Title: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: kenz on December 10, 2006, 06:00:16 PM Hey all you utility and sport quad riders come out and be a part of the action at Quad Scramble #4 presented by the Sarasota Area Quad Riders. This will be the second QS held at the same property. This piece of land is awesome.
If you have never raced before come out and do it. Try it once and you'll be hooked. Every Quad Scramble so far this season has been a blast and this one will be no different. All the events are friendly, family oriented with alot of good racing so don't be afraid, you'll just be missing out on great time!! All that is required is a tethered kill switch and to become a member of the Florida Trail Riders. Seems all I need is $, a number plate, and a kill switch. I'd like to try it..... Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: kenz on December 12, 2006, 06:56:18 PM It will be the most fun per dollar spent that you will ever have.
You can make number plates cheap. A couple flat pieces of the correct colored plastic or painted sheet metal and some electrical or duct tape to make the numbers. You can get them made up too. I orderd mine from BRMOFFROAD.COM and they are pretty slick. The guy is fast too, I ordered them at 4pm and got an e-mail at 5 telling me he shipped them out already. You'll want to get your # from FTR first of course. Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: kenz on December 31, 2006, 06:16:57 PM We were out working the trail this weekend and it has really come together. This course offers a little bit of almost all the terrain that Florida could offer. If you have never done a Quad Scramble or any other kind of racing this is definitely the course to give it a try. You will have ball doing this race!! You seasoned woods racers will find there is plenty to keep the course challenging too.
There are sections of the course where spectators will be able to get a view of the action and I can assure you that those sections will offer some good excitement. If you come out don't forget a camera. Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: jujulo700R on December 31, 2006, 11:39:58 PM I am going for sure. If it wasn't for my family and day job, I would be camping out there right now! ;D
Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4-- now with pics Post by: kenz on January 18, 2007, 07:56:46 PM Quad Scramble #4 is just over a week away!! For anybody who has ever had thoughts about giving a shot to racing this is the course for you to give it a try. This course was set by a qaud club and is geared to the type of trails most quad people like. This course is also very spectator friendly and will have plenty of places for friends and family to catch you in action. They'll be able to get photos so don't forget your cameras!!!!!!
We really look forward to seeing some new faces and seasoned racers out there!! There are directions on the flyer, but if you need more details, just post and I'll get them up here for you. There will be markers on the roads that lead to the parking area. Look for the FTR signs and orange FTR trail markers. As I mentioned at the start of this post this race is going to be a blast!! Here is a preview to what is waiting for you. I can't take credit for the pics another member of our club took them. http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Thecreekjump.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Thecreekjumpreversed.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Alternatebridgetocreekjump.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/creekjumpandbridge.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Entrancetothechicane.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Entrancetothechicanereversed.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/IdareyoutotryandhitTHESEposts.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Interesting.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/notexactlya-gofast-section.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Newwatercrossing.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/newwatercrossingreversed.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Watercrossing.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Samewatercrossingdifferentangle.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/Hmmmn.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/yetanotherwatercrossing.jpg http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d117/ftrracer8/IthinkIvebeenonarollercoasterthatlo.jpg Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: lawn_man mx on January 18, 2007, 08:05:49 PM it looks like its going to be a great time ! can't wait can somebody help me out with directions from wpb thanks......

Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: mikeE36 on January 18, 2007, 08:18:25 PM Wow I live right by this spot and have never been to it. How big is this area?
I've never raced before. I ride a 250ex, would it be alright out there? Is it all racing or can you trail ride too? My friend has a bike and I have a quad could we ride at the same time or do quads and bikes go out at different times. Who owns this land by the way? Is there any fees to go out there? Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: kenz on January 18, 2007, 08:24:38 PM Its 640 acres. The track encompasses about 180 acres.
If you have never raced FTR you'll need to become a member and pay the race fee. FTR membership is $50 and race entry is $50. FTR is a yearly fee. Your 250ex will do fine. This type of racing isn't all about speed. There is alot of rider skill that is involved. This event isn't for dirt bikes. FTR does offer the Hare Scramble series for them. There isn't any trail riding we have permission from the land owner to use it for the race. There is a chance to do a practice lap. The race last for 2 hours. You make as many laps as you can in that time. Believe me you will get plenty of riding. The only technical requirements for the quad is a tether type kill switch and your exhaust should be under the 97.5DB limit. If it isn't you won't be turned away, but for future races you'll be required to comply. The course is is only open to the class that is racing at that time. The race time for beginners is 2hrs. You make as many laps as you can in the 2 hours. There isn't alot of waiting around. By the time sign up takes place and you get your gear on, it's time for practice- you might get 2 laps in. Practice isn't for all out speed- its a chance to see what's up. The day goes fast, watching the other classes, hanging out, grabbing something to eat, giving your quad the once and twice over; before you know it, it's your time to race. Then the real fun begins. ;D There will be some good food there. The land owners church group will be doing the cooking again; breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some good stuff!! Chillin was practicing yesterday at our stealth 1.2 mile practice track in the super duper secret quad compound for two hours steady! He is flying. I even hit him with sticks and mud while he was riding and never threw him off.
Next time I'm going to sling spider monkeys at him. Even if you are just coming out to watch.
Once again here is the flyer for the race. http://www.floridatrailriders.org/flyer/SAQR_012707.pdf The entrance will actually be on Clay Gully Road. Here is a little bit better description on how to get there if you haven't been to the past races at this location. If you are coming from I-75 and getting off on SR-70, take 70 into Myakka City. There is a BP gas station in Myakka. SugarBowl Road is about 3 miles east of the BP. Turn right onto SugarBowl and you'll go about another 3 miles to Clay Gully Road. Turn right onto Clay Gully and the entrance will be a few 100 yards on the right. For ya'll coming from the east and from the south, I don't know of any landmarks to look for. I haven't come from that direction before. I know that you can also get onto SugarBowl from SR-72. Be on the lookout for the signs with orange FTR trail markers. They will be at the intersections where you need turn and point you in the direction you need to go. Again looking forward to seeing everybody there!! Is it time to leave yet...wait did I just hear the horn blow??? :o LoL... Hope to see everyone there...be sure and introduce yourself :):) ;) PS...The strawberry shortcake is the best I have ever heard the cake is homemade as well :P I keep hearing, "10 seconds!!", over and over in my head :P ;D Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: gearhead400 on January 25, 2007, 10:43:05 PM Now i WANT to race, because if chino is going, at least i know i wont be last!!! lol, just messin with ya man, good luck!! hope everyone kicks ass in their class.

It runs if I throttle it slow, but if I try to punch it, it stalls. My buddy Drew got 4th, and I was in front of him before I broke down.Dammizzitt!! But if anyone likes fast trail riding, I would definately recommend this.It was awsome to see everyone come out!!Got to meet the Big Scrub brothers...wazzup guys!! Title: Re: Come out to Myakka City for Quad Scramble #4 Post by: digginfool on January 27, 2007, 08:16:48 PM Check your float settings and your needle valve. I had a similar problem with my son's quad and it turned out to be a sticky needle valve. Every time you gave it full throttle, it would rev up, then cough, sputter and die. I checked the float height and cleaned the needle valve and no more problems.
