I have a pond in my yard. One day my wife comes in and tells me there are some snakes in the yard and they are chasing me. I found a female laying eggs under some rocks where the nest was. They are very aggressive snakes.

It is very difficult for them to mate when they have lead poisioning

worried about snakes, you should be wearing waders, the snake bite wont penetrate through to your legs.

id be more concerned from the brown recluse spider.. they are everywhere. i got bit last year and i know peep that got bit this year.. snakes you see, the spider you wont.

i know its hot out there, but if you wear protective clothing, you got a better chance of not being bit.

Sometimes they do nothing, but sometimes if they get enough venum in you, that can cause what is known as necrosis (which is basically where you skin dies around the area of the bite) if you let it go untreated, the area will just get larger and larger, can cause some serious scarring too.  Other symptoms include iching, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and/or shock.  Symptoms usually start to appear 2 -6 hours after bite.  They are VERY common here in Floirda, and I have seen my fair share of them, from my backyard to the woods, so just be careful.  I was bit several years ago at a ranch, and within a few days I had a problem, went to the dr, gave me shots, and it was all okay.

I will see if I can find a picture and post....

As for the cotton mouth, yea they are pretty little sneaky ones.  I remember ones I was out in the holeylands, stuck, and right under by bike one when swimming on by.  I never lifted my legs up on my bike so fast.  We were all out a Peace River, years ago, about 15 of us hanging down in the river, and one went swimming right by, scared us stiff.

Also been fishing out in the Lox Road area, and had a top lure, the damn snake started following right to the boat.....

Definitly going to invest in some snake proof boots for holeylands riding this one we saw fathers day was hungry and on the prowl  we were standing in 12 inches of water enjoying a suitible beverage when he ruined our party

Brown recluse is the worst! Definitely keeping my hands out of dark stump holes.

I dont find Moccasins that aggresive.  I live on a lake and when we push our boat out there is atleast 2 sitting under it since the crawdads like to go under there.  I just kick them into the water and then they hide under the dock in the algae until we come back.  We once had a litter of babies under the boat, but those just scatter.  I caught one barehanded once and it showed no signs of aggresion.  Maybe its just you "deep" south folk that they dont like ;)
