Title: Suspension ??? Post by: jayman on June 26, 2007, 04:41:58 PM What are the differences or benefits between progressive rate and dual rate springs for the rear shock?

A progressive rate spring progressively get stiffer as you compress it. A dual rate had 2 single rate springs. One light and one heavy, instead of 1 progressive spring. Title: Re: Suspension ??? Post by: jayman on June 26, 2007, 05:01:34 PM Ok, I knew that just wanted to know why they have 2 of them. They both seem to do the same exact thing. Can you tell on the dual rate when it goes from the softer to the harder spring? Do you feel a hesitation?
Title: Re: Suspension ??? Post by: digginfool on June 26, 2007, 06:38:37 PM No, the dual spring is not like shifting gears. The main difference is the progressive spring will have a softer feel to it, at least in the intial compression. Beyond that, they both do the same thing. The dual spring setup is a less expensive (but not necessarily the least desirable) alternative. They tend to have a better life span than progressive wound springs.
