i know its early but back by popular demand, its Rodman Dam Trail Ride IV.
make your reservations early at elete campground. there will be several groups of riders with something for everyone. we will have the usual racing in the pit and a trail ride to the 88 store after the group pics. lets have fewer pizza's this time guys so our stop at the 88 store wont be as long. somebody please come up with a pair of radios. i'd like to propose taking the route that carries us to eurika dam and the ocklawaha river then on to the 88 store. we'll take our first break in the sand pit at eureka dam. anyone wanting to race or hit some jumps can have at it there. grizz, start the count list. i'm in!

Jeff, Why don't you call Mike at the 88 store a week or so before and maybe he can get siome BBQ or something brought in.  

That would be a great idea....since they cook a pizza every half hour or so...time saved  ;D

if i had time i'd ask him if we could rent the place and just cook it ourselves. i will make a call anyway. notice i added a stop at that pit we didnt stop at on trail ride I.

I doubt I'll stay at Elite most likely I'll camp since the weather should be real nice. Maybe some others would like to camp as well. We should all try to camp together maybe at Salt Springs or Delancy??

you can count my crew in, dreth, dreths wife, pops, maw, and little man. less time at the store would be good so when we get back to the pit at rodman we can play if feel like it or have more time to hang out at the cabins ;D. all about the trails!!!!!!!!!!!!

i may do a scout ride on january 15th to check out the trails. theres very little open areas on this route and a lot of potential for downed trees. most should be cleared out by then.

i think we will break 100 bikes this time ;D. we will need to get some straight lines for the pictures this time ;D

Someone should take a pic of one of these events and send it in to an ATV magazine. This type of thing has the potential to turn into a huge sponsored event.

this is just the tip of the iceberg. we will get a little more structure for the group pics, more defined rows. i was thinking for the last one to line up end to end in a staight line across the pit.

hey guys I'm fairly new and unknown to the site but I have been waiting for a group ride that I can attend. This is the one!! Count me in for 2 bikes and I'll try to bring my 3 friends.....lookin forward to meeting some of you guys in person and learning the trails....never been to ONF!!

any tips for me as far as preparation....gas, food, etc???

don't worry Scooter. I'll be there if able. all depends on the racing situation (FTR) but I think we are off from12/5 to 2/13 or something like that so I should be able to make it.

That does sux, but looks like we'll have to make our way through the trails. hope you remember them Scooter. if not well looks like we'll have to figure it out

Finally one that is planned far enough in advance that I can hopefully see if I can get the time off!!!!!!!!!!!  I will check on thursday when I go into work and see if the time is available everyone keep their fingers crossed!!!!!!!!! ;)

I am going to plan on camping out the whole weekend and riding Friday morning till Sunday afternoon so don't worry Scooter you'll have someone to ride with. I should have atleast one other rider with me for this one. Maybe Ida wants another camp out at his place?!?!  ;) lol

hey Wassup guys well im not new to this sport but new to rod man....never herd of it but sounds like a really cool thing to do. umm i actually have a few questions. one what kind of riding is it??? is it all mud because i have a 450r a banshee and a built blaster going up with me and we cant not take on any mud...and 2 can some body PM me or just tell me here what is the complete address where i need to meet up with you guys. im in miami so directions from my area would be really help full. and 3 do i have to pitch in on money like for food drinks etc..... thanks again fellas.

I just joined this board and saw that you will be going to Ocala in Jan.  I have a couple guys and gals that might want to join up with you guys for a different change of scenary.  Is there anything special that we need to know or be equiped with?  This elite campground, I read that they accept pets and are not the expensive.  Will people be staying here?  Is it a good place?  Any other info. that you could tell me.  We love to get dirty and have a good time.  What are the ages of all you guys?

Update I just resvered cabin number 34 for the 21st and 22nd of Jan. I am ready for another ride.  ;D Homey anit playing this time, I will be prepared.

I just left Elite, The rates for cabins with smoking and pets are about $80 per night for 2 adults. If we want group rates we must reserve and pay for cabins 5 at a time. It will save about 20%.  Trouble is, many of the cabins are already rented that weekend.  The good news is they tpa a keg and have free beer on Saturday night at the rec center.

