Title: help a brother out
Post by: outtolunch on May 07, 2007, 11:11:13 AM
I just bought a Honda Rincon and a smaller Raptor.  What is some of the saftey stuff that I need.  I was reading through the owners manual about flags?  I know about helmets/gloves/boots and such.  Where is a good place to buy some of that equpment.

The Raptor is a little 50CC for my eight year old daughter, I got her a custome helmet, now just need to buy the rest of the stuff.

If there is anything that I forgot let me know, just want to be safe.  Thanks for any help that you can give me.

a quick and easy and cheap place to get a atv flag is wallmart in the bike section, the bases suck but with alittle modifing work well for a flag as for riding gear jsut check any local cycle shop or order online

Bieng new to riding in Florida, what are the flags for?  I will be riding on 700 acres of private land, but will also be going to our place in Silver Springs once and awhile.

The flags are for seeing where someone is when you can't see the bike. A lot of the time the palmettos will hide the bikes but the flag is way higher and you can see that. You don't really need it on private property. Only place mandatory for it is I think RR which you have to own property to go out there.

You want the tall flag so you don't run head on with another rider in the high sawgrass, or meet another rider head on at the top of a hill climb or jump.

It really depends on the terrain, your 700 acre area will probably be fine without one, but since you are riding with a child I would definitely use them, it makes keeping track of the riders with you so much easier.

BTW: Skip the bicycle flag and get pole and flag designed for an ATV. You will find a hole in the back just for it. Plenty of places have em for less than $20. Better is one for an airboat, you will replace it less. :)

If you are going to ride on public land, you will need to register the atv's and your daughter will need to take a safety training course by 7/1/8

another fine example of a way for our government to collect more of our money and do nothing for us

I paid for the registration when I bought them, does the dealer send you something like they do with a boat/car?

You should get a registration sticker, similar to what goes on a boat.
