Title: Motor swaps...
Post by: MadMudder on January 21, 2007, 11:23:19 PM
Hey guys, I have an 01 Suzuki Quadrunner 250 and I kinda want something new but the money isnt there for one I want. Mine has IRS, low range, and all of the stuff that you only find on full size quads today. I was wondering if it was possible to swap a different motor into mine. There is a ton of room in the engine bay for a bigger motor. Would buying a motor and putting it in even be worth the money? Also the bigger version of mine is the old king quad 300. My body and all that is exaticly the same. Just a smaller motor. Woud it be possible to add the 4x4 parts because its already set up for it? Any info would be great. Thanks....

I don't see why you couldnt get totalled 300 4x4 and use it for parts.

I think one of the older 500 engines will work. Also the arctic cat 300s like 03 and before is also the same engine.

Hey would a Lift kit for a 04-05 Yamaha Kodiak with IRS fit my bike. I think most IRS lifts are essentialy the same? Could we make this lift work?

I thought about that but the only problem is that nobody really sells these bikes. There isnt many to begin with and most people hold on to them. That would be a good idea though.

Anything can be done. the only problem,is the final drive on these bikes is part of the engine. I don't know if the mounting tabs for a front diff and all associated parts are there. Not to mention the diff lock cable and the four wheel drive cable. You're best bet would be to just look for a old king quad that runs and go from there,or just keep saving money to buy what you want. if it is anything like a honda recon, id leave it just like it is. i can take ours through anything and farther than our 4x4 rancher and both of em are stock (even tires). its faster than the rancher too. i love them little quads. i dont think it'd be worth the time and money to swap it out. the money you'd spend could be put towards a new one. id say sell yours when you have some $ to go along and get a bigger one.

p.s. get a honda  ;)

Honestly I'd say it's not even worth it. I'd say do some research on the differences in the 250 and 300, you may find that the top end of the 250 and 300 are interchangeable and you could just change out top ends or even get a stroker kit for it. Either way it's not going to be a speed demon but the old Suzuki King Quads have extremely low gears in them and they can turn any tire out there.