As far as solving the communication problem we had last ride: I have never had a lot of confidence in those small 2-way radios, but Walmart has a set up for $59.99 that says 10 mile range. That range would be in perfect weather over the ocean. I would think they would at least get several miles in the forest. That way we could all be on the same channel. CB or Marine radios would probably be best, but may be too expensive.

last I knew, citizen's band radios and anything else was limited to 5 watts of power,,,,,over clear ground that limited range to approximately 5 miles.

thats not including the HAM radios and commercial application radios.

I just became apart of this board and it is great so far.  I have called the elite campground and they have told me that there about 15 total cottages left 8 of which are standard.  If you have a dog you will need to have a standard room.  They also informed me that you can get a 25% discount for a booking of 5 or more cottages at a time.  I asked if we can book seperately and then combine our group once there and she said NO.  I think,Terry, had just completed reserving the room so he will not be able to get the bargain.  If there is anyone else that is going to book a room, please call or email me so we can use the discount.  I think I will have 3 cottages between guys here in Tally.  njarrett@comcast.net or my cell 850-445-7281.  This should be a great time.

25%  discount? when i was there last time, they said you would get a $5 per night discount. To me, it wasn't worth the risk to book other peoples rooms in case they don't show up.

Each person has to book their rooms individually, but to get the discount you must call as a group.  Doesn't make since to me either.  I was hoping that we could book under a group name and each person call and reference the group name.  They still might, we just might have to sweet talk them.

I'll try to make a stop by their office this weekend and have a chat with them.

this will be the 4th group ride where people from this site have rented from them and brought a ton of business to them and the surrounding businesses,,,,,I don't see why they won't make an exception and let people book seperately.

Sweet that sounds good. I found some pretty nice trails between Rodman and Lake Delancy last time that I'd like to ride again. They're deffinately going to be 2 mean quads..I can't wait. We'll make better plans as it get's closer  ;)

Cool thanks for help buddy that’s pretty cheap for a gps I thought they were allot more I think I might just buy one today and play with it a little.....oh by the way who likes beef jerky ???????? I actually make my own beef jerky im taking about 3 pounds of jerky 1 pound of sweet baby ray 1 pound of bbq sauce and 1 pound of honey bbq. And I honestly think my jerky is better then any jerky in the stores. home made stuff is allways better

Looks like my wife, me , our dog, and at least 4 friends will be joining the group.

Also, is there anyone that got a cottage that would be willing to switch to a lakeview to accomodate one of our 4 legged friends?  All the standards are out and they are the ones that accept dogs.

This ride keeps getting bigger and bigger everyday.  And it is only November, can you  image by Jan. how big it will be.  I just can't believe all the people who have cabins already.  Me and Flblaster are thinking of taking that Friday off and going to do a little riding.  We live 45 minutes away so we will not be renting a cabin.  Then we would just be back Saturday morning to meet up with the group.  

well have to line up all the atp built quads theres a bunch of  them see whitch one mike did the best work on =)

If the last one wasn't a ride to remember this one sure will be.  So many people are responding saying count them in.  And so many already have cabins.

Lakeside cabins are 85 a night..

i swear the lady told me i wanted the cheapest they got she said we only got lake side left and i said well give me the cheapest she said 203 and i told her i will call you back.

I just called this afternoon and checked on a cabin, They told me it was $85 a night for 2 adults and $10 per extra adult. I need to pay some bills tonigtht and check my funds. Hey Scooter, it might be a head up on Sat morning and come back sat night this time :-/ :'(.

i just reserved mine this morning for 2 nights and it came to
$181 with tax..

Hey everybody It's BlaterBoy_200. I hope this ride is going to be a lot better than the last one and the utility bike's don't take off through the puddles. Then leave us sport bikes. But that was cool how we cought up to them and got in the line. If there really is going to be almost 85 people there we are deffinently going to send a picture to dirt wheels.This will be the biggest ride ever.Jan. that's kind of far from now because I can't wait that long. looking at the map it looks like 13 cottages so far rented at Elite.

