Title: no holylands??
Post by: YELLOW RR on May 02, 2007, 03:47:18 PM
The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission on Wednesday issued an order restricting vehicle use on Holey Land and Rotenberger wildlife management areas in Palm Beach County as well as a portion of the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area, effective at 12 a.m. on May 4.

Motorized vehicles, motorcycles, airboats and all-terrain vehicles are prohibited on the Holey Land and Rotenberger areas and on Water Conservation Area 3A North in the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area.

The order was prompted by an inordinately low water level in the areas due to a regional drought, FWC said in a prepared release. These special regulations are necessary to minimize the likelihood of motorized vehicles or airboats starting fires that will harm wildlife and wildlife habitat.

Now lets see....

We can't ride when it's too wet....

We can't ride when it's too dry....

I also hear that they are going to make water restrictions year around, so are they going to try the same thing with Holey Lands...

PS - Welcome fellow citizen from Oakland Park, I got a neighbor - cool.   :)

They need water for the sheep they are herding into the condos for tax money, and the golf course must stay green!!

Well that really sucks. I guess Friday AM it is, and THE RANCH the rest of the weekend.

I like it better there anyway. :)

It did RAIN though, and more was coming!!!

no toyota tacoma 4x4,3" lift with 38's and a 3 bike trailer parked it just off the main road over the bridge (past where everyone parks)

Here's where I can say " THANK GOD I OWN A DEED AT RIVER RANCH"   Yeeeeeehhhhhaaaawwww

On a serious note: If they think they're going to shut this place without a HUGE BATTLE, SFWMD & FWC got it coming - Get Ready !  It better be closed temp.

We ran the south side in double time. Everything south of the buggy bridge is burned. The sawgrass is already regrowing, and it looks like they put out a patch of Brazilian peppers...?
I'll never understand the fire management out there...

Prerun action filmed in the easy areas. Google video has better quality, but will take all night to process.

Not sure which is better, personally I think they both blow..The caterpillars are thick in the sawgrass right now.

I can say the same thing, but they will NOT take the Holeylands without a big fight. Heck, the people from RR will come and fight for us just to keep me there. ;)
As soon as it rains it will reopen. Trust me when I say, no one belongs out there right now. It is a very dry tinderbox.

I got lazy with the lame video, later I'll post some pics that show what I am talking about, but if you ride there you can see just fine what I am talking about in the video, and considering the price of starting a fire I suggest everyone avoid it come midnight.

That said, anyone want to go for a run this AM and watch me take out my frustrations on my poor old bike? I guarantee you will enjoy the show!!!

What about the 3A south side ? that area is still open which
looking at FWC map appears to be the south side of 75
anyone know if this area is ridable?

LOL, I use to fish out there in waders. I am crazy, but trying a four wheeler there is even beyond me.
I have been thinking how would you cross the canal anyway..? We use to enter through Markham park.
Heck, it might be dry enough to ride. I doubt it, but possible I guess.

That is so close to me, I would build a makeshift bridge or put my bike in a jonboat to get in if any riding was possible. Ha, I could ride out from the house!! Now that would be nice.
