I stopped at a rest area in Little Rock Arkansas, and woke up with Chad Reeds' RV parked next to me. He has a picture of him on his bike so big, it almost touches the top to bottom. Title: Re: Transport business Post by: KB on July 15, 2007, 12:07:38 PM Chino, my friend bought a big Ford F-650 or something like that to pull his boat, it's like a '85 I think.
Has the 5th wheel thing on it, it's a diesel, cleanest motor I've seen for a diesel work truck. It's a BIG truck(air brakes) not like a pick-up truck. His boat trailer is one of those kind that are adjustable for big boats, not a trailer made for just 1 boat, made to be adjusted for different BIG boats. Sounds like just what you need. He only wants $4,000.00 for the truck, body(basically just a cab & big fenders are strait), painted red but faded. I don't think the truck has over 100k miles on it. He's a dealer, picked it up at the auction about 6 months ago. His dealership is on Hwy.41 in Floral Cty./Inverness. PM me if your interested & I'll give you his #. Title: Re: Transport business Post by: Ida_Mann on July 15, 2007, 12:15:21 PM I didn't think there would be much call for something like that,,,,how exactly would you get into doing that?

Title: Re: Transport business Post by: KB on July 19, 2007, 09:34:08 AM Chino, that web-site I was talking about is www.uship.com, there might be more boards like that, check out www.craigslist.com too.
One thing you could do to your new truck that a lot of people do is take it to Tampa Spring Co. & have them put a heavy duty spring on the rear end (helper spring) it will be better for towing. Also most 3/4 ton's & up already have them but make sure if it's an automatic that you have a tranny. cooler on it, I run the tranny on my old Bronco (E4OD,tranny) w/ a cooler that doesn't go thru the radiator, I'm not a mechanic but to me it doesn't make much sense to have your tranny cooler lines running thru a 200 degree radiator. Get the biggest, aftermarket tranny cooler you can find & run it thru that instead, florida heat & stop & go traffic, pulling a trailer is hard on the tranny, it's get's hotter if you go out west or climbing mountains w/ a trailer. Title: Re: Transport business Post by: 1FasterBlaster on July 19, 2007, 09:59:38 AM Yeah, I know, I rebuilt the tranny on my Tahoe, and had it reinforced and had a cooler put in.
Title: Re: Transport business Post by: AmericanRobster on July 19, 2007, 10:56:22 AM When I get some extra cash, I want to install a tranny cooler on my silverado.

Id@ Title: Re: Transport business Post by: 1FasterBlaster on July 20, 2007, 05:38:43 PM Well, the fuel there and back is about $1200., according to the miles your giving me and it will probably take me about four to five days to get there and back.I'd charge you about $450. for the transport fee's, plus food and hotels.
If I have a run out that way that I can pick this up on the way back, I'll cut the cost in half. Let me know. Title: Re: Transport business Post by: Busta Nutt on July 20, 2007, 07:02:50 PM So you pay yourself 100 bucks a day and out of that comes food, hotel, truck payment, and maintenance? Title: Re: Transport business Post by: 1FasterBlaster on July 20, 2007, 07:41:39 PM No,, your right, I forgot to add that in, my bad. The $450. is only for the transport fee's. I have to have both addresses too, so I can determine the miles back, and forth.
I would have to do some more calculating. Thanks. Title: Re: Transport business Post by: Busta Nutt on July 20, 2007, 08:59:01 PM ok

Title: Re: Transport business - Need work!! Post by: KB on July 27, 2007, 08:10:55 PM Chino, I don't know if your working for yourself or for someone else & just looking for side work, I can tell you that the only way your going to make any decent $$ is by working for YOURSELF, but I guess you gotta start somewhere, have you looked at www.uship.com website out yet or not ? Another thing you can do is call some courier companies, I know of one around here called "N-E Where Transport" my mom use to use them for delivering cases of paper from her print shop to her customer's. But they got to big for her small order's so now she just uses a regular courier co.
Too bad were not gonna get any hurricanes this year, you could be chasing them if you had a big dump trailer like Cutngrs has, rent a Bobcat & make enough $$ on 1 storm to buy your own bobcat & trailer. Good Luck ! Title: Re: Transport business - Need work!! Post by: 1FasterBlaster on July 27, 2007, 08:15:43 PM I have access to a big trailer.