I can't see why they wouldn't make a special discount for a group that is spending over $1100 a night so far to stay at their place.

Ida,  i asked them about that when i called this afternoon and she said that we would have to call with everyones info at one time,, that is the only way they would do it... and it would be for 10% discount on each cottage.. so we would save a whopping 8 bucks a night....

try calling mill dam lake. they have cabins or trailers. they are located on hwy 40 near the western border in the direction of ocala. instant message da mtg man, he has stayed there and may have the phone number. they used to have a few mom and pop cabins in salt springs, i remember staying in one back in the 80's.

how far is rodman from big scrubb?   cuz i doubt ill get a  cabin at eliete.. or also there any hotels in the area?

You can camp at lake Delancy and ride to Rodman dam from there.

Polatka is only 14 miles from Rodman Dam

Welcome to the site! Glad to see another from J-ville. We really have quite a group from the area. Some have been MIA for a while but I am going to try and get in touch with them before the ride. Hopefully have at least 7 from this area headed down for the ride.

When I get there I'm going to get a shower then play some miniature golf and go swimming. That's what I'm doing can't wait to hear what everybody else are doing. Be back on Sunday. Until then out.

I live in Orange Park wichI guess is from the J'ville aera, it would not let me put in OP so had to use J'Ville. as anyone camped at the Rodman camp ground? I have looked at it and it is real nice. I like to tent camp and the weather should be real nice that time of year, maybe a little cool. I do know that you can't ride in and out but only about 1 mile from the sand pit. I am thinking about going to Rodman camp on Thurs. afternoon, getting set up and just hang out that night, then ride on Fri. Make it a weekend of rideing. My also bring my son with me.

Got cabin 7 for friday/saturday.  if your still trying to figure it out, you might want to hurry, there are only two cabins left.

funny you mentioned that. i was going to make a comment but i changed my mind. after all you did make it through that deep azz mud hole on the last ride so your in good standing. it helped make up for those "no shows".

How many dirtbikes are going to be on this run???
I have got a friend that wants to go and was wondering if there was going to be some bikes on this trip...

Don't known how many are going to be on this ride, but last ride there was only one dirtbike and  I belive it was EricZ and he made it through all of the mud puddles alot better than some of the 4wheelers.

i believe eric and his son will be on dirt bikes this time.

mileage wise it wont be shorter, time wise should be better.
changing 5 things from last time will pick up 3-4 hours.

(1) we shouldn't have the water issue at the start

(2) everyone needs do do a better job of keeping up with the group.

(3) make the stop at the 88 store no longer than 1hr

(4) if you decide to take off on you own let someone know so we dont wait or go back and look for you

(5) and of course take the right trails

to be honest, it looks like we're taking a lot more riders this time. a small group can make it one way in 1-1/2 - 2 hrs of steady riding. we will be lucky to hold it to 3 hrs each way, adding a 1 hour stop = a 7hr minimum trip. thats if no one gets lost or has mechanical problems. any way you cut it is an all day round trip.

erbilibuc brought this up maybe 2-3 months ago. you can do a search to find the thread. there was a lot of disagreement on the logo. my thoughts are who ever takes charge should pick a layout and go with it. atvflorida.com would be fine in my opinion. but any logo should have the approval of mr bones and a percentage of sales go to the site.

If there's going to be this many people why not split into maybe 2 or 3 groups. One of fast riders and another for the slower ones. Then we can all meet up at the pits, 88store etc. in between. Just a thought. Maybe even map it out so the slower riders can take a shorter routwe and the faster ones take a long route so we meet about the same time.   :-/

i hoping as more people get familiar with the forest we get to several groups. fast riders, trail riders and sunday drivers. i doubt a map would work as its so easy to get turned around even if youve been down the trails before. we could mark out some trails with a spot of paint on some trees. by summer i think several groups will emerge. when the days get longer i dont plan on turning back at the 88 store im heading south past hwy 40 and behond but people wanting to turn back should know by then how to do it. i like 100+ mile rides.

