Title: Suspension ???

What are the differences or benefits between progressive rate and dual rate springs for the rear shock?

I don't know what the advantages are but the difference is...

A progressive rate spring progressively get stiffer as you compress it.

A dual rate had 2 single rate springs. One light and one heavy, instead of 1 progressive spring.

Ok, I knew that just wanted to know why they have 2 of them.  They both seem to do the same exact thing.  Can you tell on the dual rate when it goes from the softer to the harder spring? Do you feel a hesitation?

No, the dual spring is not like shifting gears.  The main difference is the progressive spring will have a softer feel to it, at least in the intial compression.  Beyond that, they both do the same thing.  The dual spring setup is a less expensive (but not necessarily the least desirable) alternative.  They tend to have a better life span than progressive wound springs.
