I feel your pain man.I had a beautiful American Bulldog. My home owners Ins. company sent me a letter cancelling my policy cause they said,"Bulldogs and related dogs were a risk.I gave him to SD4wheelin who lives in Avon Park.
He was playful and gentle to all kids and protective when needed and was trained very well cause they are so intelligent.Good luck !!

state farm issued us home owner's insurance and we have an american staffordshire.  we had to inform them when we were first getting insurance.  I agree that they are labeled, but it all has to do with the owner's in my opinion.  dogs are alot like children, raise em right and don't worry about it, raise wrong and they will be your worst nightmare.

The other way is to find homeowners insurance that will exclude dog liability.  That way, they don't care what type of dog it is.  As for renting, not sure how to get around that.

Yep,
Pitts primarily then on down from there.
Rotts and Mastiffs are two other breeds that take alot heat.
It the stupidity of the owners that leads to the bad statistics .

believe it or not, dalmations are on the top 5 most dangerous dogs or whatever them ratings are called. guess they can be really mean. when my dad got our policy they asked us if we had any of the top dogs on that list too. all we have is a little 5 pound dachshund. lol.

I had a major problem in Loxahatchee with my pitts not more than a few weeks ago.... I have 5 & it's deifnetly hard to find a loop hole in owning them now a days.... They get such a bad rap to due the ignorance of others.... I know that Farm Credit will issue home owners insurance for households with pitbulls... As far as trying to rent a place goes I reccomend looking out west where there aren't HOA's & what not .....

I have had no problems with my home insurance with my american bulldogs.  I also have a long line on AKC paperwork on their parents incase i ever have to prove they are Bulldogs. They are in no relation to the pitbull.  Before that we had a Catahoula, that we had to prove was not a pitbull for insurance reasons.  Pitbulls are not legal to have in the tri-county area of Southern Florida, and when they made that "reward" type program.  Report a pit bull and get $50 or something like that, they became to much of a hassle to own.

that really sucks that its illegal to own a certain kind of dog. some dogs are like kids to the people that own them. good luck finding a house.

I have a Samoyed part Chow and my Dad's home owners insurance almost got cancelled due to the dog. He had to fill out thier paper work about the dog. Then he called them back and said the breed of my dog is a mutt. To this day he still has the same insurance company!!!