When i camped at lake delancy in may we had no idea where we where going and made it to rodman it about an hour and both are groups got broke up so thats with going back and getting them ;D ;D so if you know where your going it should only take you like 20 min

so you dont that early of a start 8)

just go past the turn to rodman, look for forest road #75 head west. you want to camp in west delancy, you can ride out of west delancy. east delancy is closed to atv's.

I agree but that still is a really cool idea..
Lets say there is a 2 week turn time on shirts (ie; art, set-up and printing) Whoever is on the ride list at the cutoff date gets the name on. The others will just have to try harder to get their name on the next one.

I have the gps cords for Eurekia and Rodman

Could you post a couple others ,like the layout as a square or a triangle or some to keep track as we go?? (ie 88 store and the farthest east of the track).

It will cost less than $20/shirt.  However, the best way to get a good price would be to order in bulk.  This would be close to $2k.  I would hate for anyone to pay that much and then not get screwed if you don't sell them all.  Also, you have to but in groups of 6.  ^ shirts will cost a little over $135 total.
If someone wants to take their chances they could charge $20-$25/shirt and make a little profit for their investment.

My two cents on the shirt design if this happens would be, cut the names and use the tire on the back like Chris had pasted.  All the names will be changing and it just looks to cluttered.  Maybe the front of the last shirt design with Chris's back design, if that makes sense.

 shirts can be made for well under $10 per shirt,  I've seen simple ones go for $3 each, if you buy 100 shirts.

With this many people, we need communication. I just ordered 2 hands free units from www.motocomm.com I'll let you all know how they work out. They are compatable with my new 4 watt 12 mile range midland radios. Speakers and microphone fit inside your helmet (open or full face) and a weather proof PTT switch mounts to your handlebars you just push it to talk. Cost on the set up with out radio is $59.99 ea.

At the last ride we had several mishaps with people getting separated. This may help.

I was actually considering this aswell. I think we can do it in a little less time but we'd have to hammer down for sure. Plus gas might become an issue. Maybe we can do a test run Friday and see how long it will take.  ;)

I don't know if we'd be able to fit that many quads in the yard, but yeah, we could make it a stop.

I like the idea of the T-shirts, but I don't think we should put the group ride # on it since there is one just about every 2 months or so.  That would mean you would have to buy a new one every ride.

I did the drafts on www.customink.com. I also did a rough quote. For the first design, just out of curiosity I selected 10 Medium kids shirts and 100 Large adult shirts (they have sizes kids XS-XL and Adults S-4XL, so taking size orders wont be an issue) For those 110 shirts the total came to $632.50 at $5.75 a shirt, I would think depending on the shirt sizes, the price could go up or down a little. For the 2nd design, for the same sizes/amounts, the price was $744.70 at $6.77 shirt. Theres also a T-shirt place across the street from my work, I will stop by tonight and check on thier pricing also.

We discussed that in the "Open Forum" and had decided against it.

I like that idea... then we could wear the shirts at every ride. Someone also had the idea of putting our screen names on the front, as much as I like that idea, it would have to be done on our own seeing that it would defeat the purpose of buying bulk. I know we could EASILY add our names to the front of the shirts by buying a $2.00 fabric pen from Walmart or any craft store. They come in all colors, that way we can have our screen names, but not jack the cost of the tshirts up.

was wondering if the 88 store has gas. i ve never tried to go 50 miles on my 450. my wife and son have 400 s . so i think they would be ok. we have never been to this area to ride. any good directions to the dam. we are comeing up from sarasota.looks like we will need to come in that  a. m.  since we have a dog, and all the cabins are gone.and last , can we get this many trailers parked there ?????

We are all for this idea,  we just need someone willing to collect the money and put in the order!  We would take two one large and one small.  If someone where to do this though I would recommend collecting all the money first and then place the order.  

Yes they have gas,, i was a little worried about the gas milage before the first ride. but you would be surprised how far those 4 strokes will go.. And i am sure a few people will bring extra fuel if you needed it....

from sarasota:  I75 north to sr40 east, to sr19 north to rodmans dr,  and go to the dead end... easy!

I made it to the 88 store from Rodman on 2/3  of a tank and I know that with all thats been done to the Rappy I'm sucking down more fuel than both of you guys.

