Title: My thanks to 686 Raptor Post by: 1FasterBlaster on August 20, 2007, 02:47:52 PM As some of you know, I transport various items all across the states. I have a 99 F350 dually. I'm on transport from Washington St., to N. Carolina. I'm pulling a 1948 Willy's Jeepster on a car hauler weighing at about 6,500lbs.
I'm passing through N. Platte Nebraska when I hear metal hit the ground from the underside of my truck. As I'm exiting the Hwy., I press the brake to slow down and I feel the front brakes grinding real bad and there's smoke billowing out. The brake pad fell completely off of the brake plate. The metal on metal was so bad, the caliper locked onto the rotor. I had to drive it at 2:a.m. locked up to the nearest brake shop. The damage is costing $370. dollars. Chris (686 Raptor) agreed to send me the money in exchange for the purchase of my trailer that I was selling for $450. And for that, he's getting a deal, and I'm even delivering it to him in Miami. Never say," Being a member on ATVflorida doesn't do you any good." Thanks Chris Title: Re: My thanks to 686 Raptor Post by: VForcedave on August 20, 2007, 03:50:24 PM I think thats pretty cool of the guy to front you some cash. Maybe you should become one of those Ice Road Truckers. Those guys are on the edge. No pun intended.

FWIW, Chino, ask the brake guy/mechanic how your wheel bearings are(if there spinning OK or not). I'm just thinking w/ all that heat on them they may need looked at. Also when you can put some ceramic pads on it, they don't get as hot & last longer, better for towing. Glad everything is working out, drive carefull. Title: Re: My thanks to 686 Raptor Post by: 1FasterBlaster on August 20, 2007, 04:13:56 PM I put a new rotor, new pads, and they repacked the bearings. I didn't know padplates could fall of like that. What really sucks is, three days ago, I had to replace the waterpump, and serpentine belt. That cost $450. When they did that, they found oil-looks like left over from another major repair- in the radiator rezevoir. I was pissed
I called Karznow in Deltona where I bought it from, and they said," Oh well." If anyone thinks about buying from this place, tell them to kiss your azz!! No wonder it was so cheap. Title: Re: My thanks to 686 Raptor Post by: gearhead400 on August 20, 2007, 11:49:08 PM yeah, diesels are no joke when it comes to repairs, big money. Just be glad you were able to stop and you wernt hurt. They said the oil residue WAS from a past repair, or they found oil in your coolant? hopefully a past repair.
Title: Re: My thanks to 686 Raptor Post by: 1FasterBlaster on August 23, 2007, 07:11:45 PM It was left over. I had fresh 15W40 put in and no problems since.
