Title: ATV safty course??? Post by: Chillinthemost on March 21, 2007, 07:29:31 PM Would my children need this ATV safety course if they were riding 2 wheelers?
Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Post by: qt314nfla on March 21, 2007, 07:53:33 PM Good question. I like your thinking.
Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Post by: GrizzlyBear on March 21, 2007, 07:59:46 PM Not in the law. So, unless some state rep who has nothing better to do with his time, it is not required now.
Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Post by: qt314nfla on March 21, 2007, 08:05:47 PM Looks like chillin's kids my be taking up dirt bikes. Those of you that have the little ones for sale on here wake up. If every one catches this there will be all kinds of ppl buying dirt bikes.
Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Post by: Chillinthemost on March 21, 2007, 08:07:26 PM Doesn't that figure. Maybe the Watsons will become a 2 wheeler family. That would sure give me a LOT more room in the trailer.
Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Post by: Ryukyu13 on March 21, 2007, 08:12:32 PM So dirt bikes are supposed to be safer than ATV's? ???
Make a whole lot of sense to me ::) Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Post by: Chillinthemost on March 21, 2007, 08:27:30 PM ATV riders just have a bad rep. Go to ANY ATV (mudding)event or ride spot and see the little kids on huge utilities with no safety gear, riding all over while their proud (drunk) parents look on. Or watch the teenage boys with their ball caps on backwards, no shirts, no respect, doing donuts right beside someones $40k truck or drag racing up and down the pavement.
I dont know why it is this way, it just is. ATVs have a stigma, the general puplic hates them. It is all about repect and common sense, of which most ATV riders have little of. Its NOT the 5000 members on this site, its the other 100,000 in this state. When you see someone at your ride spot being stupid, speak up and run them off. Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Post by: Prairie Master on March 22, 2007, 10:32:57 PM From the law I found this:
(5) "OHM" or "off-highway motorcycle" means any motor vehicle used off the roads or highways of this state that has a seat or saddle for the use of the rider and is designed to travel with not more than two wheels in contact with the ground, but excludes a tractor or a moped. (6) "Off-highway vehicle" means any ATV, two-rider ATV, or OHM that is used off the roads or highways of this state and that is not registered and licensed for highway use under chapter 320. (3) Effective July 1, 2008, while operating an off-highway vehicle, a person who has not attained 16 years of age must have in his or her possession a certificate evidencing the satisfactory completion of an approved off-highway vehicle safety course in this state or another jurisdiction. A nonresident who has not attained 16 years of age and who is in this state temporarily for a period not to exceed 30 days is exempt from this subsection. Nothing contained in this chapter shall prohibit an agency from requiring additional safety-education courses for all operators. So if you read the law the OHV includes the OHM so yes 2 wheel buddies also need to go through the course http://www.flsenate.gov/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=Ch0261/ch0261.htm Title: Re: ATV safty course??? Thank you for clarifying the law. Does anyone want to take the required training and conduct monthly safety courses for motorcycles? We will sponsor them, and provide the facility to conduct the training. |
