Title: Any Father's Day ATV Rides Near Ocala?
Post by: cinnister on June 16, 2007, 10:04:55 AM
Hello.  New to this forum.  We just bought 2 4-wheelers and have been riding out at Big Scrub a few times and met some nice folks.  Had a run in with the rangers once because I was riding under the power lines and didn't know that was a no-no but he was cool about it.  My boyfriend and I are having a great time and I was hoping there was maybe a group ride planned for Father's Day.  Does anyone know?

By the way he has a Polaris Sportsmen 500 HO and I have a Polaris Trailboss.

I was reading the posts about the sticker requirement for ATV's and the dealership we bought them from gave the stickers to us with the deal, supposedly lifetime stickers.

Also have a question about the place near Brooksville, Kroom i think.  I know it's $50 per year to ride there but I was told the trails are kind of boring.  Any other suggestions to ride other than those two areas?   :)

hi welcome , yeah the stickers  that you got with your title are lifetime and good an all Florida Forest systems..........

Croom is ok there are many different trails and pits for all levels of riding..it is $50 a year from July 1 to june 31 between those times it is regulated.............My daughter (dirtygrl80 ) has a 2000 Trail Boss and she loves it.........

That's good to know.  Does that mean if we go out of state to ride we have to buy stickers for that state as well?

$50 isn't too bad for a year.  We will probably go check it out if not July 1st then very soon there after.

Everyone I've talked to says Polaris is a good brand and I love my Trail Boss.  I tried driving my boyfriends beast and it's so hard to handle / steer - it's just not fun like mine.

Another thing he noticed with his is that the exhaust pipe is right close to the side plastic cover with little protection it melted the plastic piece that held it in and so now he has to be careful that it doesn't fall off.  That happened within it's first 10 hours.  We took it to the dealership and showed them and they knew about the problem - said they'd seen it many times before because the heat shield wasn't thick enough to protect the plastic.  The service tech we talked to said they will have to call the warranty dept at Polaris and see what they want them to do about it - that was 3 weeks ago.  That and the bushings on the back were dry rotted but they already told us they have the parts to fix that so we have to take it up there.  I guess we'll ask them about the side panel then.  Other than those two minor issues we love them.

Get used to those Polaris problems my dear. My friend had a 700 Dale Jr edition and from day one she had nothing but problems and she finally traded it to a Yamaha 660 Grizzy (2007). The dealer gave her more run arounds and Polaris just blew her off like garbage. I wouldn't have a Polaris now if it was free. She had overheating problems and a couple other things. Polaris just doesn't stand behind their product.

That's probably true Suzie. It's just frustrating to plop down 6 or 7 grand and then have problems on the maiden voyage. Purcells didn't help her at all and when she called Polaris they said take it to the dealer. The problem was when the warranty ran out the problems she'd had all along which should have been covered since it was existing were no longer covered. I just thought Purcells and Polaris handled the matter poorly. They basically told her you bought it, live with it. You just can't do that and expect people to come back. She ended up getting a new 660 Grizzly and it's a way better machine.

Yeah that is unfortunate......we have a great dealership here St Pete Powersports and when i needed a new gearshift after my spill on last group ride ( many thanx again to Wilburs for helping to get quad off me ) it was here when promised, also all accessories we have ordered ......but of course Hoss400 would travel to get decent results if not satisfied............

Very true. We have had several Polaris and they were very dependable and fun.Congratulations on your new bikes Cinnister.Croom does have different types of riding but if your planning on going on July 1st be ready for a crowd. They renew stickers July 1st and that's also around the holiday.

Yeah the ranger told us to stay between the yellow markers and the woods, but there were a ton of people riding under them.  Oh well... live and learn.  :)

IF they ever reopen them the trails at Seminole MX are challenging. Or you don't have to wait if motocross or supercross are your thing. Great tracks there.
