Title: Gasoline
Post by: AmericanRobster on December 16, 2006, 07:51:01 AM
I have a stock Arctic Cat 500, and I use 93 octane gas in it, is that a good or bad idea?

I won't hurt anything. Your owners manual will recommend what octane.
The higher octane reduces the chance of pre-ignition and the fuel gets more filtering during refinement. That's what your your paying for. In air cooled motors I try to run midgrade due to the heat in FL.

I was told my honda utes would run better on high test, but I'm not sure I can tell the difference.

My riding lawn mower manual said, with the air cooled engine to use 87 octane only. The high test makes the engine run hotter.

hi test fuel burns slower and is not nessary unless you have eng mods or detionation all atvs are maDE to run on 87 unless racing eng wich are hi compression

Oh wow! Ive got an aircooled 250 and it always runs hot. The engine has allot of miles on it and I figured 93 would be best for it. Also we have an Polairs Sportsman 500 that is water cooled. Should we run 93 in it and 87 in the other.

i have a honda 400ex that is stock and i run 93 in it and i can even use 107 mixed with 93 makes it about 100 and it runs fine.  We even have this little Polaris Phoenix(200cc 4-stroke) running on 107 straight race fuel. Of course it shoots flames about 1 foot out of the exhaust no lie but it runs fine

unless you raise the compression you are wasting money buying anything other than 87, unless its required like on a 450

and race fuel on a stock bike is a big waste of money

I run straight 110 in my 400EX, but 93 pump gas in the Rubicon,,,,,Iv'e never run anything but 93 or above in any small engine I have had,,,,,I even run 110 in my lawn mower.

now that you have stopped laughing,,,I'll explain why.

I run 110 because when I leave my quad for 4 months without running,,,,I could pull apart the carb and with that fuel sitting in the bowl for four months,,,,viola! no caramel sticky stuff to clean out!

as far as a performance boost,,,,,I notice the difference big time on my 400, but that's a built motor,,,,I also notice a little difference on the lawn mower when I haven't mowed for a couple months during the summer ;-)

I'm afraid to put 110 in the rubicon because I'm scared it might blow up ;-)

I have ran 108(C-12) on my 4x4 that is all stock only because it was left over from my Shee. Its a waist of money.Unless your compression is over 155 you dont need anything over 93 pump gas.But if your at like 160 I would run some Av-gas mixed with 93 pump gas and you will be good.
