest, 15 sticks with points and 4 grabbers

I tried 3 times to get ahold of someone again today and still nothing. I will try to get through again tomorrow and if  no luck then I will get Marla involved.

I am still in no matter what happen I will take my own trash if I have to. I will be staying at Elite Resort I will start a list soon.

Don't they want the forest cleaned up? Why are we trying to coordinate with them? For a dumpster or permission to relieve them of some trash? I plan on going to pick up trash one day and ride 1 1/2 days. After all, it's a long weekend, schools out, and Kyle's T-ball season will keep us from making a long weekend until the seasons over. OK, Claude.... Start the list...after all, you are the Grizz.....2 weeks and counting...

I'm in either weekend. If y'all want, we can use my truck as a dumpster. I'll haul the trash to one of the local dump sites.