Set up a a pay pal account, give folks the $ amount and where to send the pay pal money.  whoever is doing the work, gives a cut off date for the orders, those who pay, get shirts, those who dont, get nada.  whoever is gonna take on the burdon of doing this could estimate the cost per shirt and if they come out less (due to order size) than you have the choice of getting the money back or putting money on beer.  i'd prefer the beer.  so, make a deadline on ordering the shirts, set up pay pal, get the money, place the order, hand out shirts at the ride.

and dont worry, it's only gonna hurt for a minute or two.

i still like design #1 but keep it simple just atv.florida.com with the atv symbol front and back like you have it. just omit rodman group ride iv. just my opinion. i'll go with what ever you pick. the cost isnt bad either.
charge $10.00 and give the rest of the money to mr bones.

I basically had that layout with 2 quads on the Design 2 (page 22).

I saw that but you had both sport quads at least I thought that's what they were on one. this could be both types on one shirt. but just an idea. I do like your design don't get me wrong. I know better than to piss off a woman that can cook like you did for the last ride... ;D

Here is an idea for the shirt . ATV FLORIDA on the front ,and on the back have a front or side view of a big utility and a mini with a sport flying over the top .

mine holds 2.6 and i get ruffly(sp) 40 to 45 miles to the tank and its fixing to get worse ;D

Yeah, that would definately be cool! Hopefully it will call more POSITIVE attention to OHV use and maybe get a kickstart to opening more areas up.. not to mention, get more attention to this website, lol. If it does happen.. just be sure whenever you get on a quad with the cameras around.. to have your helmet on! I could just see that getting turned into some huge issue and hurt us instead of help us, lol (my luck anyway)

Haa aint that the truth. Granted they make good decisions when I probably wouldn't but half the time I can't make to any ride cause either Grams won't let me go or Gramps is working so I don't have a ride. I am trying to make it to this : ride :D but, I doubt I will grams doesn't like me riding alone.  ??? :-/

This time I think we need to have a bit more of a plan when it comes to the ride. Alot of people got separated the last time. Maybe split into groups depending on speeds, with hopefully at least one person in the group having GPS. And be sure to do headcounts every so often, just incase, lol. I know I would hate to be riding and notice someone missing, when its been 45 minutes since our last stop, lol. Thats a lot of ground to cover to find them. The main thing.. Everyone look out for one another, whether you know eachother or not, lol. And I'm not sure if people last time realized this, but if you dont want to go on the ride to the 88 store.. theres a bunch of us that just hang out at the pit.. and go on smaller trail rides (dang gas guzzlers.. yeah.. you know who you are!) Lol.

Last time I checked, all the pit riders and gas guzzlers would be just about be everyone that had been ATP'd. NOT me. I am still stock, but someone has to be the same one of the bunch. Since we are all the outcasts...lol ;D

i agree sky, im riding slow on the way to the store and then my wife, son, and mom are driving back in the car so i can blaze my way back ;D

I just went and got two of those gmrs/frs radios with ear buds for the ride. It would be nice if each group had the front and back rider with one to keep everyone together. That is if we split up into fast and slow groups. Don't want to lose anyone out there, it's easy to get turned around, trails everywhere.

 never been to onf. but i am going to this ride for sure. so far i got 3 for sure and waiting on about 10. we will be doing a one day ordeal.will post back when i have a total quad count.

in our case when riding to the 88 store i doubt more than 4 people can get there legally through the woods, that would be myself grizz ida man and naples raptor . if someone else knows how please speak up. im hoping we eventually do smaller groups as people get familiar with the trails. lets atleast have a group of sport (fast) and a group of utes (slow). me and grizz will be in the utility group someone step up for the sport group.

helpfull hints not to get lost:

keep up with the guy in front

the guy in front should know who is behind them

use common sense if you get separated its very easy to follow tracks of 30 quads.

if you are not sure where to go wait where you are. if your riding with me i will come back and look for you. even if it takes 45 minutes.

designate a guy in the rear. the guy with the flag last time was excellent. we need some more flags.

we have several sets of radios promised this time.

do not break from the group without telling someone. this and not making a good effort to keep up is what happened last time and caused the big screwup!

if you dont think you can keep up please stay with the group at the pit.

