Title: Wildlaw
Post by: lisa on December 19, 2006, 05:09:42 PM
  Southeast Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (SEPARC) has had someone from Wildlaw to speak at their Spatial Ecology and Protected Lands Session (SPEPLS). Don't be fooled folks, they are getting ready to play even harder than they have in the past....

  Now, I love reptiles, I own two ball pythons; however I understand how radical some people get about wanting to save a frog....or a snake...or an insect...or a plant....

  Here is a quote from them, from Wildlaw...take heed, it doesn't mean just developers, it means everyone;

 "Ray Vaughn from Wildlaw gave a bang-up talk (sans powerpoint) about
taking a role and getting involved with the conservation process. Mostly Ray talked
about how it may seem impossible to make a difference with all the development that is
occurring, but he has learned how to make a difference (sue the crap out of these
corporations!). When you sue and actually start to win, you will be surprised to see how
many folks want to work with you and not against you. The most important portion of
the whole process is to get involved and make your presence known. If you want to be
invited to these policy deciding situations, you have to contact the right people and ask.
Ray’s take home message was, “don’t be afraid to get out there and kick some dirt.”

Questions: 1. How do we do it? You have got to ask the right questions and ask the right
people (Richard Pombo example). Get the media out there.
2. Where does the money come from? Donations, grants, and his own pocket.
3. Why do hunters get what they want? Because they show up and voice their interest."

  Now, what are ya'll going to do?