I think I'm gonna try and make this one.  I've never been to ONF before.  How far is Delancey campground from Rodman dam?  How do I get in on one of those gas drops?  I ride a 2 stoke with a large appetite.

Looking forward to this one. Hopefully I can get to Ocala to check the place out before the ride.

How long is the drive from Sunrise and what's the best way to go?

Take I 95  North to Ormond Beach (Exit 268 ) go west on 40 to 19 north to to Salt Spring (Elite is on left)

I'm in Davie and it took me exactly 4 hours with a 15 min stop from my house to Elite camp ground. I-95 is the best way to go I have found. Use mapquest.com and put in your address and the address of Elite Resort 25250 east highway 316, Salt Springs, FL 32134 and it will give you the directions and best way to go.

glad your aboard. i was going to post to inquire if anyone going on the ride had EMT training. can i assume that you do?

I have to appoligize , just in case anyone missed my comment earlier.  Doreen and I will NOT be able to attend this ride.  I absolutley would have offered to guide the sport quad group from the pit to the 88 store.


One BIG key point- KNOW who is behind you, and if they disappear- STOP  or slow down until they catch up !!! This will in turn cause a domino effect in front of you as everyone eventually stops to wait for the person behind them.

I'm hoping there will be a Rodman Group ride V- maybe a few weeks after IV ? Perhaps I'll start a new thread about it...

the trips sound good, this will be my frist time out to rodman dam. I have a 7 year son he rides a Raptor 50. he a very good rider for his age and raptor is pretty tricked out it does about 25 mph, do think he can handle it ? Let me know. I have all the 2way radios for the trip.

I don't think a raptor 50 can keep up with us on this ride but you could stay back with the other group at Rodman dam.

we will being going to the ride but staying in the pit area as many will do and take smaller trail rides that your son will be able to go, my nephew will be riding his new preditor 50 that santa will be bringing him so we will not be going on the "big" ride
but should be a great day of riding and meeting new people

it would be pushing it a bit for a 7yr old. we're talking around 60 miles round trip. we do make frequent stops but we are talking an all day ride. has he done anything close to that before? we have had more than a few adults catch rides back from the 88 store.

i knew you weren't able to make this ride. go ahead and start a february thread for rodman V. hopefully we will do 1 ride per month like we were doing before hunting season. maybe ida man will take the sport quads out on this one.

have anybody thought about motocomm radios. radio and headset for less than 100.00   each.   is there anyone that will be able to show the sport quads back. slow ride out is ok. but would really like to push it on the way back

We rode with my 6 year old grandson, and had to double up a few times cuz it was a bit much for him and his 125 breeze. This will be a longer ride too. besides, the raptor only has 3.5 inches ground clearance, and that will kill your ride in the forest.

one would think that, but I still got lost coming back after I got seperated from the rest of the small crew I headed back with.

I'm gonna make some trips next time I go riding to see if I can find a somewhat smoother ride to Rodman from my end of the forest.

then maybe I can take a group back from 88 store.

but if I head from my place to Rodman in the morning,,,,I'll be headed from the 88 store home instead of going back to Rodman.

also, if I do that, I will of course have my truck with a trailer that I could haul some quads back to Rodman from there.

The combination of getting lost in ONF last time, better learning how to us my new GPS and maps from Grizz of the forest, I feel much more comfortable finding my way around for the next trip.

Hey where is Rodman Dam Trail Ride and what are the conditions like

Rodman Trail ride Is in Ocala National Forest about 4 1/2 from south Florida.

Trails are mostly sandy and dry .

Im very interested in the Rodman Dam ride but how does it work, is there a cover charge to get in, is it a one day ride and who do we have to let know if we want to go,  :) :)

No cover.. Just show up @ rodmans pit on sat Jan 22... I think by 9am.. we will be at the pit for a little while with the handouts of shirts and getting a group pictures....
You can either hang at the pit with some or go on the ride with others...

it wont cost you anything. if your coming post how many is in your group and grizz will add you to the list. if you take the trail ride with us you will want to have some money for gas or food at the 88 store.

Looks like there will be alot of folks on this ride.  any plan of breaking up into some smaller groups?  i will be happy to help, with the GOS route we can just follow that and meet up and certain points.  would also be good to use the radios to keep in touch between the first and last in each group.

How many going from the J'vill aera? Maybe we can hook up somewhere aroung GCS, Eagle Harbor or Orange Park over on 17 area have breakfast and all go down as a group. Would have to hook up early. I am talking about Sat. morning around 0500 to 0530 in time to maybe eat and get to Rodman by 0730 for a place to park. Just an idea.

Hey, Lets not get carried away...I said for the pics...God knows,I'll be cracking one one at the dam before we ride....they don't call me budman for kicks... I earned that name, didn't pick it. Ask Grizz, I'm a drunk...acoholics go to meetings. If it wasn't for Dr Walum drinking half of my beer, ( ;D) I would have never made it back to rodman...just kidding moderators...Cabin 17 is where the drunks may congregate...if we had not got "lost" last time the party would have been at 12.

I'll be camping at Ida's, I'll take my usual spot by the bushy tree  :P and I'll deffinately have at least one person with me for the weekend...someones gotta ride the 250 so I have a place to store my junk  ;) lol

last time a few of us met up at the huddle house in palatka. when the time gets closer we'll set up a place.

this is a good point. in the past parking hasnt been a problem, that is until the last ride. several people got warning tickets for parking too far east of the "normal parking area". we are going to have to line up our trucks in an orderly pattern. we may need to start a new thread when then time gets closer to get this point across. i doubt rodman has ever had this many people there.

What does everyone think of this?

Park with the nose of our trucks towards the woods, leaving the trailers facing the road. This way we can park many more rigs close to each other. Space is going to be a problem.

4x4 trucks can park in the pit area, but not the others.

good point moose. this way no one gets blocked in. how long is the parking area? i'm guessing about 400' X 2= 800' /12'= room for 66 trucks. the 12' is allowing for a 8' wide truck with 4' of room between each.

mike, are you gonna ride through the woods to  rodman or drive the truck? ida and steve were thinking about making the ride. i might be in for some of that action. i guestimate its 2hr 15 minuets of good riding, but with the rappy you have maybe 18 minutes flat.

Even if we decide not to ride from Ida's to Rodman it might be a good idea for those of us at his place to try and caravan to Rodman together so we can cut down on the amount of rigs taking up parking space.  [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]

no kidding, its gonna be tight. better get there early. unless some park in the sugar sand the regular parking area will be full. not to mention the people that go there thats not a member here.

I say the best place to meet up is at the rec room. They have a couple of pool tables and a ping pong table but most importantly (and this is the whole reason that Scooter stays at Elite) is they have a free keg at the rec room from 6pm til it's gone. I'm going to call Elite and see if they will provide a second keg since we have so many people and didn't get any kind of discount rates.

We should get a price break, even $5 a night, 22 cabins, that's $220, plus any RV sites rented. Plus any money spent at their store.

We should also check out the other places around the forest, maybe they would want our buisness a little more.

They might not care what we think, but they just might.

it takes about 3 hrs to take the route through that maze of trails south of hog valley, eureka dam and on to the 88 store. thats with 1-10 riders. i'm just wondering if we should keep it simple and take that easterly route we've been taking. theres way more riders than i ever imagined when i started this thread. my guess is that we're looking at 5-6 hrs with 100 riders. 4 hrs by taking the easterly trails.

i will be up early friday also and would like to ride,,, where is this place... I know it was accross the street from the elite,,, anyone have cordinate to where your going to be parked?? or are you going to drive over from elite...

there are trails all over, but this particular trail starts close to the intersection of 314 and 88 in salt springs, you can follow the trails(the rights ones if you know them) all the way to hwy 40, but about 3 miles before you get there, there is a small clay pit about 1.5 miles west of road 88 I believe on either forest road 10, or forest road 76.

the forest road will be on the East side of road 88, but you follow the west side of 88 that just looks like a well used trail,,,,,that will dead-end into the pit.

or they could be talking about the clay pit that is very near the corner or 314 and 88 ;-)

straight across 19 from elite is a road, take it about 5 miles in, a clearing will be on yer left side. thats where we usually park and ride at.

cant pass another big ride like this have a friend who got a cabin for that weekend

we are leaving friday after noon we are coming from miami if you like we can meet up some where and you can fallow us up to rodman????

I will be leaving friday morning from the west palm area if anyone wants to meet and leave together. My truck and trailer will hold seven bikes without stacking. I am bringing one bike and possibly two more. That leaves room for four more. This will reduce the amount of trailers. I will be coming back Sunday afternoon. Let me know if interested. Tony

Count me in. Only read 1st page so are you planning to take the same route and does the 88 store have gas cause the yfz ain't to good on the gas.

There is primitive camping and plenty of space available over by my place.

There are campgrounds on the SouthEast corner about a half mile from the intersection of 88 and 314, and about a 5 minute quad-ride through the woods is my place where some people will be camping with a restroom, shower, cable tv, two refrigerators, oven, stove, microwave.

come one, come all,,,,just want to be able to fit everyone in the yard, so I hope a few people use the campgrounds instead of the front yard.

I will try to put up some signs at the corner of 88 and 314 and some signs at the beginning of the camps.

Might have to take you up on the offer to crash at camp Ida. Showers are always a plus after a long ride

Did you folks who can't take the cold see the temperature in Ocala this morning?...A lovely 28 degrees!!!   Yeah baby!!!! Oh, that was for us deep south folks...you panhandle and N.E. Coast guys love that stuff. Grizz will think that is warm. I've seen his snow pics. Gotta love the cabin now!!    ;D ;D

Yep that cabin sounds great right about now with this cold weather coming in. I still can't wait to go ride though just have to wear more clothes keep me warm and happy. ;D

It's about 12 miles from Elite we have over 60 bike rider coming from Elite U can follow us there.

the last 4 years ive been doing a late january ride. its been fairly good weather every year but its only a matter of time when we get hit with a freeze. it will make the water holes interesting.

160 quads roughly 6' each with 3' spacing between =1440' = over 1/4 mile. we need an arial photo.

I think with over 100 quads being at the ride that the hunters will be a bit outnumbered, lol. I dont think it will be anything to be too concerned about, if you are truely worried about it.. where a bright tshirt ;) Just watch out for piano wire and roofing nails, lol. I know myself and a bunch of others will be there, we could care less if its hunting season or not... its a free country and hunters have to share the land just as we do. :)

they hunt 2 month a year, we ride all year. they paid to hunt we ride for free, they have guns we have kids. what sounds wrong here? just what to have a good time.

thanks guys; I called a ranger friend last night, General gun 11-3 to 1-9 and Small game opens 1-10 to 3-6 in Ocala. its better to be safe than sorry.

Yep, I don't know why but Rodman is considered  "south district" and general gun is over on Jan 9th So ride on.

One thing to keep in mind, ONF is a ( Wildlife Management Area ) run by the FL. Fish & Wildlife Com. These areas sometimes have slightly different rules as the state general hunting rules, and they change them when ever they want, so you have to read their brochure every year to stay up on the changes.

I know there was some discussion about this earlier in the post, but can we get a definative answer on this from a ranger office? or two to be sure ;-)

Trust me I've been hunting there for years it always runs from the 2nd weekend in Nov. till the 2nd weekend in Jan. [smiley=ThumbsUp.gif]

Just got back from India. (They have some great trails to ride, but I don't think we'll be doin a group ride there anytime soon). 170 quads on our next group ride? That's awesome! Can't wait to see everyone again.

hey greggt , i live up in sarasota, and i have a couple of friends that live in the cape.we are trying to figure out the time of morning we need to leave to make it to rodman by 8.00 am.

It takes right at 4 hrs to get to Rodman from Pine Island  and Burnt Store Rd.
I'd plan on leaving at 3:30 just to be safe, That way you can stop in N Tampa and refill the coffee.

whew :o that is going to be a long day,, especially if your driving home the same day....
